Hi, I'm Matteo from Italy. I graduated in 2020 and after Covid lock down I started traveling trying to live the experiences i've always dreamed of.

I love traveling, discover new places, meet new people and living new experiences. I'm very curious and always ready to learn. I'm looking for adventures that push me out of my routine. I can adapt to almost all situations and the further away they are from my everyday life, the more interesting I find them.

I studied natural science and agriculture and I work as a freelance in this sector. I decided to work almost an half year and use the other half to travel and learn.

In my free time I like outdoor activities like trekking, running, riding mtb or simply sleeping in tent enjoying the moment. I love the sea and everything related to it: swimming, snorkeling, kayaking. I would like to learn how to sail a boat and scuba diving, but this is work in progress.

My weaknesses are several but the main is overthinking, I always think too much and this make me focus on what could go wrong instead of being confident in my abilities. I'm working on it 😉

I decided to try this new type of travel because I don't want to be a tourist but I want to live like a local, dive deep in the culture of the country and learn as much as possible by helping people with their activities. I love the idea of sharing experiences.

I would like to meet different people from all over the world, with different lifestyles and values and be inspired from them. Because the best way to understand what makes you happy is through direct experience.

Que habilidades tienes?

In my past experiences as volunteer I was involved in basic DIY and general maintenance activities, in building and painting projects and basic cooking. I helped teachers in managing children and organizing games too.

I learned to kitesurf, now I'm independent and I can rent it myself but I still need a lot of practice to get better and better.
I know how to prepare kiting equipment and how to help kiters take off and land the kite.

I usually plan trekking, cycling trips and multi-day outdoor activities with building base camp for the night.

I worked in a farm several years so I have basic knowledge in ornamental plants management, in agronomic techniques and farm work.

I grew up sharing my home with dogs and cats, so I have experience in daily management of pets too.

I like to learn new skills in different fields and I'm opened to start from the bottom. When I'm interested in a project I work hard without complaining, trying to be as much helpful as possible.

In the past I've already been a volunteer, I've been in Madagascar with other guys and girls. We helped a local organization involved in sustainable development and education of children. We also helped in renovation, general maintenance and painting of old buildings. It was an hard but great experience and now I hope to live many others like that.

Thanks to Workaway I've been a volunteer in Srilanka for 1 month in a kitesurf school.
I helped moving the equipment to and from the spot. With the staff I prepared the kites for the customers on the beach. I took pictures of the kiters and helped in the bar. I also learned to kitesurf. Definitely a great experience.

In Guadalupe island I volunteered in a botanical garden for 10 days, helping with the garden maintenance and farm work.

I took part as crew member in a sailboat trip along Italy for 10 days and on a wooden sailing vessel in Carribbean for 2 months, helping with sails, navigation and boat maintenance. I'm still a beginner but I've learned a lot about boat life and sailing.

I made several trips in the most beautiful places in Italy, on foot and by bike, in the northern mountains and along the coast.

I've traveled to several foreign countries: England, France and Germany for language exchanges. Hungary, Spain and Canary Islands for leisure trips.

I'm independent and self reliant, I like to work in group trying to reach the goal avoiding problems. When I'm hosted I'm respectful, clean and I follow house's rules, reminding me that I'm in someone else's home sharing the place with others.
