We live on a hectare of rural land, however it's also close to Kerikeri in the beautiful Bay of Islands, New Zealand. We have a few free ranging chickens, ducks and guinea fowl and spray-free vegetable gardens & fruit trees. Our neighbours are farms with sheep & cows. The property backs onto native forest and kiwis can sometimes be heard at night in the valley below. There is no light pollution here so the stars at night are very bright and clear, as is the air. We are retired, so mostly at home.

We have both travelled extensively, and some of our best experiences have been visiting people's homes abroad. We're therefore keen to "return the favour" and host travellers who'd like to experience the Kiwi lifestyle, rather than just the adrenaline activities and tourist sights.
Ayuda
We could do with some gardening help, mainly weeding though sometimes it might be shovelling compost into vegetable beds or lawn mowing etc. There are general wet day activities like indoor cleaning etc. We're flexible about days/hours worked as previous helpers have sometimes opted for some full days to maximise their free time.

Ideally you would need your own transport, as we're 15 minutes out of central Kerikeri, and 8 minutes drive to the nearest shops at Waipapa. The Far North region of New Zealand has many wonderful sights and experiences, all are accessible from here within a few hours maximum and some, like the huge kauri tees at Puketi Forest & the waterfalls of Kerikeri, are just 15 minutes away. But you may just want to relax and admire the views out to the ocean, and the sound of birdsong.

We have hard standing for up to 6m vehicles only and a caravan plug socket. Waste must be dumped offsite (unfortunately the closest free council waste dump is 30 minutes away in Kawakawa) as we use a septic tank.

Their English is superb, and they are outgoing and were happy to share their experiences and background with us.
Mostly they worked in our garden, and did some indoor cleaning. They had great attention to detail (e.g.… read more
