I was caring for Monet and Bleu while Hilary and Tim were away, and it was a very rewarding experience. Monet, the Aussie Shepherd, is full of life and energy, always ready for a walk or a play. We spent a lot of time together hiking around Bowen’s beautiful trails and playing with his plush toys. At first, he could be a little cheeky, especially when food was involved, but once he got used to me, he became an incredibly loyal companion. Bleu, on the other hand, is a very sweet, beautiful and calm cat. She enjoys her independence, but she would always seek out a cuddle when she needed it. Both pets love being around people—you might even share your bed with them, and are perfect companions for anyone who loves the company of animals!
Their peaceful home, surrounded by towering cedar trees, is just a short drive from the ferry. I had my own private space with an ensuite bathroom, which made my stay even more comfortable. During my time there, I helped out by organizing and doing some light cleaning.
Hilary and Tim’s kindness and generosity made this an incredibly special experience. They even let me stay longer until my next host was ready to receive me. I’m deeply grateful for my time with them and couldn’t recommend staying with Hilary, Tim, Monet, and Bleu more highly!

… read more beginning and end of my stay which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately I was unwell for the last few days, and Hilary was kind enough to let me stay on until I had fully recovered. My main highlight was spending time with Monet (a gorgeous Aussie Shepherd) who became my companion and came everywhere with me on the island. Bleu the cat loved his daily feed and a few cuddles before adventuring out again! Nicola was fab - she reorganized some of our personal effects and it was amazing. Our pets were well attended and our dog almost wasn’t excited to see us cuz he was so happy with Nicola! Would love to have her back another time. Thank you Nicola.

We cannot put into words how incredibly grateful we are for our time with Hilary and Tim, Monet and Blue. They made us feel like home in a time where we did not have one and gave us their trust throughout all this time.
Hilary and Tim are extremely kind and generous people. They always make sure you feel comfortable and have everything you need.
… read more They even did their best to hook us up with jobs and made all kind of connections. We ended up staying much longer than intended also due to health reasons and Hilary and Tim were okay with sheltering us. We looked after Monet and Blue 3 times in a total of 7 weeks. We grew super fond of them both and had a wonderful time together.
Monet is just an adorable, bright soul with a lot of energy and intellect. We went on minimum hourly walks through beautiful trails and hikes around Bowen with him and even tried to teach him some more tricks, played with his plushies and gave him lots of cuddles and love. He may try to find his boundaries with you at first (especially when food is involved) but once he gets used to you he is just amazing company. Blue is probably the cutest cat we met so far (no kidding! And we met a few :D) She is super gentle, independent, cuddly and easy-going. Both of them love to be close to people and may come cuddle with you at night. So you should be fine with sharing your bed with a peaceful (sometimes a little bit snoring) dog and sometimes a repeatedly visiting cat whenever she needs a break from her nightly adventures.
Hilary and Tim’s place is located 12 min by car from the ferry terminal in a quiet and serene neighborhood. There is a forest right behind the house with huge cedar trees and a little creek. We had our own little room with ensuite bathroom over the garage. Bowen is a beautiful place, much more quiet and slow paced than the buzzing city. Yet, it is just a 20 min ferry ride away.
Some additional tasks we did were cooking, wood stapling, sorting out some wood shingles, running a few errands over in North Van, decluttering a room, cleaning etc.
We will forever be grateful for our experience with Hilary, Tim, Monet and Blue and can only recommend staying with them!Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.
