Hello,
We are a group of friends organising folk events in Gent. We do this on a non-profit base.
Folk is a warm community of people from all ages who come together to enjoy beautiful (live) music and who like dancing in couple and as a group.
We organise 1 dance evening per month & next year from 21 to 23 february 2025 we are organising our very first Folkfestival in Ghent for a maximum of 400 people and we can use your help to make it happen. The Folk community is very open and you will be welcomed fully. There will be opportunities to join dances & dance initiations but you are by no means obliged to dance if you don't want to. At the moment (12/12/2024) we have about 60 people signed up for volunteering but we can use about 65 people so there is still room for you to join! Current volunteers are a 50/50 mix of Belgians & international volunteers.
There will be plenty of opportunities to interact and get to know local dancers and artists aswell as international ones.
When do we need help?
- 21-23 february 2025, for help during the festival itself. -> we can provide accomodation for this period.
- Our regular evenings, we usually use local volunteers, because we can't provide accomodation for this period.
- There are other balfolk festivals in the area (Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany) 1 of them in Leuven in march is on workaway.

You will get to know the world of European BalFolk in its most intimate sense, 3 days of fun and true connection.

We'll need all sorts of help, at the registry, taking care of artists, helping building up & taking down decorations.

We will or provide a sleeping space on field beds in a heated building relativly close to the festival or bedding in a hostel. More details will be available as 2025 comes closer.

The festival is in the city of Ghent itself, so it is very reachable by public transport. In your free time you can enjoy the festival or the city itself.

She helped us with our potluck ball in the month of May.
She was there early in the day to help us with the buildup & from the moment she arrived she was an absolute pleasure to have around.
