Descripción
¡Hola! We are a Mexican-American couple living off-grid in a village northwest of Oaxaca City. Alex grew up in the city center and Suzanne is a transplant who spent most of her life in Alaska. Our homestead - a little oasis - is a work in progress. We have 16 rescue dogs, 2 cats and 8 chickens to keep us company. Alex loves to cook and bake and is working on developing a small food business. Suzanne is a teacher, animal lover and happy homemaker. We welcome the opportunity to learn from others and share our experience of living in Guadalupe Etla.

A stay at the ranch will give you the opportunity to practice your Spanish and/or English, learn about life in a traditional farming village, play with the dogs, relax in a hammock under a tree, and explore areas outside of Oaxaca City.

Alojamiento
You will have your own room in our house. There is a kitchen in the choza, and the outhouse is just a few steps away (our house is still under construction). We have solar power and our internet is really good! Life in Mexico can be noisy, especially around here with barking dogs, fireworks, music, and farmers working in the fields. Earplugs can be helpful for a good night’s sleep!
In exchange for 4 hours of work a day, we are happy to provide basic food like bread and coffee, beans and rice, eggs from our chickens and anything else we harvest. For anything beyond the basics, you have full use of the kitchen and there are plenty of little stores and markets nearby. We love sharing what we produce on the land and hope to increase our options with your help! -
Algo más...
It is an easy 45-minute commute from our village into the city on a bus or in a collectivo. There is also a lot to see here in the Valle Eteco including archeological zones, a community museum, a beautifully restored textile factory turned art center, a great regional market, churches, an ecological education center, festivals and celebrations, and all kinds of interesting people doing interesting things.
