Chris and I are 20 months into our 24 month andventure across Canada!


We’ve done a number of Workaways in this time across Canada in BC, Ontario and Alberta. We’ve intentionally chosen a variety of different workaways to get the most out of our trip and experience as much as possible!

We’re currently into our second season in Smithers, Northern BC at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort. Chris is the Lifee supervisor and I am ‘base one’ - lead radio dispatch coordinator. Our season is wrapping up in mid-April and Chris and I are planning our next steps. We have our own vehicle and we’re planning to head to Vancouver Island next!

Since we've arrived to Canada in July 2022, we've been privileged to stay with 5 incredible families on their homestead farms or assisting with their businesses.

In our time here we’ve done a lot of garden work including maintenance and tending to crops, but we also worked on an equine therapy farm in Abbotsford in the fall of 2023 where we were working very closely with a variety of animals - mainly horses but also miniature donkeys, sheep, kune kune pigs, chickens, cats and dogs. We were responsible for mucking stalls daily, feeding the animals, letting the horses in and out of their grazing field and their evening “tuck in”.

Between us we have done a lot of garden work, weeding, watering and tending to crops. tended to pigs, chickens, cleaned coops and ensured the animals are watered and fed. We have mixed together materials for natural buildings, levelled flooring, used heavy machinery such as log splitters and chainsaws to sort firewood, assisted on a log mill, made signs with pyrography, painted boats and living rooms, cleared large spaces of overgrowth and much more. We've been responsible for looking after pets as well as keeping the homes we stay in tidy. We've worked on a ski hill throughout the winter in Northern BC, worked on TV sets and worked on a lovely property in the Kootenays helping clear and FireSmart their land, as well as a whole bunch of other odd jobs.

We're two very hard working individuals who are extremely committed to tackling any tasks we're given. We both feel a huge sense of achievement at the end of each work day and we're happy to get our hands dirty and crack on.

We're a couple, originally from the UK and we're on a two year working holiday IEC visa in Canada from the 26th July 2022 with Canadian work permits. We're very open to opportunities and we're eager to meet new people. We love spending time outdoors but we've moved from a large city in northern England so it's quite a difference being in rural Canada. We're looking forward to spending as much time hiking and exploring as possible in the warmer months although have thoroughly enjoyed the winter season!

We're incredibly organised and reliable and throughout our careers have treated each of our jobs with a great deal of respect and pride. My previous work skills may not be as transferrable as I was giving legal and financial advice for a non-profit in the UK, however Christian is proficient in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) which was his career for 6 years prior to our move here. This may be beneficial if you have an online business.

We both have a keen interest in film and pop culture and we're eager to be introduced to new forms of art, film and music that we're yet to discover. We both love to cook (and eat!) and we like to try new foods. I am also a keen embroiderer and cross-stitcher, and I love to craft.
