We are the first project in Oaxaca State looking forward to preserve agave species, organic farming, and handmade organic Mezcal.
We support the plantations by helping planting, harvesting and specially caring and weeding by hand our fields. Sometimes it's not easy but there is lots to learn.

Because of the help is very physical, we also help the community by supporting other local NGO's, or doing exchanges with schools or students.

I'm Jorge, Mexican traveller and former volunteer around Serbia, Turkey and Germany. I will welcome volunteers as I have been welcomed in those amazing projects, with open arms and respect.
The 2020 lockdown bought me back home, where I realized the needs of my hometown in term of growing and preserving the agave species for mezcal production, and the lack of manpower to keep this small industry being sustainable.

As a host, friend and colleague, I will help you understand and know my country and agaves.

Come and experience the real Mexico, real Mezcal, and our cultural heritage.

Our minimum stay is 3 weeks, and soon we will extend it to 4 weeks.

We have two kind of activities: farm and community days.

Farm days start early morning, 5-6 am until the sun becomes too hot for us.
House / community days start later (7-10 am) until we are done.

Farm days will be at least two per week, they vary as per seasonal demand.

It can be from easy to very hard, depending on the activities
    - planting agaves and trees, fertilizing, weeding (the most required activity), harvesting big agaves with machetes and loading trucks with very heavy weights.
    - if possible, participating in some stages of the mezcal making process.

House / community days will be at least once per week, and can be:
    - House cleaning, cooking, painting or home improvements.
    - School exchange and presentations.
    - Elder house visits and Red Cross help.

*Farm days require good physical condition, no back problem, or farm related allergies (sun, dust, etc)

For sleeping, volunteers will stay in a small mixed shared dorm, there is a small dorm for girls only and other for couples. The sleeping area is for 5 person max.

Breakfast and Lunch are provided and will be prepared in the kitchen by the volunteers. We do a weekly shopping in the local farmer's market where we get the ingredients for our meals. However, living downtown have an extra advantage since there are few taco places as well as tiny restaurants.
