Hi!

My name is Ellen and I have recently graduated from the science program in upper secondary school here in Sweden. Before returning to school and beginning my university studies, I would love to experience Europe and learn new things, and Workaway seemed like the perfect way to do it! As a young student, I don't have much experience but my ambitions are high and I really want to experience as much as possible! With workaway, I want to broaden my horizons, meet new people, learn new things and hopefully be able to help in places in need of my skills!

I would describe myself as a happy and positive person with a great calmness. My interests include reading, walking, music, dancing, sports, cooking, baking and nature. I simply like to be active and social. Being organized, productive and well-structured comes naturally to me - I love to be helpful, and am always willing to step up when needed.

I am currently working in Italy at a my first workaway experience. I clean apartments, help around the house, clean the pool, walks the dog, cut grass and much more! Simply, giving a hand whenever and wherever it's needed.

During the last year I have been working as a work leader for teenagers (age 16-18) whose main job is to tidy our city. Their job is to collect rubbish, cut trees and weeding and mine is that plus to plan and distribute the work and support them. I loved the job and my role as a leader. I get to organize and make everything efficient, which is really important to me. Supporting and helping the teens are also a big part of the job and I would like to think that I have developed my connecting and communications skills.

I am a person who loves efficiency and can adapt to situations very well. I have no trouble finding my place in a new context and will work independently. That is one of my greatest strengths - that I am both a team worker and an independent worker.

I love to read, spend time in nature and listen to music. I love to find new places to visit and discover. I love my own company as well as other's. In other words, I will always find ways to entertain myself. With two older sisters and relatives, social events are important to me. I love to chat, play games and go on adventures with the people around me.

I spent just over two months with Jo and Tony had the best experience possible! I arrived at the end of summer so my job was mainly cleaning the apartments, fixing the pool area, water plants and walking the lovely dog Jack! A few days into my visit I had a bike accident and ended up a night at the emergency room, but it was just some scratches.… read more But the support during, with Jo as a translator at the hospital, and after made everything feel alright. Jo and Tony were so thoughtful and kind which made the accident feel like nothing.

When the weather changed into autumn, so did my jobs. First of all I got a roommate, the lovely Zuza. Together we could do a lot of other jobs. We got to help with the olive harvest, which I loved! We did a lot of furniture taking apart, moving and assembling. We moved wood, fixed olive trees, cleared out rooms, planted trees, cut grass, and built shelves. And a lot more! We got to do a lot of different things which I really appreciate. And Tony and Jo really saw our potential and trusted us.

The daily life is absolutely wonderful! We usually work from around 8 am to 2 pm. Always with a tea break and lunch. Tony is a brilliant chef and I enjoyed every single meal! We got to eat both traditional Italian and English, and every other cuisine. And most days he had prepared something for us for the evening, which made me feel so spoiled! I had an entire flat for myself (until Zuza joined;)) with a TV, fully equipped kitchen and a brilliant view!!! When the weather was still nice, the pool was absolutely amazing.

I really enjoyed the surroundings with an amazing 360° view and lovely reads to walk on. The villages nearby, such as Castle Giorgio, Castle Viscardo and Torre Alfina all were so nice! Especially the gelato in Torre Alfina;) and a cappuccino in Viscardo. During my days off I went on a lot of discovering trips! Towns such as Siena, Perugia, Rome, Spoleto, Cortona, Civita di Bagnoregio are just some of the places I visited with just a train ride (less than 3h, often shorter). Perugia was definitely my favourite with lovely food and a great view!

My stay was a perfect workaway experience. It was my first ever but Jo and Tony took so good care of me that it felt like I've been with them forever. Jo is the nicest woman ever, so thoughtful and always looking out for us. The same with Tony who made me laugh and feel at home with buying swedish food for me. I learned so much and would recommend this to everybody who wants a nice time and meets the nicest people ever and to experience Italy's most lovely surroundings. I would come back anytime!
