Hi, I’m Dóra, a 37-year-old from Hungary, currently taking a sabbatical from my career in finance to explore new places, meet interesting people and experience different ways of living.

I’m a very active and social person, and I feel happiest when I’m outdoors, around good people, and doing something I enjoy. I’m passionate about cooking, healthy living, sports and nature. I love preparing fresh, nutritious and colourful food and sharing meals with others. I’m also a big fan of snowboarding, kitesurfing, hiking, via ferrata, kayaking, swimming, CrossFit and yoga.

I enjoy being useful and getting involved in everyday life. I’m happy to cook, help around the house, look after guests, drive a car or simply see what needs to be done. I’m practical, reliable and flexible, and I like being part of a team rather than just feeling like a visitor. I also sometimes take care of my 4-year-old niece, so I’m comfortable spending time with children.

Through Workaway, I’m especially interested in winter positions, kitesurf camps, yoga retreats, mountain huts, hostels and other community-based places. I’d love to be part of a team or family where I can contribute to everyday life, share my love of cooking, hospitality, sports and nature, and learn from the people around me.

In September, I worked at a campsite near Oslo, where I prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner for around 60 people, fed the animals and took part in different projects around the house and campsite. Earlier in the summer, I worked as a cook at a kitesurf camp in Sicily, preparing healthy breakfasts and dinners for around 16 guests. I really enjoyed the combination of cooking, being outdoors and living and working together with a group of people.

I grew up in the countryside, so being close to nature and getting involved in practical everyday tasks has always felt very natural to me.

Before my sabbatical, I worked in finance for a global multinational company. I’ve also lived and worked abroad, including working in the kitchens of children’s summer camps in the USA and Canada, and I spent time living and studying in Mexico.

I have always loved exploring the world and discovering new cultures — “Dóra the Explorer” is not a coincidence! 😊 For me, travelling is about much more than visiting new places. I love getting to know people, experiencing everyday life, learning about different cultures and becoming part of a community. I’ve hosted many international friends and travellers in my home in Budapest, and some of them have become lifelong friends.

I’m currently learning German and French, and I’m always curious to learn something new from the people I meet.

I’m looking forward to meeting new people, contributing where I can, and hopefully finding some wonderful places and communities to become a small part of along the way. 😊
