Aloha from a hidden corner of Hawaii’s jungle – join our off-grid family for a true island cultural exchange
We are a small family bringing a forgotten 5-acre piece of tropical jungle back to life, the old Hawaiian way — with our hands, hearts, and respect for the ‘āina (land). This is more than a project; it’s a living classroom in sustainable Polynesian-style homesteading, permaculture, and off-grid island living.
Every day here is a cultural exchange. You’ll learn side-by-side with us how to:
    • Plant and tend food forests with native and Polynesian-introduced trees (ulu/breadfruit, kalo/taro, mai‘a/banana, rare palms, mango, avocado, lychee, citrus and dozens more)
    • Care for free-range chickens and ducks the Hawaiian way
    • Harvest rainwater, tend solar systems, and cook on wood fires, — real off-grid skills most people only read about
    • Build simple structures from bamboo we harvest on the land
    • Prepare communal meals from whatever the land gives us that week
    • Keep bees among the flowering jungle
    • Walk jungle trails, listen to stories of this place, and feel the mana (spirit) of old Hawaii
In return you share your own culture — your language, music, recipes, stories — around the fire. Many evenings we just sit under a sky so clear the Milky Way feels close enough to touch, talking story until the trade winds send us to sleep.
    What you receive
    • Sleeping space inside our large barn-style shed. Seperated by gender. Often private space. (platform bed, mosquito net, — comfortable and dry)
    • Meals.
    • Daily immersion in authentic off-grid Hawaiian jungle life
    • Practical lifelong skills in permaculture, renewable energy, food preservation beekeeping
    • A profound connection to nature and to this very special place on earth
    We ask for
    • 2 hours a day, 5 days a week of light, varied help (always alongside us — never alone)
    • A minimum stay of 2–3 weeks so the exchange feels real and meaningful
    • Lots of curiosity, respect for the land, and a desire to both learn and share
No experience needed — only a good heart, willingness to smile through a little sweat, and excitement about living simply and deeply for a while.
If you’ve ever dreamed of waking up to birdsong, eating fruit straight from the tree, learning how people can live gently with the jungle, and falling asleep under the brightest stars you’ve ever seen… this is your place.
Send us a personal message and tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, and why this Hawaiian jungle chapter calls to you. We can’t wait to meet you and share this life!
    Mahalo
