Hi, I’m Claire, a 28-year-old French-Malagasy woman. 🌿

After the last few years spent living and working abroad, I feel like I’m entering a new chapter of my life. I’ve recently spent three years in Africa — one year in the Sahara and two years in Benin — where I worked as a primary school teacher.

Today, I’m looking for a different way of travelling and experiencing life: slowing down, reconnecting with myself, with nature and with other people, while contributing to something meaningful and allowing an experience to transform me.

I’m going through a bit of a difficult transition at the moment, and rather than trying to escape from it, I want to embrace it and use this time to reconnect with what really matters to me. I would love to share everyday life with people who are conscious of nature and of our place within it, who enjoy simple things, new experiences, curiosity and meaningful human connections.

I’ve always loved travelling in a way that allows me to meet people rather than simply visit places. I travelled quite a lot through Couchsurfing, and during my three years in Africa I regularly hosted travellers, sometimes for a few days and sometimes for much longer periods. In a way, I’ve always been creating little communities wherever I lived.

I also did Workaway several years ago, spending a few months between Italy and the Canary Islands, working in hostels and on a farm. They were some of my favourite travelling experiences because I loved being part of a place rather than just passing through.

Over the years, I’ve had quite varied experiences. I worked with an association in Chile in a vulnerable neighbourhood, helping children discover literature and making books more accessible to them. I also worked as a French teacher in Spain, and today I continue to teach French online to a few students.

I studied translation, pedagogy and philosophy, and I speak French, English, Spanish and Italian. I’m quite adaptable and used to working with different kinds of people and doing different kinds of tasks. I’m happy to get involved in practical work too — cooking, gardening, helping with children, animals, cleaning, building, organising things… I actually enjoy learning by doing.

I’ve always been very curious about people, cultures, art, history and the different ways human beings choose to live. I love exchanging skills, languages, stories, ideas and, of course, a few good jokes along the way. 😊

I also love being active and spending time outdoors. I’ve been surfing for the last couple of years, and the ocean has become something very important to me — it genuinely feels like medicine. I enjoy running, walking, exploring and simply being outside.

Being French-Malagasy has also shaped the way I see the world. I grew up between cultures, and I think it gave me a strong awareness of how differently people can live, while also reminding me how much we can learn from one another.

What I’m looking for now is not simply a place to stay. I’d like to contribute in my own way, leave a little trace behind me, learn from the people I meet and let myself be changed by the experience in return.

And because I’m still teaching French online, I do need a reasonably good internet connection for a few hours of lessons each week.

Before coming to a new host, I usually like to have a little video call first — simply to meet each other, make sure the place feels right for everyone and have a first connection before arriving. 📞
