We are a family starting a homestead in eastern Finland. We bought this old log house with some land in 2022. Our aim is to have a vegetable garden and some animals. In 2024 we will install a green house and develop the vegetable garden further. As we had a new baby in January 2024, we also appreciate help with cooking and other basic household tasks.
Our property is by a river, so there is nice opportunities for refreshing, swimming, kayaking and having sauna.
Julien is from Switzerland and his native language is French. He is at the moment working full time. Niina is Finnish. She is at home with the children. Our home language is French but we both speak fluent English. Our older daughter turns 3 years this summer and is eagerly learning something new all the time. The younger daughter born in January is focusing on eating and growing fast.

You would be part of our everyday life during your stay. It is partly very typically Finnish, like having a sauna and dipping in the river. Partly maybe less typically Finnish, like enjoying a good discussion around the dinner table.
We have quite some experience with gardening from the previous places we have lived at. In this new place, we are learning the ways that suits best this piece of land. This all we'll happily share with you.

You would be helping with either gardening, renovation or cooking and other household tasks, depending on what we are working with while you are here, and also depending on your skills and interests.

You will have your own room in our house. We share kitchen and bathroom.
We are happy to have meals together with you but if you would prefer to cook for yourself, it can be done so too. Our diet is omnivorous.

Our house is about 5km from the centre of a tiny town Polvijärvi. There you'll find a grocery store, pub, pizzeria and a café. You can borrow a bike to get there.
The bigger town Joensuu is in 40km. There are a few buses per day to get there. Julien works in Joensuu and you can get a ride from him on his workdays.
You can use our kayak (1 person model) for paddling on the river.
The Koli National park is about 50km distance from us. There are lots of hiking trails.
