I stayed for two weeks with Mike and Darcie in their lovely farm in the middle of nowhere. It was an excellent time: Mike and Darcie are honest with their expectations, as well as patient and funny; Ned was polite and charming; baby Rosa was delightful and very generous; and Rebel was outstanding.
The work was physical, and at times challenging,

It was mostly outdoors, although there was plenty of stuff to do indoors when the rain was too fierce, and comprised a general mixture of gardening, maintenance (in a very broad sense), and animal care (cows during my stay). This last was particularly enjoyable, even for someone, like me, with little prior experience of animals.
I had a pleasant space within the house, and a lot of choice concerning the hours that I worked. I was always offered a lift to different places on my days off. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, even in the rain, although we got quite a bit of sun while I was there.
A very enjoyable experience.

I had a great time staying with Mike, Darcie, Ned and Rosa on their wee farm. There was plenty of work to do and there was a lot of variety in the tasks that I was asked to help with. Every day I'd clean the cow shed and feed the cows, and then I would either be helping with house work, preparing meals, playing with Rosa, gardening or assisting

On my days off I was always offered a ride somewhere so that I could really make the most of the time off and I was always welcomed to join any family activities so I got to experience some great cultural and community activities as well as come along to Mikes music sessions at the local pub.
As for the food and accomodation, I had a lovely comfortable room with double bed and the food was absolutely incredible! Both Mike and Darcie are fantastic cooks, and if the food isn't home reared/grown it's most likely sourced very locally. So you can expect to eat very well as the reward for your days work :) Thanks again guys for the lovely time together!!

I only stayed a week at Darcie and Mike’s place and it was amazing! They are really friendly and welcoming. Ned and baby Rosa are such lovely kids, and I had good times chatting about football with Ned.
The work was not difficult. I did help mostly in the garden and in feeding the animals, but I did a bit of everything. Mike was kind enough to

Max and Lydia rolled into our yard on their bikes, having cycled to Ireland from Morocco, so we knew straightaway that we had some tenacious customers on our hands.
They were really pleasant to have around the house, curious and chatty, and kept their own space too.
We got loads done when they were here, nothing was too much of an ask, they have
… read more a real can-do attitude. They approached their work with care and attention to detail but also worked with speed to get stuff done.
They were really kind to our kids and I’d recommend them for any family setup.
All in all 10/10 would recommend!
Mike, Darcie, Ned and baby Rosa gave us a genuine and extremely enjoyable experience on the farm. We stayed for nearly 6 weeks and found it difficult to leave indeed. The food we ate was exceptional, home cooked and better than anything else we had whilst travelling in Ireland for one month prior.
We fed the animals, walked Elsie and rebel (the
… read more dogs), baked tasty bread, tended to the vegetable tunnel, learnt to make cheese by hand!, sealed the front of the house painting, cut and chopped firewood, ploughed next season's potato patch, whippersnipping, cleaned up rooms, did a tip run and cooked some meals from the garden.
We "worked" five hours a day but it felt more like achieving projects together than obligations.
The family value food and we always ate dinner together which we loved.
Communication always open and honest.
We climbed a local mountain and swam at a nearby lake. The valley they live in is stunning. There is loads of local nature to explore but Darcie kindly took us into town a few times to see markets /have a pint/watch local Irish football.
Ned is a brilliant kid, very intelligent and kind right from the beginning. We played card games, soccer, went on goat walks and brought him around to cricket maybe 😉.
Baby Rosa is the cutest and least fussy baby you will meet. Simply adorable. Always happy and we didn't lose a wink of sleep !
Thanks for having us guys. Until next time 🤞

We've spend an unforgettable July at the lost valley farm with a lovely family.
This whole month our main duties were:
-Feeding and taking care of the animals (4 pigs, 3 cows, 2 calves and chicken), moving fences, harvesting eggs, cleaning the cowshed, etc.
-Walking the dogs through an amazing path to the top of the hills.
-Lots of weeding,
… read more planting seeds, maintaining the polytunnel, digging waterpaths for the rain and other tasks in the garden.
-We also help making cheese on a very artesanal way.
-Reforming the old house paiting the walls with lime and sanding the floors and some other general DIY and building projects.
We've also helped with house and kitchen cleaning.
Darcie and Mike were cooking delicious dishes and made bread. Some days we've cooked spanish dishes for the 5 of us. (we learned how they make their tasty daily bread).
It was fun to spend time with Ned as well, we get to play soccer, watched Harry Potter movies and singing songs.
We've had a good experience with baby Rosa and we've had great sleep nights.
Thank you all for this good time. We've really enjoyed it :)

It's a lovely family. They are very respectful of the planned work, they explain well what needs to be done and the work is not difficult. We learned a lot of very interesting things. Darcie and Mike cook very well and please whenever they can. Ned is a really nice guy, very respectful and polite. Thank you very much for such a rewarding week.

A very relaxing, quiet place to be, I had a very good time there. Mike, Darcy and Ned were very kind to me, they were incredibly helpful with everything. I had the chance to be with them for a bit longer than one month, I just learned quite a lot new skills, e.g. gardening, painting, maintenance around the house, animal care, and practigin english
… read more of course. We have had interesting, funny and sometimes serious conversations about serious topics wat the dinner table every night. I had the chance to play Mike's amaizing guitar, which I won't ever forget! :) I could not ask for more, I had warm bed to sleep in, washing machine was available, and the trips to Cork city were just amazing! If someone loves nature, this is the perfect place to spend time. And I must also mention, walking the dogs were probably my favorite with Rebel & Elsie. I can only recommend them!Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

Patrick was a considerate and thoughtful workawayer who showed great interest in everything we do here. He only stayed ten days but got stuck in to the work and was up and cleaning out the cow shed before breakfast which was great! He was tidy and clean around the house and was generally helpful and enthusiastic and good company.

A bountiful adventure into the wilderness of the stony lands of west county Cork.
Surrounding the property are grazing fields for sheep and cows, which is somewhere between domesticated and wilderness. It is well worth the visit to take in the scenery, even though cold, windy, wet, and desolate!
The home was warm and cozy.
Mike, Darcy, and Ned
… read more were very quickly more like family/friends than hosts.
Food and ingredients for cooking were amply available. The milk from the cows was absolutely delicious!
While there for 10 days, we managed to:
+ Make 3 types of cheese
+ Bake sourdough and traditional Irish soda breads
+ Went for a hike to a large pristine lake during a winter snowstorm
+ Played make-believe bus driver at the dinner table
+ Installed the legs for the polytunnel
The above was a mix of work and fun, check out this exhaustive list for other tasks during my time there:
> Daily mucking out of the barn (plowing shit and cleaning floors)
> Feeding grains to calves and goats
> Weeding and tilling a garden bed
> Childminding
> Cleaning up in the kitchen
> Strategising how to build the polytunnel
> Walking the dogs
> Building fires
> Eating homemade bread, homemade butter, homemade jams, beets and winter hardy greens from the garden, homemade cheese, a big yummy ham from the small-holding's slaughter, fresh baked scones with tea+jam+soured cream, fine coffee, homemade mysost, fresh milk, cultured cream, yogurt, biscuits, lemon cake
> Helping to care for the sick or dying calves
> Attending a local bee community meeting with 2 lectures
Some more about living there:
< Quiet dark nights
< A bed warmed with hot water bottles and a radiator for the room
< Borrowed working clothes and farming boots
< Laundry available (used once)
< No noise before 7 am (and quite quiet until 9 or so)
< Jolly conversations at the dinner table
< Vinyl record music (most of the time it was without music in the house)
< Both Mike and Darcy play music, Darcy is learning on the Banjo which was a joy to experience, and Mike used to be an orchestra singer so he's got quite the pipes on 'im!
All in all, highly recommended and those who arrive should be lucky to live the experience in the countryside.
Thanks to you both and to Ned for his entertainment and companionship. From the first moments I met him I knew he was special and highly intelligent. The first words I remember him saying were: "Daddy, how come we're going home this way?" --> he knew where we were and that we were heading a different way than how they came to meet me. I was impressed, and continued to be throughout my stay. At times he was a 3-years of age child, tamtrum and all that, but he calmed down quickly.
I felt a member of the family, and also that I had privacy and space when I needed it.Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.
