Hi There!
My name is Gabi, I am originally from Austria and this year is my 30th (!) anniversary that I left my country of origin and ventured out into the world!
I have been working in tourism for many years in the Sinai/Egypt, co-owned a tourism establishment, have been a diving instructor in the Red Sea for 16 years, worked in Cairo, Berlin and Singapore as a school teacher and am currently living in Hurghada/Egypt working at a primary school. At the same time I teach yoga and immerse myself into retreats if there is time.
I LOVE travelling, learning new things and meeting people from all over. Mostly together with my boys I have travelled Europe, parts of Africa and Asia, did a bit of America and still have to visit Central- and South America and Australia/NZ.
My 2 boys are grown up now which gives me lots of time to my thing :)
What brings me happiness? Definitely nature, silence but also friends and community. It makes me happy to make other people happy :) I guess that's what I try to do as a teacher next to delivering academics and that's what drove me in tourism. Enriching people's lives with what I have to offer - which is care, warmth, a smile, experience, professionalism and also a good attitude towards work and the responsibilities that come with it.
When I lived in the Sinai I have been deeply involved with the local Bedouin community, I speak the language and up to this day have wonderful friends that I visit as often as I can. The way desert people live is the total opposite to our western culture and has taught me so much. I am deeply grateful for these years in my life.
As a nature lover both the desert (my current environment) and green have their attraction, as a scuba diver and having been involved in marine conservation for many years the ocean is as much part of me as the land I am walking on.
Next to diving and yoga I hike a lot and wherever there's a mountain I'm on it!
So here I am exploring again new terrains, hoping to do this in an impactful, fun and responsible way.Intereses

I have extensive experience in the tourism industry as I used to co-own a tourism establishment offering Scuba diving, desert trips, arranging accommodation and flight bookings. I worked at a hotel reception as the guest relation person, giving information, selling and organising trips and simply keeping guests happy.
As a teacher I teach German and English, Maths and Sciences - although this is not something I prefer to do during a workaway experience. All various soft skills that are required of teachers I am totally happy to bring into this experience: get stuff done, motivate others, communication skills, organising whatever, flexibility, solution-thinking, professionalism and many more.
I am also a Hatha/Vinyasa and Yin Yoga teacher (YTT 200h in Singapore and Berlin), I teach meditation and mindfulness classes and am more than happy to share my knowledge and passion.
In the Sinai I have been working as a tour guide for hiking and safaris, again I am happy to support with anything in this direction.
I would love to LEARN about sustainable living and gardening and am happy to try out totally new things too!Edad

I love animals! We always had at least one dog and a cat but the boys also brought home fish, turtles, pigeons - and we looked after all of them. It's amazing to have animals around and each child should have the possibility to grow up with one (my humble opinion :) )

This was my first workaway experience and Riku surely made it a memorable one. From first contact communication was easy-going with the flexibility I like. Due to flight delays I arrived a day later which was not a problem at all,… read more
