  I'm Ana, a public school teacher. I live in a quiet town in Catalonia with my husband Emilio and our cats. Our closest airport is Barcelona.
  Our location and address will be disclosed only to accepted Workawayers.
  My town is not really suitable if you plan to visit Barcelona every day, just occassionally would be ok.
  
  I'm looking for a WOMAN who would enjoy a relaxed but meaningful language exchange: real conversation, a bit of teaching and learning, and the experience of living with a local family.
  
  I'm a certified teacher, so while you're here I can offer quality lessons adapted to your level and difficulties. If you want to improve your Spanish or Catalan, I can guarantee you'll leave having learnt something new.
  
  A typical day:
  Breakfast is on me. It includes coffee, tea or fruit juice and toast or sweet things like cookies. I work from 9:00 to 16:30 so most probably you'll be on your own in the mornings.
  
  The day is yours: explore, work online or simply rest. After 17:30 we have our lesson, one hour each: I teach you Spanish (or Catalan) and you help me with your language. The evenings are relaxed. At weekends you can plan whatever you like, or I can suggest places.
  
  What you get:
  -A private room with a big bed and a desk, with fresh linen, blankets and towels
  -Some breakfast
  -The use of my kitchen. Other meals aren't included, so please budget for lunch and dinner.
  -Free Spanish or Catalan lessons from a certified teacher.
  -A day out together (or more if you're willing), with personalised tours, local places and beaches you couldn't reach by public transport
  -wifi connection.
  
  Who I'd love to host:
  
  My ideal volunteer values the exchange above all. She genuinely wants to learn Spanish or Catalan and get to know a Spanish family, and those must be her main goals for the stay.
  If your main plan is sightseeing in Barcelona, studying or visiting friends or family there, this is probably not the right match for you.
  
  You'll never have to spend time with me or socialise if you'd rather relax in your room. I might invite you to join us, but I won't always be suggesting activities, so that you never feel you have to join in with everything. If you'd like to do something together, such as going for a walk or cooking a meal (meals aren't included, but we can cook together sometimes), just tell me and I'll be happy to join if my obligations allow it.
  
  Please feel free to ask me anything about the house. If you don't know how something works, or you need something you don't have, ask me directly. I'm not good at guessing when someone is uncomfortable or needs something, so I really appreciate and value honesty in my reviews.
  
  After 2 to 3 days together, I'd like to have a short chat to hear how you're feeling, whether you need anything, and whether you'd like something to be different. I hosted many people but everyone is different and might have different needs or expectancies, so do not take for granted that I will guess.
  My guests are important for me and their comfort is key.
  
  My husband is shy. He may not talk to you right away, but he warms up with time, so please be patient with him. For breaking the ice, just bring him a coin from your country because he has a collection.
  
  Non-negotiable: I can't host volunteers who smoke, drink alcohol every day or go partying at night regularly.
  Also, I can't host people who are allergic to cats.

  We are a Catalan couple, born in Barcelona, although our families were emigrants originally from other parts of Spain. We have grown up in cultural environments marked by this culture shock and we can explain to you many traditions that we have learned here, or that we learned from the places where our families are from. We know Catalan and Spanish history and a good part of the customs. We are good at recommending places to visit that might be of interest to you. If you are a big fan of history, we can give you a historical tour in Barcelona.
  
  What you'll take home from the exchange:
  -Getting to know a Spanish family
  -Trying Spanish food
  -Visits to local places that tourists don't usually see
  -Spanish lessons with a real teacher
  -Living in a real, very local Spanish town
  
  TRANSPORTATION
  The nearest airport is Barcelona. You can come by train from there.

  HOW THE EXCHANGE WORKS
  -You help me practise French or English for one hour a day, in the late afternoon or evening, after 17:30. In return, I teach you Spanish or Catalan.
  If I am not working the days of your stay, we can switch to mornings.
  
  I have my own French books but you are free to bring / prepare your own materials which you think would be suitable for me.
  I am absolutely open to possibilities.
  I'm in between B1 and B2 level. I'd like structured lessons, not just chit-chat. Teaching experience is a plus but not essential.
  
  For English am looking for someone who can teach new vocabulary or expressions or to challenge me to sound more natural when I talk in English.
  
  For both languages I have my own paid language teachers online but it's nice to have a volunteer to have some sessions in person and also learn about other cultures and experiences.
  
  By the way, if you managed to read until this point, mention your favourite pizza in your request.
  
  GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU CONTACT ME
  -I host one WOMAN at a time, over 25, and for 2 weeks. Longer stays won't usually work for me. Please, check the calendar first and tell me the dates you can commit to.
  -I can't host anyone who might be annoyed by cat fur inside the apartment.
  -Windows stay closed for the cats' safety.
  -I ask that you clean after yourself at home.
  -Volunteers cannot use the washing machine or dishwasher on their own (just ask me to do it).
  -If you request, please tell me your motivations, plans while you are here and the skills you can offer. I always send a questionnaire to potential candidates to see if we are a great fit.

  Alojamiento

  We live in a small flat (apartment) in a town. There is one bathroom so we'll have to share it.
  You have your own room but sometimes I need to get inside because I have stuff inside the wardrobe there. We have a washing line outside your window and I need it when we do laundry.
  
  If you are looking for a door with a lock or that I never step inside your room, this is not your place.
  
  There are no luxuries and no central heating. Sometimes not everything is tidy because I have the cats. But I try my best.
  
  There is a camera that I use to watch the cats inside one of the rooms. There are NO other cameras in the house.

  These are our rescue cats. For various reasons they can't be put for adoption and temporarily live with us even though they belong to the rescue.

  Rein

  He is black and always jumpy. You will recognize him for his athletic shape and super long tail. Rein is the God of rain. It always rains when he is near.

  Mani

  You will never see him and that's how you will recognize him if one day he appears like a ghost.

  Churu (3 meses)

  She is our little one. Always up for playing and be present.
