    Hello Dear:
We are Manijeh and Jim, two semi retired professionals who love meeting new people and sharing the beauty of British Columbia with our guests. Our farm is a peaceful, safe space filled with love, kindness, and harmony. Surrounded by stunning mountain views, a river, and wooded hillsides, it’s the perfect place to connect with nature. Wake up early to watch the sunrise, listen to birds singing at 4 AM in June, and enjoy the serenity of farm life.

We’re on a mission to eliminate fossil fuels from our daily lives and are renovating our buildings for very low energy use. We’re also working on landscaping and other projects, but we have more work than we can handle on our own. That’s where you come in!

We are a retired couple working to live simply. There is lots and lots of potential work to be done. We are a residence, farm with a number of pilot projects geared towards eliminating fossil fuels from our daily lives . At the moment, the main jobs are:

Ongoing project: Renovation of the house exterior to improve weather resistance and provide a major energy consumption reduction. Looking for exterior painter.

    Medium term projects (1-2 yrs)
COMPLETED PROJECTS!: Insulating our living & work space with the intention of reducing energy necessary for heat/cool by 80%. This involves adding an eyebrow to our two story house, adding 3-5 inches of foam board to the exterior of our building, replacing the windows with triple pane low e glass and skinning the exterior with cement board strips. During 2017 we have achieved this on our 2500 sq ft work-space. Now to install the mini-split heat pump.

    CURRENT Short Term Projects:

clearing blackberries of creek riparian zone
    Grounds keeping, designing landscaping plans
    repairing tools & equipment
DISASSEMBLING OBSOLETE INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONIC EQIPMENT, for recycling.

    Long Term Projects:
    converting barn to volunteer residence
    30kw solar array with storage

    Dreams:
plant apples/cherries on hillside, make Apple tree seedlings from our 90yr old dying apple tree.

develop a vegetable/egg vending machine kiosk for our road.

Style: We strive for a relaxed work style. We promote problem solving, self-direction, and cooperative work. Our goal is to have concise direction followed by an engaged atmosphere in which we work towards a common goal. We are looking for help for all aspects of farming: tractor work, carpentry, gardening, digging, fencing, planting, bush clearing, irrigation, food preservation, weeding, cooking, sleeping etc... If you are interested in being a jack or Jill of all trades and are interested in extended stay, this is the place for you. We strive for DIY as a way of self-empowerment and creative expression.

What a volunteer day looks like: wake up and cook breakfast. Workawayers must be able to prepare their dinners on their own. Most weeks we have a meal for all residents in the main kitchen. We provide the basic raw staples, e.g., whole grains, vegetables from garden or freezer, beans, flour for bread, homemade yogurt & simple cheese, commercial cheese, PB. You maintain your own kitchen, including buying whatever extras you desire. You are responsible for cleaning up after yourself. Volunteering starts around 8:30 and we work until we get hungry for lunch - 12:20 or so. After lunch we do a bit more work or take a break during the hottest hours of the day. Workawayers are required to do at least 5 hours of help a day. After that we have dinner and you are free to do as you like.

We do what we can to provide a workable social space in which to learn and share knowledge about low impact construction and organic farming.
