Descripción
We are a family of five living on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island. We live in the small town Gold River, which in our minds is in one of the most beautiful areas in the world. I am a gym teacher at the Secondary School and my husband is a environmental engineer. Our kids are 21, 19, and 8 years old. The two older children are at university and Tristan the 8 years old, is a lot of fun and of course energetic. He easily befriends people.
We like to think of ourselves as an adventurous family and love to travel and explore. Several years ago we all went on a seven month backpacking trip around South America. We enjoy meeting new people and thought this would be a good opportunity to share our area with others. Some of our best moments while traveling were when a local person took us in and shared their area with us. We also spend a lot of our time exploring our area. We are very active and love to do many outdoor activities.
Gold River is an amazing place to visit if you like the outdoors. The outdoor activities are endless, all withing 30 minutes drive from our house. These include rock climbing, caving, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, sailing, and much more. Strathcona Provincial Park is close to our house and is great for hiking.
Our town is very small with a population of 1,200 people. The next closest town is an hour drive away. There is no public transport so we will have to pick you up in Campbell River which is one and half hours away. Although the town is small we do have quite a few things to do. We have a few good restaurants/ cafes and we are lucky to have an amazing aquatic center with a large pool, hot tub, gym, and squash courts. There is also a skating rink which has public skating once a week. This is only a five minute walk from our house. We spend a lot of time there in the winter.
We require a person to help us with Tristan. This may include being responsible for him when either of us are at work. We also like to see what skills a person has to share. So if a person loves to cook this can be part of their duties.

They may be able to go on some hiking or kayak trips with us weather and time permitting. We will certainly assit them in accessing the outdoors.

We are looking for one person (sorry not enough space or work for a couple) who wants to explore a new area and meet new people. On the working front, we really want someone to pitch in and help with a variety of jobs. Taking our youngest son to and from school would be useful. We are easy going and if you have certain skills to share we would love to accommodate this. We would also love to learn more about where you are from. If you cook, play music, garden, are artistic, can help do general maintenance around the house, teach us your language, or anything else, we would love for you to share your skills with us.
We would prefer a three week to four week commitment and longer if it all works out. Please check the calendar for availability before you apply. Thanks!

You will have your own bedroom with a double bed and a shared bathroom. We have a 2,000 square foot house which backs on to a river with a beautiful trail. Everything is within walking distance in our town so you will have access to the shops and recreation center.

We are excited to host someone and you will be treated as a member of our family. You can explore on your own or do trips with the family. We are doing outdoor activities regularly and would include the person in these activities if they wanted. If you like being physically active, there is plenty to do on our doorstep.

Although it was a short stay I loved every second. Mick and Kath are wonderful and very keen on learning more about you, they took me in like family which is more than I could ask for. Tristan is a bundle of energy and fun to look after. The work they ask from you is never too much… read more
