Update 15‑3‑26:
We’re hoping to host one or two Workawayers for 1–3 weeks in April (possibly into May). Most of the help will be in the vegetable garden — planting, weeding, that sort of thing — plus looking after the animals. It would be great if you enjoy spending time with kids too, because ours love having new people around. We’re also looking for someone who feels comfortable being independent, since there will be one or two weekends where you’ll be looking after the place while we’re away. Also being fluent in English (or Dutch) is a requirement for us. We have a busy household and communication and understanding each other is key to us, both in a family environment, as well as when we would be leaving you with instructions for tasks when we are not around.
Hi! We’re a family of four living on a small piece of land in the countryside. It’s just the two of us and our kids, Louie (5) and Flora (2). Over the last few years we’ve been trying to build a life that’s a bit slower and more connected to nature. We follow permaculture ideas where we can, and we’re always learning as we go.
Before settling here, we spent a few years doing Workaway ourselves (2022–2025). We stayed at several rural places and learned a lot from the people who hosted us. Now that we have our own little homestead, we’d love to offer the same experience to others who enjoy being outdoors, getting their hands dirty, and being part of daily life here.
What life here is like
We have a vegetable garden and a bunch of chickens and ducks. Depending on the season, we’re planting, harvesting, or preserving food. If you like being involved in that kind of thing, you’ll fit right in.
With two young kids, the house is rarely quiet. They love meeting new people and joining in whatever we’re doing. We both work four days a week (sometimes from home, sometimes at the office), and the kids go to school/daycare, so you’ll also have plenty of time to yourself. Just so you know: we’re not around every moment of the day.
Even though we live in the countryside, it’s easy to get around. You can bike to Amsterdam in a bit over an hour, or cycle 20 minutes to catch public transport to pretty much anywhere.
There’s always something happening outside — gardening, small building projects, fixing things, or fun ideas like making a beanstalk tent for the kids. We spend most of our free time outdoors working on the place.

When you stay with us, there are a few things you can look forward to:
You’ll get a real feel for what it’s like to grow your own food, look after animals, and slowly shape a place to work more in harmony with nature. We’re happy to share what we’ve learned so far. Just to be clear: we’re not fully off‑grid, and we don’t expect to be anytime soon — we’re simply trying to make small, steady steps.
You’ll be joining the daily rhythm of a young family, with all the chaos and fun that comes with it. We juggle work, kids, and our projects on the land, and we enjoy hearing about other people’s backgrounds and experiences too.
We cook simple, homegrown vegetarian meals and love sharing them with others. If you enjoy cooking, we’d be excited to try dishes from your home country as well. Cooking together usually leads to the best conversations.
Even though we live in the countryside, it’s easy to get out and explore. Amsterdam and other cities are close enough for day trips. We’re happy to point you toward nice places nearby — quiet nature areas, small villages, and other things you might not find in the guidebooks.

Ayuda
We’re looking for Workawayers who enjoy getting stuck in and don’t mind a bit of dirt under their nails. The help we need is pretty varied, but here’s the kind of things you can expect to do:
Gardening and growing food
There’s always something happening in the vegetable garden — planting, weeding, watering, or picking whatever is ready. We’re trying to grow more of our own food each year, so anyone who likes gardening (or wants to learn) is very welcome.
Looking after the animals
We have chickens and ducks that need feeding, clean water, and a bit of attention. Collecting eggs is part of the daily routine too.
General outdoor help
Keeping the place tidy, helping with small tasks around the property, and just giving a hand where it’s needed.
Being around the kids
If you enjoy spending time with children, Louie and Flora will be thrilled. They love having someone new to play with or explore the garden with. We’re not asking for babysitting — just someone who doesn’t mind being part of family life.
DIY and small creative projects
We often have little projects going on — fixing things, creating simple small structures, or reusing materials for something creative. If you like helping with your hands, you’ll probably enjoy this part. And just to be clear: anything that requires a professional, we hire one. We don’t expect volunteers to replace skilled trades.
One thing to mention: we’re a busy household, so a lot of the tasks will be done independently. We really appreciate people who can take initiative and feel comfortable helping on their own. The tasks are flexible, and we’ll always try to match them to what you feel good doing. Enthusiasm matters more to us than experience.

Alojamiento
We want Workawayers to feel relaxed and at home while staying with us, so here’s a bit about the setup.
You’ll have a private bedroom with a double bed, and a small bathroom with a shower that’s just for you. The room is next to our living room and kitchen, which is where we usually hang out, cook (we eat vegetarian), and chat at the end of the day.
Our place is very much a work in progress, but the land already has a vegetable garden, two greenhouses, a small orchard, a treehouse, a little patch of forest, and even a tiny lake. The area around us is mostly farmland and open fields. It’s very flat here — no hills or big forests in this part of the Netherlands — but it has its own charm.
Campervan or tent option
If you prefer bringing your own space, that’s totally fine. We have a spot where campervans can park, and if you’d rather sleep in a tent, you can pick a place in the garden that you like.
