  Our hostel for independent travellers is situated near Varanasi’s main train station. Varanasi: The world's oldest living and one of the most famous cities in India. Our hostel was opened in January 2013 to become the first travellers' hostel in northern India.
  
  We are all open-minded, fun loving people, who enjoy meeting new people from all over the world, talking and exchanging experiences and ideas. Being travellers ourselves, we made our passion our profession and see hosting people as a way of inviting the world into our house, for times we are not able to travel ourselves.

  If you are a traveller simply looking for free accommodation, unfortunately we cannot help you with that. Please respect the motive of Workaway and our business.
  
  In return for your work, we will offer you a great time meeting new people almost every day, interesting conversations and common activities. Further, you will experience the Indian family life, celebrate Indian festivals with the family and learn traditions. If you want to learn Hindi, this is a perfect way to practice. We will open our home and heart for you and include you in our everyday life!

  Current preferred volunteer profiles: None really, as you can imagine. If you are a fantastic blogger/influencer with a (genuine) fan-following of more than 25k on Instagram or a successful blog website, then we might be interested in discussing an opportunity.
  
  Typically we are interested in Musicians (who could host small-scale live music shows) and Photographers (to photograph our property for web use).
  
  This is not to say that other volunteers can't apply. See below for what our particular interests are:

  ART
  If you are talented in art, we can surely take your help in decorating walls and rooms.
  
  --
  GARDENING
  Someone who could help us start (and train our gardener) a vertical/rooftop garden would be highly appreciated. Our special interest is in growing basil, broccoli, lettuce (and other salad), cherry tomato and bell peppers.

  BLOGGING
  We are also managing a travel blog where we give people tips about Varanasi and the surroundings. We would like you to write a few articles there – high quality text and social media-ready pictures & videos–to share your Varanasi experience with future travellers. You should ideally have references to your existing work. This arrangement can be negotiated for lesser than 2 weeks' stay.

  CONSTRUCTION
  We currently have a huge problem with damp walls in parts of our rooms on the ground floor. Anybody who is somehow experienced with this and has the technical expertise on how to fix it, is very welcome!
  
  
  
  MINIMUM 2 WEEKS' COMMITMENT
  As Varanasi is a very intense place, you will need a good amount of time to settle in and get comfortable around here. Thus our preferred length of stay for you is at least 2 weeks.
  
  If you are artistically talented and can help us with decoration of walls, etc, less time will work out as well.
  
  The acceptance of your application will be based on your presumed commitment to help us out for at least a fortnight (unless agreed upon otherwise).
  
  If you're planning to request stay for 2-3 nights for 'General Help', please don't.
  
  
  
  In general, we expect you to be open-minded, interested in learning new things and be absolutely dedicated to your work promise. Excellent English is mandatory; more languages are an advantage. Punctuality and reliability, as well as discipline are core values for us.

  Alojamiento

  You will stay in our original hostel, in one of our dorms. This is also a great way for you to spend time with other travellers. Bathrooms are shared.
  
  Breakfast is included for you, but not lunch + dinner. Other than that you can of course use our well-equipped kitchen, or enjoy the delicious and famous street foods of Varanasi! We are a vegetarian family, so please understand that there will only be vegetarian food allowed (no egg either; and fish certainly isn't vegetarian!!).
  
  You will have free access to fast Wi-Fi (no bandwidth abuse please!!), washing machine and a computer apart from the above.

  Unlike other cities, the city of Varanasi itself is an attraction, that's why it is so famous among travellers (among top 5 most travelled cities in India). You can walk along the riverside of Ganga, take a boat trip on the river, and just enjoy experiencing the Indian lifestyle. Varanasi is famous for music, yoga classes and food, which are offered in many places. Or how about you start learning Hindi?
  
  A little shared tip about Varanasi is to visit Sarnath – a Buddhist pilgrimage site. It's just about 10 km north of Varanasi. There you can visit the various Buddhist temples, including the Bodhi Tree where Buddha gave his first sermon to his first 5 disciples. Sarnath is also known for the archaeological Buddhist remains as well as the museum showcasing the famous Ashoka Pillar.
  
  We're situated very close to Varanasi's main train station. Public transit is conveniently available to go around.
