Descripción
Welcome to our retreat center in Zeeland, the Netherlands. We offer a place to slow down, connect, grow and transform. Thanks to the connection with yourself, others and the environment, you get new inspiration for life.
We are a non-profit Foundation promoting a warm, resilient and healthy society. We do this by organizing retreats where people can 'land', rewind, reorient and enjoy nature together. Our mission is purpose driven. We also invite vulnerable groups and individuals or people who have done something special for others or the planet to come and stay with us without cost for a couple of days. We learn from them, or offer them our support and share with them a healthy and balanced lifestyle. In respect of all sentient beings we eat mainly plant based food (no animals) and we don't allow nor serve alcohol.
We are close to the coast, with vast beaches, dunes and a beautiful forest. It is a very quite place and you really feel away from everything. As a volunteer, you will join us in daily rhythm of a retreat life. We often start the day with a silent meditation and yoga or Qi Gong session. We also offer silent walks, guided meditations, dance moments, sharing circles or we have a dip together in the sea at just 1 km from our center.
Together with the staf and our guests you contribute to the retreat and community life, taking good care of yourself, the others and the place. We believe that taking care of others is taking care of yourself, and taking good care of yourself is at the same time caring about others.
Practicing a good and healthy balance between the two is what we need to improve in today's world.
We are looking for all round people but especially people who care about others and the planet and who are looking for a (more) balanced, healthy and conscious life style. This is our mission. We also appreciate continuous and honest feedback so that we can enhance and honor our collaboration every day.
We have a preference for Dutch speaking people, simply because this is the language most spoken here and we don't want you to feel excluded. But we also welcome those who have already a basic or intermediate level of Dutch and want to learn or practice the language. Very happy to help you with that! If you want to develop skills or show your talents in any particular field, please mention this in your application.
If we feel it can be a match, we will have a video call to see whether it will fit. If you come you agree with the community guidelines of the center, what is on our website we will send to you after the call.
Who are the other residents that you will meet?
- Liselotte is the founder of the retreat center. Together with her partner Michiel, she is the driving force behind the project. Together they make a dream come true and they want to create a beautiful place where people come together with the intention of restoring balance in their personal lives, in wider society and in their relationship with nature. She is a great connector between people, loves the community life, and she is always enthusiastic about new ideas and projects!
- Joyce has a great reputation as our mindfulness, yoga and dance teacher. Her voice brings people in a safe and quiet state. Joyce is the perfect person here to make people feel welcome and wind down from the hectic world. As she has been a 'workaway' herself during her travels, she loves introducing and helping out workaways
When she is not giving sessions in the morning and evening, she helps us all out to keep our homy retreat center clean and cozy!
-Nadine fell in love with the place and the people from the very first encounter. And for quite some time now, deeply connected. First as a participant in an Open Space retreat, then — occasionally — as a massage therapist and yoga teacher. And today, Nadine also takes care of the communication and administration for our retreat center. She consistently finds the right words and images to bring our place and mission to life across different channels. In many other ways too, she contributes to making our mission a lived reality.
-Britte is our youngest and newly arrived administrative wizzard! She moved here two years ago to live closer near the sea and fell in love with the area. She lives in town with her partner and two dogs and loves to practice yoga. As a matter of fact, she is trained as a yoga teacher and will soon do some morning sessions here. She is eager to learn and loves to contribute to the wonderful community vibes that characterize this place.
- Mieke was enthusiastic from the very first moment Liselotte told her about the mission. Since the opening, she has been happily volunteering a few days a week. She takes care of the flowers in the center and, together with other volunteers, helps maintain the beautiful garden. By now, it even has its own dahlia cutting garden. The flowers add an extra layer of warmth and beauty to the atmosphere in the center. Creating beauty with flowers and plants is Mieke’s great passion.
- Sofie worked for many years as a teacher in teacher training and, in recent years, has guided people in their personal and professional growth, both individually and in groups. She has deepened her practice in areas such as coaching, circle work, nature connection, strengths-based and systemic work, Pilates, and yoga. From her very first participation in an Open Space Retreat, she felt a special connection to the place and the community — it felt like coming home. Today, she is actively present as a warm host and point of contact for the volunteers, helping to create an environment that invites slowing down and connection.
-Ingeborg grew up by the sea and has now been living in Zeeland for twenty-five years. Throughout her career, she has developed herself in various creative directions. She worked as an art education teacher, an artist, and a stylist in shops. She also helped set up one of the first vegetarian restaurants in Rotterdam. Later, she brought those skills into her work as a vegetarian cook and natural nutrition consultant. Thanks to her wide range of knowledge and skills, Ingeborg is active in several areas within our center, with her main focus on organizing the kitchen. -

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
You participate in the daily life of the retreat center and the daily activities nourishing the body and mind. This is an excellent time to take a time out from your daily routines and think about the next steps in your life.
During the retreats there will be 3 delicious vegan meals served a day. You will learn to appreciate and enjoy plant based food.
There is no alcohol in the center and we also like it if people (and our volunteers) detox digitally.
You will have the opportunity to meet interesting people (trainers, coaches, artists, musicians, mindfulness teachers, therapists...).
You will have the opportunity to practice a healthy lifestyle, meditate, reflect and share with the staf and the other guests the life areas that your are working on to improve.
If you want to learn Dutch, practice yoga, develop your artistic skills, or develop the art of meditation and yoga, you are at the right address.
You will be full member of the community.
You can also use all the facilities in the center. We have a big library, a massage room, a creative space, a natural swimming pool, a sauna (you can use on fixed moments), ... and much more. -
Ayuda
You help on average 5 hours a day and 5 days a week. Some days it can be a little bit more and some days it will be less but on average no more than 5 hours. We appreciate your flexibility.
We organise the tasks in a way that you will have plenty of time to enjoy the facilities of the center, the workshops that are offered by our staff and the beautiful environment of Schouwen Duiveland.
The help we need varies depending on the activities planned. You can contribute in many ways. Primarily we care about health and healthy food. If this is your interest, we can teach you how to prepare plant-based food and you can help in preparing the meals for the team and the other volunteers. You can also play an active role by sharing and further developing your talents and skills in any activity that we organise and is needed in our center: yoga, breathwork, creative work, socials, movement, marketing, working in the garden
In return we offer the support of a warm and fun community that will welcome you as one of them! If there is no tasks to help with, you are free to enjoy yourself or to work on your own project. Sometimes we all need some time by ourselves, so if there are no retreats, you will consult with the administrators on what to do. Our staff is willing to support and coach you with your personal goals or if you feel stuck in any area of your life.
An attitude of respect and integrity is very important to us. As a volunteer, you will act ethically, positively and with respect for other guests. -
