Aloha, I'm Joy.

I’m currently doing a working-holiday year in Japan, seeking nature-based places that value autonomy, clear communication and nourishment of body, mind and soul.

My work is rooted in banking and years of managing high-tier Airbnbs. I've volunteered with families, farms and guesthouses in different countries, trained Qigong, am a certified yoga teacher and published author and enjoy being the calm, reliable force in the background that ensures things flow.

Whether it’s high-standard room turnovers, guest relations, or organizing community projects, I don't need to be supervised or entertained, because I’m here to lighten your load.
I enjoy the physical work of landscaping, DIY tasks and am at home holding a shovel or a paintbrush.

I do best with a peaceful home base with authentic connections where mutual respect is the baseline. In exchange I bring presence, respect for you and your home, and a genuine wish to contribute. I love learning how things are done locally and I'm especially curious about Japanese language and everyday culture, not just sightseeing.

• Hospitality & house care
I’ve helped manage and improve several guest spaces, including a guesthouse in France and different Airbnb properties. I’m used to preparing rooms for guests, changing beds, cleaning bathrooms, noticing details and keeping spaces welcoming. I’m happy doing quiet background work like laundry, dishes and general house care.

• Gardening, animals & outdoor work
I grew up around gardens and animals, and I feel very comfortable with basic farm and outdoor tasks – weeding, watering, planting, mowing, shovelling, carrying things, helping with small repairs. I enjoy caring for animals (especially dogs, cats and chickens) and keeping their spaces clean.

• Cooking, baking & events
I like cooking simple, healthy meals and baking treats, especially for small groups or families. In the past I’ve helped cook and serve food for larger community events and celebrations, so I’m used to working in a busy kitchen and cleaning up afterwards.

• Organising, projects & kids
I have experience organising community projects, kids’ activities and small events, making sure things flow and everyone knows what’s happening. I get along well with children and have helped run summer camps and church programmes with games, crafts and outdoor time.

• DIY & practical help
Over the years I’ve helped with many basic DIY tasks: sanding and painting, assembling furniture, simple woodwork, moving and rearranging spaces, and general “we need an extra pair of hands” jobs. I like learning how to use new tools safely.

• Languages, writing & teaching
I’m fluent in German and English and currently studying Japanese (beginner level but motivated). I’m a published author and can help with writing or editing English content for websites, information sheets or signs. I’m also a certified yoga teacher, trained in Qigong, and happy to share gentle movement or stretching sessions if it fits your place.
