Hello Host Families and travelers!
My name is Anna, I'm 27 years old, and am currently looking to travel/volunteer between January 2024 - March 2025.
About me:
I aim to lead a simple, happy, helpful, and sustainable life. I'm an easy going person with an overall positive and optimistic outlook on life. I am happiest when I'm outside and feel very connected to the natural world. I enjoy hiking, biking, mushroom foraging, climbing trees, writing (in my journal), reading, cooking healthy meals, baking, and forest exploring. I want to be a life-long learned and keep growing as a person so I can give back to nature and the communities I live in!
I appreciate folks who practice open and honest communication. I've lived communally in many different settings and have always co-habitated happily with everyone else. I love having a community!
I hold a degree in Environmental Science with a focus in education. I have worked a wide variety of jobs at outdoor schools, leading foraging tours, guiding backpacking trips for kids/teens, developing environmental education curriculum, and guiding international trips. My jobs have taken me throughout Oregon, indigenous villages in rural Alaska, India, Thailand, and Ecuador! This is my professional niche and am happy to contribute to any projects along these themes - outdoor education, adventure guiding, general tourism, creating interpretive signs, creating educational materials/curriculum. I'm a naturalist at heart and love to dive deep into natural areas, and document/identify species as a hobby.
I would additionally would love to help with, and experience in, gardening/farm work. When settled somewhere I enjoy keeping a garden - I'm proficient but there's always more to learn!
I can also contribute help with kitchen tasks. I love to cook and process food. I'm always busy with projects in my home kitchen such as: fermenting peppers (from my garden!) for hot sauce, making sauerkraut, brewing kombucha, pickling veggies, making broths, canning to preserve food, etc.
I'm also a very clean and organized person and have experience in hospitality, so I'm happy to help clean and organize homes or rentals (I have experience meticulously cleaning rentals).
And- are you interested in growing mushroom?? So am I!! I've practiced growing edible mushrooms, something I'm extremely passionate about. If you have any interest in growing mushrooms on your land, or can teach me more, please feel free to reach out!
I'm fairly open to different kinds of work, and am sure I can meet it with enthusiasm. I prefer longer-term organized projects to invest my time into, so that I can contribute steadily and see results.
I'm looking forward to finding communities with similar values - nature appreciation, sustainable living, and healthy food and land. I have a lot I'd like to learn so that one day I can settle into my own piece of land and hopefully incorporate all the knowledge I am seeking now. Thanks for reading!
