Ci siamo alternate nella preparazione dei pasti e, nonostante la sua cucina sia vegana e senza glutine, Emanuela è una cuoca eccezionale. Ogni piatto era delizioso, creativo e spesso realizzato con ingredienti a km 0.

We stayed for three weeks at Emanuela's beautiful place. She is first and foremost a very generous, passionate and eco-conscious person. Besides, she is an amazing vegan gluten-free cook, we enjoyed some amazing dishes together and even added new favourites to our list like freselle and fragitelli's. :) Our tasks included fixing fences, making
… read more gates and bookshelves, cooking and cuddling with the dogs and cats (who we already miss dearly!) We loved that she gave us the freedom to use our creativity in the projects so that we could leave a mark at her spot. The work schedule was very flexible and we could choose for ourselves when we wanted a day off. She took us to a pizza party which was super nice and she gave us some nice recommendations for the surroundings. Make sure to go to the river once you're there! Alex and I stayed with Em in her beautiful home for about 2.5 weeks. From the second she picked us up from the train station Em was incredibly kind, welcoming, and fun. We really enjoyed going to the local markets for fresh produce and getting our own bottles of fresh water. During our stay, Alex and I harvest mulberries to make jam, gardened,
… read more organized the outdoor sheds, cared for Em precious animals, and helped with cleaning and cooking. We loved the flexibility that we were provided when we worked and what projects we did. One of the main reasons we wanted to do a workaway was to be immersed in someone else's culture/life. Em went above and beyond to make sure we got this experience, which for me, was the most valuable take away of all. She taught us lots of new recipes for both cooking and baking, brought us along to events, introduced us to some of her friends, helped us plan day trips to Rome and Fara Sabina, and even brought us to a lovely dinner with other workawayers at her neighbors house! Em is very direct in her communication so we had a good idea of what she needed help with and the expectations were very clear. I enjoyed having conversations with her about cultural differences, life in Italy, and everything in between. What an incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity! We stayed for almost a month at Emanuelas beautiful home. It was our first workaway experience as a family. The second we arrived we felt very welcome and at home at her place. She has a cosy home and a huge and beautiful garden where there is a lot to explore and admire. Our son especially loved the strawberries and mulberries.

Almost every day Emanuela served us a homemade delicious meal with a lot of vegetables and well chosen ingredients. We had great late conversations in the kitchen while baking and we feel very grateful that we could get to know Emanuela (and of course her lovley dogs, cats and sheeps ;-))
She was also very helpful by giving us great tips for the area around to explore in our free time and we even got to explore some places together.
Thank you Emanuela for this great experience and we wish you that you will achieve all of your dreams (big and small).

… read more even know that such great tastes and spices exist! The house is pretty and rustic, and the surroundings are just breathtaking. Make sure to spare some time for visiting Toffia, because this town is absolutely enchanting! During our stay there was pretty much work to do in the garden, but our hosts were ready to adjust the work that needed to be done to the conditions at that time - some work at home, some in the garden. Plus, the pets and the sheep are truly lovely, and even if it took some time for cats to get used to us, in the end they were even more cuddly than dogs! This was the best first workaway experience I could have asked for. The house has undeniably the best view in all of Italy and I fell in love immediately with the surrounding nature. … read more that it was my home too. Each morning I'd wake on my own schedule to the breathtaking view of Toffia and the mountains. Throughout the day, depending on the weather, I would work on tasks which Emmanuela and I had chosen together to compliment my skill set. These included sewing and mending clothes, weeding and mowing the grass and garden, and cleaning the tool shed. The work was easy and enjoyable because of the stunning location and more importantly because I was fueled daily by Emmanuela's gourmet vegan cooking. Her inspired, creative, healthy, and delicious meals are a reason alone to choose this Workaway. Roberto was also extremely kind and welcoming but I only saw him for a few days since he was away working at another farmhouse. I enjoyed walking and jogging the trails around the area. I explored the old town of Toffia which was exuisite and spent my day off at the Abbey nearby. It really is a magical kingdom with sounds of birds, bees, dogs barking, and church bells. Lastly, Emmanuela imparted her wisdom on me slowly and but surely. Wisdom about life, the land, purpose, relationships, time, and ofcourse permaculture. I hope I can hold the things I learned close to my heart and carry them with me. She is a wonderful person and a wonderful teacher. I'm so grateful that Toffia was the capstone to my four months adventure. It was the sweetest and most perfect end. A place for reflection, joy, sharing, and peace. Fulfilling in every way, fulfilling spiritually and physically nourishing. I can't recommend this Workaway more! I hope our paths cross again. I will be dreaming of Toffia.

… read more trees and grassy hills. Her place was so full of life and love, given to and from the plants. Her pets bring such joy to the household and some of them liked to keep us company while working! We spent most of our work time outside and in the garden. We strung some olive branches together with twine and made bundles strong enough to make garden arches and shade for the plants! There was also plenty of pulling and trimming in the surrounding grass/garden areas to keep us busy. Every meal we had was incredible! they joked that it was not traditional Italian(mostly vegan) but we still loooved it! Emanuela and Roberto are both amazing cooks and taught us so much in the kitchen! We were lucky enough to have a whole lesson on making gnocchi with Roberto:) Very fun and delicious activity. Overall we couldn’t have asked for a better stay. This place and these people will always remain very dear to our hearts.

Working hours were more than fair. I mainly prepared the ground before the coming planting season (weeding and covering it with cardboard and hay). From their garden, you have a very nice view on the charming medieval village of Toffia. I kinda fell in love with it!
I'm grateful for the opportunity I had to speak only italian during my stay. Emanuela was patient with my italian and corrected my mistakes, which I really appreciated. It's really interesting to talk with her about pedagogy (she's really passionate!), agricultural practices, and the permaculture philosophy. I liked the importance she gave to treat also the "weedy" plants gently, with respect, as a way to recognise what they have brought to the earth <3 Also I was impressed with everything she setted up in her daily life to consume local and products with low impact on the environment. Quite inspiring.
Roberto was often away for work the period I was there, so I didn't got to know him very well, but he is for sure a really kind person, and it was a pleasure hearing him playing some Ludovico Einaudi on the piano :D
What else can I had? The room is comfortable. For digital nomad, the wifi is good and you have a desk in the room.
The food they prepare is really good and healthy. Plus always cakes or good bread for the morning!
Also Emanuela was always offering me to join them when they were going out.

… read more spending lots of stunningly peaceful mornings (and a couple of very enjoyable evenings together) in the garden, before then starting to construct little “green houses” built out of wooden boxes on rolls with old windows as covers. At the end we started a bigger project - channeling the storage rooms outside into proper useful places with shelves/closets to actually store things safely. Because of lack of time I was unfortunately only able to build one frame with little doors. In between I helped in the kitchen with providing prickled zucchinis, homemade apricot juice and rocket pesto. Emanuela (and Roberto when free) took me to some cute typical little events nearby at the weekends that I really enjoyed, she always cooked amazing vegan food, we had lots of brunches and long deep conversations.
The two of them made me experience a mindful yet exciting time close to nature and people who know how to lovingly take care of it, I learned so many things and I’m really grateful for this possibility of cultural and personal exchange.
