Hello and thank you for looking at our profile.
We are a charity based between Chard, Axminster and Crewkerne (Somerset/Devon/Dorset border, UK). Our farm is a 132 acre organic educational and therapeutic centre that welcomes over 4,000 visitors of all ages and abilitiesfor day visits and residential visits. For the last 30 years we have worked with visitors using nature and the farming environment as our resource; it is fun, inspirational and innovative.
There are 19 staff here, some of whom live on the farm. We've got fruit and vegetable gardens, a river, woodlands and lots of animals! Chickens, goats, pigs, a horse and an increasing amount of wildlife as we are rewilding the farm!
We require volunteers who are highly motivated and enjoy working. You need to be pro-active, positive and resilient. What you put in, you will get back! You will love it!

We will teach volunteers basic animal care, seasonal horticultural skills and improve their knowledge in organic vegetable growing. Volunteers may have the opportunity to join different lessons that we teach on the farm, such as Hands on Farming, Survival in the Wild and River Dipping, in order to get an overview of our outdoor education programme. If appropriate, there may also be the opportunity to shadow our Care farming groups and educational groups, in your own time.
Volunteers will experience country living and rural village life. It's a beautiful, quiet farm that is near the stunning world heritage site of the Jurassic Coast (Lyme Regis is our local beach, 13 miles away).
We request that your standard of English is good and that you have some expereince in horticulture or conservation or animal care or can use tools!
You will get a fabulous experience and know that you are helping an incredibly worthwhile charity at the same time.
Please do not apply if your English is not good or you do not have experience that is relevant to the place. Many thanks and we wish you success.
We need residential volunteers to help out at the charity. We are a varied place and we need help with growing vegetables for all of our visitors, looking after our fam animals and with conservation - we are rewilding! There are day to day jobs of watering, picking, sowing, putting the hens to bed etc but also projects such as raised-bed building and revamping areas. We always have the need for help with conservation and construction such as building wooden bridges and animal housing. There's always plenty of work to be done and plenty of diversity!
In exchange for your help we provide an en-suite bedroom (twin) and shared living room and all of your food... and the food is delicious - mainly home-grown or local and organic. :) Be prepared to eat plenty of cake and increase in size!

In exchange for your help we provide an en-suite bedroom. We have 2 twin bedrooms, both en-suite, and shared living room and all of your food while you are on site. Bedrooms are allocated by staff. The food is home cooked and we use as much as possible from the organic farm including vegetables, fruit, eggs and meat. Food that we do not grow we source as locally as possibly and have strict animal welfare standards. We are able to accommodate any dietary requirements with advance notice. If you're here in the summer, house martins will be your neighbours, outside your window under the eaves of the building.
We have bicycles so if you don't have your own transport you can get around. There is also a bus service. Apart from the beautiful walks from the farm to local villages, (with shops, pubs, swimming pools and churches) there are also places of interest such as Forde Abbey (an old monastery with beautiful gardens) and Lambert's Castle (a hill fort). There is also the Jurassic coast nearby with amazing views, fossils to find and gorgeous food shops, plenty of opportunity to walk, find a memento and absorb the culture of this beautiful part of the country.
As we are in a rural setting and not a community you will need to be fairly self-sufficient and being sociable is really important too. We have lots of different people at the farm and some of us live here so there might be opportunities to join in with social events but please do not expect this.
We are a charity that is respectful of the environment and each other, which we expect from our volunteers. We enjoy working hard and laughing too!
