Descripción

Our little pousada is located almost directly on the beach of the beautiful Costa Dourada, the first beach in Bahia, 30 km from Itaunas/Espirito Santo. We have a large, beautiful tropical garden with a pool, 50 meters from the beach and the famous rocks of the Costa Dourada. We are Manja, Norbert and Moritz, a German family, but have lived in Brazil since 2004.
We seek dedicated, proactive people (we prefer couples) to join us as hosts at our guesthouse. If you enjoy a welcoming environment and teamwork, this is for you! Responsibilities include room cleaning, laundry, bathroom upkeep, and garden care like watering plants, raking, and lawn mowing. Marketing experience is a plus. Join our team!

We love welcoming Workawayers as part of our little beach family. You’ll join us in daily life at the pousada, share meals, laughter, and stories, and get a real taste to the relaxed rhythm of life by the ocean. We’ll work together side by side, and you’ll always be included as part of the team. In return, we’re excited to learn from you — your culture, and your way of seeing the world. More than just helping out, it’s about making connections, exchanging experiences, and creating memories together.

Our pousada is located 50 meters from the beautiful beach on the Costa Dourada. You can spend your afternoons at the beach or at the hotel. Costa Dourada is a small beach town with a few hotels and restaurants. If you love nature and solitude, this is the place for you. It's perfect for couples.

Our feedback regarding our 16 days at Manja and Norbert`s house in Costa Dourada is mixed and we think it`s important to highlight both the upsides and the downsides.

On one hand, we must say that the place is really a small paradise just in front of the sea: the pousada is wonderful, as well as the accommodation provided for the volunteers, we … read more had a cozy room in a secluded part of the house, a private bathroom and full access to the kitchen. In addition to that the house is right in front of the sea, with direct access to km of studding beaches and cliffs. All of that can be enjoyed with just four hours per day of easy work, basically just organizing the breakfast, cleaning dishes and kitchen and gardening. The initial deal was that breakfast and one meal were provided per day, and Manja is a great cook so we had many great meals (including Italian-style pizza) for which we are really grateful.
Indeed, a very good deal in terms of efforts required and facilities that you get in exchange.

On the other hand, however, there are several things that we think it`s important to note that made our stay in Costa Dourada a bit awkward and definitely different from what we expected as a workaway experience.
First of all, communication is basically absent. Manja and Norbert are not really talkative and we were hardly ever included in their daily activities: no explanation of our tasks, no clear definition of the routine and, most importantly, no real interest in talking to each other and sharing stories and moments. We were basically unpaid employees rather than travelling volunteers. Nothing really bad with that, but we think it`s important for other travelers to take that into account.
Moreover, the initial agreement was of one meal per day, but it was never said whether it was lunch or dinner and in many occasions we end up missing the meal because we were out exploring the surroundings, an inconvenient that could`ve been avoided with a better communication.
In addition to that, when we told them that we were leaving a few days earlier than what was initially agreed , the communication completely dropped, they stopped talking to us and they also stopped to prepare us the agreed meals.
We also had an unfortunate experience with a medical problem, as we asked to go to the closest pharmacy to get a medicine but instead they went by themselves and brought us a different medicine. Again, another example of bad communication and of how it leads to making people feel uncomfortable.
The very sad end was our last day in Costa Dourada: Manja and Norbert didn't show up to say goodbye and when we wrote us a goodbye message they never replied.

In the end, we could summarize stating that if you want to work few hours of an easy job in exchange of a beautiful accommodation, this is your place, but if you are seeking for something more, for a meaningful experience with a host that is welcoming and likes to talk and share with workawayers, then you should probably look somewhere else.

Gabi & Lucas are great! We had a wonderful time with them. Gabi and Lukas work diligently and independently, always see what needs to be done, and have helped us greatly in improving our pousada. Their good humor is contagious, and we already miss them. I really hope to see these two radiant hearts again. We highly recommend them.
