Hello! I'm Sara, 27 and embarking on a year of travel to connect with curious, expansive souls, contribute to intentional communities, learn new skills, and get my hands dirty. Things that bring me joy include dancing, live music, breathwork, reading, writing, deep talks, cooking and sharing meals, and growing and harvesting food. I love to spend time with people but also enjoy having quiet solo contemplation and exploration time.

I worked in sustainability (policy) for several years, and now am excited to explore more 'real world' sustainable living (permaculture, organic farming, bioconstruction, food preservation etc) more deeply. I am also interested in holistic health and non-western medicine and I would love to discuss and learn more about related topics (herbal medicine, breathwork, acupuncture, nutrition, meditation).

I am a writer as well, and I hope to do lots of writing on the road and connect with other writers and creative folks!

Most of all, I am excited to make deep human connections and contribute to conscious communities living with nature.

I have lots of gardening experience, as my parents have a farm and gigantic garden that I grew up helping out on, and I try to cultivate a small garden wherever I live. I also lived in a rural community in Paraguay for 7 months and practiced compost-making, agriculture, teaching (environmental education in Spanish), and minor construction projects. I have experience taking care of chickens and horses as well, and I love to cook.

I speak Spanish well and am excited to practice!

Most importantly I have a can-do attitude and am down to get my hands dirty and learn new skills :)

Wow!!! Después de casi 2 meses en la granja me siento como tengo un segundo hogar. Nunca quería salir! La vision y proyecto que tienen Cris y Aleja es tan inspirador, y fue un placer contribuir a ello. Ellos dos son personas tan especiales y amables y me siento muy agradecida de llamarlos amigos. La granja es un paraiso y el alojamiento… read more es muy cómodo siempre y cuando te guste estar en estructuras al aire libre. Trabajaba en una variadad de proyectos mientras estaba en la granja - la bioconstruccion, plantando y cuidadando las plantas, limpiando la huerta, y otras tareas variadas. Se trabaja por 3-4 horas por la manana y tienes el resto del tiempo libre, entonces el intercambio me parecia muy justo. Tambien enseñaba yoga por las mananas en la plataforma de yoga impresionante que da al valle. Si le hace preguntas, puedes aprender mucho de Cris sobre la permacultura, la histora de Colombia, y basicamente cualquier otra cosa que quieras porque es probable que el sabrá algo de ella y tendrá una opinion :) La comida que hace Aleja es DELICIOSA y abundante y fue increible cosechar directamente de la huerta para la cena. Y el bebe Evan es tan lindo <3

Esto fue mi primer workaway y no pudiera imginar algo mejor. Ahora tengo amigos para la vida de la Granja, y estoy planificando regresear y trabajar con Cris y Aleja en varios proyectos comunitarios mas tarde en mi viaje. No veo la hora!

Le recomiendo este workaway a todo quien quiera vivir con la naturaleza, ensuciarse las manos (y alguien a quien no le importe trabajar con popo de caballo!) vivir en comunidad, y conectarse con una familia Colombiana. Muchas gracias Cris y Aleja - un abrazo muy grande, nos vemos pronto!!

Wow!! After nearly 2 months at the farm I feel like I have a second home. I found that I just never wanted to leave! Cris and Aleja's vision and project that they are bringing to life is inspiring and it was such a pleasure to contribute to it. They are both such special, kind people that I feel lucky to call friends. The farm is a paradise and the accommodation is comfortable as long as you like being in open air structures! I worked on a variety of projects while I was on the granja - bioconstruction, planting and taking care of plants, weeding, and other miscellaneous tasks. You work for 3-4 hours in the morning and then have free time the rest of the day, so the exchange is very reasonable. I also taught yoga in the mornings on the gorgeous yoga platform overlooking the valley! If you ask questions, you can learn tons from Cris about permaculture, Colombian history, and basically anything you want to as he will probably have some knowledge and an opinion about it ;) Aleja's cooking is absolutely delicious (and plentiful!) and it was amazing to harvest directly from the garden for dinner. And little baby Evan is adorable <3

This was my first workaway and I couldn't have imagined anything better. Now I have friends for life from the Granja, and I am planning to come back to work with Cris and Aleja on various community projects on the mountain later on in my travels. I can't wait!

My recommendation for volunteers is to come with at least some level of Spanish. It's so special to be able to share with Cris and Aleja and to practice Spanish amongst the volunteers, and it would have been a much different experience for me had I not had a high level of Spanish. That said, they are very patient with those who don't speak Spanish and you can still connect on some level. Overall, I highly highly recommend this workaway to anyone who wants to live with nature, get their hands dirty (and doesn't mind handling horse poop), live in community and connect with a Colombian family.
