Descripción
Hi lovely hosts and fellow travellers! We’re Áine and Cahil. We’re a couple based in Dublin and getting ready for our next big trip to South America.
I’m Áine (confusingly pronounced Aww-nya). After two years working with an NGO that supported international volunteering in Dublin, I set off on my first big solo trip slow travelling through Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia with workaway– volunteering in schools, cafés, a Buddhist centre, a farm, an arts and crafts workshop, and a surf camp. I’ve been back home in Dublin for the past year and a half working with another NGO, saving up my energy and money for the next adventure.
Cahil is from Scotland and has spent the last ten years living on the road working as a roadie/truck driver for music tours, travelling all over Europe with bands and crews. For the past year and a half he’s been mostly based in Dublin too, saving up and getting ready for our big trip together.
We’re excited to spend six months..maybe more..slow travelling through South America. We’re going to start in Colombia and see where the wind takes us!
Spanish: I lived in Spain for a while and I’m fluent in Spanish. Cahil has picked up some Spanish while driving through Spain and wants to practice and learn more! We’re both really excited to spend time in Spanish-speaking places and speak Spanish every day.
We’re not English, but we are native English speakers ;)
Interests: We both love the outdoors and spending time in nature; wild swimming, camping, hiking, diving and surfing. Rock climbing together is our currently obsession! We love meeting new people (the weird and wonderful!) and picking their brains about anything from what they like to eat to the meaning of our existence! Cahil is the chef and loves cooking food to share with friends and family.
Skills: Between us, we have a good mix of skills and life experience. Cahil is very handy, used to manual work, and likes working under pressure and organising. He’s always willing to drive too! I (Aine) have softer hands but have lots of experience teaching English in Dublin, Spain and around the world (I have a Cambridge cert in teaching English) and experience in community work. I love working with children and doing creative tasks, writing applications, blogs and social media posts. Also happy to get my hands dirty and have some experience of farm work, hostel check ins etc.
We’ve both spent long periods of time travelling/on the road and we’re used to adapting, living with new people, being flexible and taking things as they come. Having new experiences, being out of our comfort zone, and joining new communities is the whole point for us!

Que habilidades tienes?
I've developed an eclectic mix of skills over the years a range of work and non-work experiences.
For the past 2 years I've worked as Programmes Coordinator for an NGO in Ireland, which promotes peace and social justice through various international volunteer programmes and education workshops. My work has included:
-Developing and managing volunteer and education projects
-Grants and reports writing
-Networking with partner organisations
-Engaging and supporting volunteers
-Promotions and social media management
-Plenty of admin for all of the above!
Other skills include:
- Teaching: I've worked as an English teacher in academies in Spain and Ireland. I'm passionate about non-formal education, and have led workshops on climate justice, social inclusion, global issues and activism.
- Customer Service: I worked in retail throughout university so I am an expert in dealing with people, their queries, their complains and the general behind-the-scenes of a business.
- Childcare: I worked as an au pair in Spain for multiple summers as a teenager. I also come from a very big extended family so am very used to being on babysitting duty!
- DIY: During Covid I did some house renovations so I've dabbled in gardening, painting, and general house maintenance

Algo más...
I've been solo travelling since high school and I've lived abroad at different points in my life so I've developed a lot of 'life skills'. All of this travel has helped me to become a very easy-going, adaptable and open-minded person. Put me to any task and I'm pretty happy to give it my best shot and learn along the way!

She is self-sufficient and very quickly got on with the whole group.
We would welcome her back anytime :) Thank you so much for all your help!
Living in a house with the other volunteers is really special. There is always a multinational group of volunteers from very different backgrounds. Living together allows you to get to know everyone really well, learn a lot from each other, and share so many wonderful… read more
