Hi! :) We're Chiara and Stefano, a young couple from Italy (Rome), and we're searching for our next off-grid adventure!

Even though we live in a big and chaotic city, we're wildly passionate about mountains and a simple lifestyle. We both enjoy sport climbing, via ferratas, hiking and skiing. Chiara has recently taken up ski touring, while Stefano has started with alpinism... You could say we try to reconnect with nature as much as we can!

Since we started travelling together, we have always enjoyed connecting with the place and the people as much as possible. This means we avoid travelling by airplane and prefer to use the train or the car, to enjoy the road as well. We like to stay in the same place for a long time, especially if it is in the middle of the mountains (you don't say)...

We also love camping, especially if by a river, and just enjoying deep discussions immersed in silence. Together, we've been camping in Italy (Puglia and Abruzzo), Slovenia and the Spanish Pyrenees, and we try to visit the Dolomites as much as we can.

Our mountain philosophy is to reach the peak, but never forget to enjoy the view: to us, mountains are the place where we can clear our minds and truly reflect on everyday life - not only a peak to achieve no matter what. We try to reflect this philosophy in our life achievements.

Aside from being reflective, we're also very friendly and social people, as we have lived in and both work in international environments (Chiara is an international human rights lawyer working for an NGO and Stefano is a post-doc civil engineering researcher at university), and this means we deeply enjoy discovering new cultures, getting to know new people, and learning to adapt to new lifestyles. Also, as Italians, we enjoy having meals and laughing together.

We both have had several volunteering experiences and are deeply engaged in civil society organisations: Stefano has volunteered to give food to homeless people in Rome for several years, whereas Chiara volunteers in prison in Rome and works with refugees. For this reason, we like the sense of community and have always been great helpers and supportive people.

Considering our passion for the mountains, we would love to have our first experience as Workawayers in a mountain region: we were aiming for the Alps (Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany) to be able to use the car or the train, but we're open to any mountain destination. We would love to get to know other young couples or families and their stories.

We're both able to teach Italian, and have fluent conversations in English. Chiara would love to practice her Spanish and learn to have conversations in French.

Que habilidades tienes?

Chiara is an international human rights lawyer and Stefano is a post-doc civil engineering researcher at university. We both love solving complex problems and taking on new challenges, especially if it means learning new practical skills!

We are both very sporty and physically fit, so we are ready to engage with physical work. Thanks to our mountain trips and outdoor lifestyle, we are used to walking, hiking, camping and adapting to simple conditions. Chiara had a dog, and we both like animals very much. During our mountain travels, we have often met many kinds of farm animals, and we would love to learn how to care for them in practice.

Italian is our native language, we both speak fluent English, Chiara speaks good Spanish and is currently learning French. We would be happy to help others practise Italian or English.

Chiara has worked for several years in restaurants, where she learnt how to deal with things in a very practical way, and stay organised. Through her work and volunteering, she has also developed strong communication skills, intercultural sensitivity, and experience working with people from different backgrounds.

Stefano has volunteered for several years with homeless people and has several years of experience as a teacher. He is great with children and has had several work experiences with them. Thanks to his engineering and research background, he is also good at logical thinking and approaching practical tasks with patience and curiosity.

Although we are beginners, we both love gardening and plants more generally. We would love to know more and learn how to treat them well. We love cooking simple food and trying new recipes with fresh vegetables, and we would be really keen to learn how to manage a vegetable garden. We would also love to learn how to work with wood and help with maintenance or repair jobs.

We do not yet have extensive practical experience in farming, building or animal care, but we are fast learners, curious, physically active, and very happy to get involved in new tasks with enthusiasm and care.

Stefano enjoys novels and books that offer food for thought. Chiara is very much into novels and books that provide a historical perspective on current events.
