Hallo, ich bin der Oliver! Ich bin 27 Jahre alt und komme aus den Vereinigten Staaten (aus Maine um genauer zu sein). Ich habe früher mal als Austauschschüler in Deutschland gelebt. Von der Erfahrung in Deutschland habe ich eine Leidenschaft für Deutsch und die Kultur in Europa entwickelt. Ich habe 2019/2020 Workaway in Österreich und den USA gemacht und dann nochmal 2023 in Deutschland, Italien und Österreich. Ich habe ein bisschen von allem gemacht (Au Pair, Landwirtschaft, Koch, Gartenarbeit), was mich total freute! Ich habe jetzt bei meiner dritten Europareise vor, sowas nochmal zu machen, dies mal aber bei neunen Gastgebern. Bitte schreib mir, wenn ihr denkt, dass ich mit euch klarkommen würde!

Ich interessiere mich für die deutsche Sprache und die europäische Kultur. Ich mache Workaway für ein Paar Gründe. Als Erstes möchte ich neue Leute auf der Welt kennenlernen und Freundschaften schliessen. Zum Zweiten möchte ich ein Abenteuer mit neuen Lebenserfahrungen im Ausland machen. Zum Dritten möchte ich mein Deutsch verbessern, weil ich eines Tages in dem deutschsprachigen Raum leben möchte. Ich habe Erfahrung mit Landwirtschaft, Gartenarbeit, Basteln, Zimmerhandwerk, Computer/Technik. Ich würde mich als freundlich, neugierig, hilfsbereit und entspannt beschreiben. Ich bin körperlich gesund und arbeite gern. Ich bin gern sportlich unterwegs, sei es Laufen, Radfahren, Schwimmen, Wandern, Yoga, oder Skifahren. Außer Sport interessiere ich mich für Lesen, Tanzen, Kochen, Autos, Filme, und gute Unterhaltung. Es würde mich freuen, neue Leute kennenzulernen!

Hello, Folks! My name is Oliver and I'm hoping to use Workaway as a platform to explore the world, meet new people, learn new skills, discover different cultures and beliefs, and to challenge myself! So far I've had an amazing experience with it. I travelled around Austria in 2019 and fulfilled many of the above mentioned goals of mine.

I'm a very helpful, curious, adaptive and honest person. I cherish building healthy relationships, being open and vulnerable with others, and helping other people! . I have experience with yard work, farming, childcare, serving (was once a waiter) and carpentry. I'm looking forward to adding skills to my tool belt as well! Ich habe 9 schöne, abenteuerliche Tage bei Evelyn, Hubi und Co. im Ridnauntal verbracht. Ich wollte seit Langem Südtirol besuchen und dank dieser Familie ist mein Traum in Erfüllung gegangen, also danke euch! Während meines Aufenthalts habe ich hauptsächlich dem Hubi draußen bei seiner Arbeit geholfen: Heu machen, Zäune abbauen und einen … read more neuen aufrichten, die Schafe und die Pferde auf die Alm bringen, die Scheune aufräumen usw. Es macht viel Spaß mit dem Hubi zu arbeiten. Er ist sowohl ruhig und geduldig, als auch gesellig und EXTREM fleißig, also Hut ab Hubi! Er hat mir viele Aufgaben beigebracht, die ich vorher nie gemacht habe und das habe ich sehr geschätzt. Ich habe sicherlich sehr viel über die Landwirtschaft und das Leben als Bauer von dem Hubi gelernt, was ich toll fand.

Die Evelyn hat immer tolles Essen gekocht und sich mit mir am Tisch unterhalten, was immer eine Freude war! Von ihr durfte ich einiges über die Geschichte und die Kultur Südtirols lernen, was mir sehr gefallen hat, denn ich liebe solche Themen! Sie hat mein Lieblingsgericht, Käsespätzle, gemacht, was mir total geschmeckt hat, danke vielmals :)!

In meiner Freizeit habe ich das schöne Ridnauntal zu Fuß oder mit dem Rad erkundet, bin gewandert oder spazieren gegangen, und habe Bozen und Meran besucht. Obwohl das Dorf sehr klein ist, kann man mit dem Bus und dem Zug ganz Südtirol sehr billig entdecken! Die Gegend ist super schön und ich würde sie jedem empfehlen, der gerne an einem ruhigen und malerischen Ort ist!

Also, wer gern draußen arbeitet und nah zur Natur sein möchte, der sollte sich mal bei Evelyn melden!

I spent 9 beautiful, adventurous days with Evelyn, Hubi and Co. in the Ridnaun Valley. I have wanted to visit South Tyrol for a long time and thanks to this family my dream has come true, so thank you! During my stay I mainly helped Hubi with his work outside: cutting and collecting hay, dismantling fences and building a new one, taking the sheep and horses up to the pasture, cleaning up the barn, etc. Working with Hubi is a lot of fun. He is both calm and patient, as well as friendly and EXTREMELY hardworking, hats off to you, Hubi! He taught me many tasks that I had never done before and I really appreciated that. I certainly learned a lot about agriculture and life as a farmer from Hubi, which I thought was great.

Evelyn always cooked great food and chatted with me at the table which was always a pleasure! I was able to learn a lot from her about the history and culture of South Tyrol, which I really enjoyed, because I love such topics! She made my favorite dish, Käsespätzle, which I absolutely loved, thank you very much :)!

In my free time, I explored the beautiful Ridnaun Valley on foot or by bike, went hiking or walking, and visited Bozen and Meran. Although the village is very small, you can discover all of South Tyrol very cheaply by bus and train! The area is super beautiful and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to be somewhere quiet and picturesque!

If you like working outside and want to be close to nature, you should contact Evelyn!

What an experience of a lifetime!

I arrived at the hostel and museum with little to no idea of what to expect from it all. What was to come would be one of the best times of my life!

Within the first couple of hours I knew I had been blessed with being able to volunteer here. With amazing co-volunteers, an all-star board of directors, a … read more spectacular General Manager, and interesting and unique guests, (shout out to Rachel, Ruby, Kate, the whole entire board and James) I've met some of the most caring and funniest people. I can only give this gem of a hostel and museum a Herculean recommendation!

WORK
As a volunteer the main tasks include: general cleaning (sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, washing dishes, cleaning dorms and bathrooms), preparing dorms for new guests (making the beds, doing the laundry), manning the front desk (using the intuitive programs to check guests in, answering phone calls, and providing customer service to guests), and by simply being a friendly, generous, and helpful person! The tasks are all useful skills that people can add to their tool belt or sharpen up during their stay here. The work is really quite manageable, thus giving volunteers amble opportunities to immerse themselves in Little Rock!

LITTLE ROCK
I'm big on Little Rock (amazing slogan on banners throughout the city)! Little Rock is a city with a cozy, tight-knit feel. Being around 200,000 residents you never have to deal with huge traffic issues, and due to the superb location of the hostel, the downtown area is just a 15 minute walk away. There is a bus system to get around to the other parts of the city. With numerous restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and parks, Little Rock is always open for you to explore! Using the city's online event calendar, I was able to find great events every week! No matter your age, gender, background, or interests, there is something for everyone here! The museums in Little Rock are the bee's knees!

FINAL WORDS
If you choose to volunteer here you'll most likely walk away with new skills, great memories, and lifelong friendships! Make sure to really dedicate yourself to being the best person you can be whilst volunteering. The better the volunteers are, the more likely the hostel will continue to thrive in the future! The board of directors and General Manager work tirelessly to ensure that this excellent resource remains an integral part of the MacAuther Park and Little Rock at large, therefore the volunteers should do the same!

Hat man viel Freiheit. Es gibt wenig "Regelung", sondern man hat die Möglichkeit, seine eigene Aufgaben zu unternehmen. Wenn man keine Ahnung hat, was man machen kann, kann man auch die anderen fragen, was gemacht werden könnte. Ich habe hauptsächlich geputzt, Geschirr abgespült, Laub geharkt und gekocht.
Das Essen war immer sehr lecker und gesund, und es gibt immer genug zu essen. Das Food Sharing Modell von der Gemeinschaft finde ich hervorragend! Die Gemeinschaft bekommt Lebensmittel, die man sonst weggeworfen würde. Das Modell ist sehr umweltfreundlich!
Das Zusammenleben von Leuten in unterschiedlichen Alter und mit unterschiedlichen Hintergründen ist spitze! Ich habe wirklich viele unterschiedliche Leute kennengelernt.
Die Gegend ist sehr schön!
Ich werde die Gemeinschaft vermissen und wünsche Euch alles Gute! Jeder Workawayer würde eine tolle Erfahrung haben, und ich kann die Gemeinschaft hundertprozentig empfehlen!

I had a very nice time! I was in the community for almost three weeks. I lived alone in a room with a bathroom, I liked that! I always had the opportunity to have alone time when I wanted it.
The residents and the other volunteers are all really friendly, down to earth people! It was an honor to be part of the community! I got to know a lot of great people!
One has a lot of freedom. There is little "regulation", therefore one has the opportunity to do your own work. If you have no idea what you can do, you can ask the others what can be done. I mainly cleaned, washed dishes, raked leaves and cooked.
The food was always delicious and healthy, and there is always enough to eat. I think the community food sharing model is excellent! The community gets food that would otherwise be thrown away. The model is very environmentally friendly!
The coexistence of people of different ages and with different backgrounds is great! I really got to know a lot of different people.
The area is very beautiful!
I will miss the community and wish you all the best! Any workawayer would have a great experience, and I can highly recommend the community!

When I noticed … read more that, I stayed with them for almost 5 weeks. Astrid and Florian are real, friendly, understandable and relaxed people you can rely on one hundred percent! They have always served me great food, have taken me to friends and events and have always given me free time if I wanted it.

In terms of work, I (with the help of Caleb, Astrid and Florian) dismantled furniture, built a new gate for the fence, sawed wood, demolished walls and floors, painted walls, built raised beds, planted shrubs, and raked. I always enjoyed the work, and always had the opportunity to take a break or do another job. You have a lot of independence at work.

The accommodation with them is great! You live in a separate apartment with its own kitchen and private bathroom. This gives you the opportunity to have privacy if you want to have it.

The area is beautiful! You can walk or hike very well in the woods. In the center of Mürzzuschlag there are many shops and restaurants. By train you can explore the area very well.

Overall, with Astrid and Florian you have the chance to meet great people, do interesting work, taste great food and discover the beautiful area. I would definitely recommend Astrid and Florian! With them you are at home!

Deutsch: Astrid und Florian haben mich gerettet! Als ich dringend einen neuen Gastgeber finden musste, habe ich das Glück gehabt, von Astrid und Florian aufgenommen zu werden! Sie sind die besten Gastgeber, die man haben kann! Sie haben sich um den Caleb (anderen Workawayer) und mich unglaublich gut gekümmert. Bei Astrid und Florian wird man als Teil der Familie behandelt, das habe ich sehr geschätzt! Als ich das bemerkt habe, bin ich dementsprechend fast 5 Wochen bei ihnen geblieben. Astrid und Florian sind echte, freundliche, verständliche und entspannte Leute, auf die man sich einhundert prozentig verlassen kann! Die haben mir immer tolles Essen serviert, haben mich zu Freuden und Veranstaltungen mitgenommen und haben mir immer Freizeit gegeben, wenn ich sie haben wollte.

In Bezug auf die Arbeit habe ich (auch mit der Hilfe von Caleb, Astrid und Florian) Möbel abgebaut, ein neues Tor für den Zaun gebaut, Holz gesägt, Wände und Böden abgerissen, Wände gestrichen, Hochbetten gebaut, Sträucher eingesetzt, und geharkt. Die Arbeit hat mir immer gefallen, und mir wurde immer die Möglichkeit gegeben, eine Pause zu machen, oder eine andere Aufgabe zu machen. Bei Astrid und Florian hat man bei der Arbeit viel Unabhängigkeit.

Die Unterkunft bei ihnen ist spitze! Man wohnt in einer getrennten Wohnung mit eigener Küche und eigenem Bad. Dadurch hat man die Möglichkeit, eine Privatsphäre zu haben, wenn man sie haben will.

Die Gegend ist wunderschön! Man kann sehr gut im Wald laufen oder wandern. Im Zentrum von Mürzzuschlag gibt es viele Läden und Restaurant. Mit dem Zug kann man die Gegend sehr gut erkunden.

Insgesamt hat man bei Astrid und Florian die Chance, tolle Leute kennenlernen zu dürfen, interessante Arbeit zu machen, tolles Essen zu kosten und die schöne Gegend zu entdecken. Ich würde Astrid und Florian auf jeden Fall empfehlen! Bei ihnen ist man Zuhause!

Oliver kam direkt aus Boston zu mir. Ich bewundere diesen Mut, sich erstens zur Orientierung eine Auszeit zu nehmen und weiters seinen Horizont zu erweitern und sich dadurch besser kennen zu lernen.
