  🐾 About Me & Shadow 🐾
  
  Hi! I’m Yasmine — a former teacher, now working full-time in tech. I brought my sweet cat Shadow from Toronto to Berlin. I’ve raised him since he was 8 weeks old and he’s been with me through thick and thin for over a decade. 😻
  
  Shadow was born in 2013 and is now a senior cat. He has chronic kidney disease (CKD) and pancreatitis, which can cause pain, nausea, and loss of appetite. When he’s not feeling unwell, he’s very affectionate, playful, and vocal — he responds to his name and loves cuddles.

  🧚‍♀️ Who I’m Looking For
  
  Please feel free to apply if you:
  ✔️ Are 1 (or max 2) quiet, respectful person(s)
  ✔️ Do not smoke or party at home
  ✔️ Are clean, tidy, and treat my apartment as your own
  ✔️ Will not bring any visitors — this is very important for Shadow’s well-being and for the safety of my home
  ✔️ Will not come home drunk or hungover — a previous sitter did this and sadly neglected Shadow’s care which caused us several problems and complexities 😿
  ✔️ Have experience caring for senior or chronically ill cats, especially with CKD
  ✔️ Are patient, calm, and comfortable with giving basic medication (oral pill)
  ✔️ Can gently encourage a picky eater and feed Shadow a few portions of wet food throughout the day
  ✔️ Are happy to brush him properly daily and scoop his litter once a day
  ✔️ Are happy to send daily updates with photos/videos, and spend time keeping him company while I’m away
  ✔️ Can provide references if you have no reviews yet on Workaway
  ✔️ Are available for a short video call to see if we’re a good fit
  ✔️ Are willing to provide a copy of your passport before or upon arrival.

  🐱 What Shadow Needs
  
  Shadow requires a calm, attentive person who can:
  • Feed him wet food in small portions 2–3 times per day
  • Be patient if he walks away from food and gently encourage him
  • Change his water daily
  • Brush him once per day to prevent hairballs and keep him healthy
  • Give a small pill once a day if needed (for nausea or discomfort)
  • Clean his litter box daily and dispose of waste responsibly
  • Spend quality time with him — he really needs emotional comfort while I’m gone
  • Let me know if there are any issues and send me regular updates
  
  He is a gentle, emotional, and loving cat who just needs some extra care and attention while I’m away. He’s not a high-energy or demanding cat, but he needs someone who will really be present with him and has patience and experience with senior cats with chronic illnesses.

  🏡 About the Apartment
  • Located in a trendy area of Berlin near the Spree River, Treptower Park, and lots of restaurants, cafés, and shops
  • You’ll stay on a sofa bed with a new double mattress in the living room
  • The apartment will be cleaned before your stay; please return it in the same condition
  
  There’s also a small security camera in the hallway, near the door — only for safety. It does not face the sleeping area.

  ✨ Final Notes
  
  Unfortunately, I can’t offer meals or accept volunteers while I’m home. This is a short-term stay while I’m away, in exchange for caring for Shadow.
  
  However, the apartment is spacious, peaceful, and in a fantastic neighborhood. Normally it would cost a lot to rent, so I hope it’s a fair and pleasant exchange. 💛

  You can stay at my large, modern apartment which is very close to restaurants, clubs, public transport, Ostkreuz station, and Spree river :)

  🔺You must be a genuine cat lover annd have experience with senior cats with chronic diseases - ideally CKD !
  🔺You must be able to communicate fluently in English, Persian, Spanish, or German. This is very important!
  
  We are looking for volunteers who are ideally over 21 years of age and have had experience with senior cats / cats with special needs before.
  
  Daily tasks include:
  🔺 feeding wet food 2-4 times a day with patience and make sure he eats (I’ll discuss this more in the next steps),
  🔺 brushing my cat daily to get a good amount of fur off,
  🔺 changing his litter,
  🔺 providing attention, cuddles, companionship, and a relaxing environment for him away from noise and excitement,
  🔺 if necessary, giving him medication (pill or capsule) gently,
  🔺 updating twice daily with photos and/or videos of Shadow and his eating (e.g. day and night)
  🔺 cleaning after yourself
  🔺 tidying up the apartment
