My name is Chance :) I'm 25 and have lived all over the western US, as well as Taiwan and Turkey.
I have a simple passion to explore the world and experience cultures unlike my own. We all have something to learn from each other! I'm always looking to make friends and say yes, you never know where life will take you.

I try to consistently stay curious as I go through life, always willing to try new things and lead with an open heart.

My philosophy is that the experiences we have will always be the most valuable things in our lives. And when they are shared with others, they become especially precious :)

I studied anthropology in Taipei, Taiwan, and after completing my undergraduate degree in 2023, I returned home to the US to reground myself within my community and family. During this time, I switched my focus from academics to something more tangible by working in the environmental conservation world. This practical work has taught me much about leadership and scope when it comes to carrying out all sorts of projects as a team. I also have worked with high school students as a leader in an experiential service camp and really value non-traditional forms of education and youth development. I'm now hoping to bridge my love of travel and cultural exchange with the desire to develop and hone more practical skills through participating in Workaway!

I have much experience teaching English in both formal settings as well as informal language exchanges and creative language play with young children. I have attained a level of fluency in Mandarin Chinese after living in Taiwan for 4 years and receiving an undergraduate degree instructed entirely in the language. Both of these languages I feel comfortable teaching! I am also learning French currently and would love to improve my ability. Turkish I have an intermediate proficiency in and would jump at the opportunity to interact in it as well :)

Que habilidades tienes?

I am fluent in English (native) and Mandarin Chinese, and have worked as an English teacher/tutor in various ways for the past 5 years. My focus is always on practical ability of a language, especially speaking ability.

I also have much experience in environmental conservation and outdoor work! I am proficient with various hand and power tools, and have experience maintaining and building trails, habitat restoration through planting, digging, and a great deal of chainsaw work.

Current valid certifications:
WFA (Wilderness First Aid) training
Level A certificate in sawyering (tree felling using chainsaw)
Level A certificate in limbing and bucking (using chainsaw to cut and manage trees after falling)

After living outside of the US for much of my adult life, I am well skilled at cross-cultural communication and confident in my ability to handle the logistics of travel and daily life in new and unfamiliar environments. I am a quick learner and love to learn new skills!

I have also spent great deals of time camping and living entirely out of a tent or car, so I am no stranger to simple natural accommodation and don't shy away from discomfort.

I love to dance, and feel through natural movement patterns. House dance and music is especially dear to me, all about love and connection.

Trying to live life in ways that are as natural as possible while still experiencing the pleasures of life. Interested in simple living, barefoot lifestyle, rewilding, and a return to our basic necessities without our modern life clouding over us too heavily.

Otherwise I'm always up for a good film, book, or piece of music and love to discuss them too.
