🌏️ About us. 🗾
Hiro and his 4 roommates live in a very old house in Toshima Ward, Tokyo.
I (Hiro) am an IT engineer and have been renting the house for over 10 years.
My roommates are Chinese, Japanese, and Nepalis, including a queer woman.
They are a voice actor, an engineer, and a student. (so they are immigrant.)
They love anime, games, and music. Common language is Japanese for us.
Room sharing and coming out of the closet are uncommon in Japan.
🗻 Art project 🗼
My friend drew a mural, but there was still free space on the wall.
So I started to find artists to add their paintings to the wall on this site.
At least 20 people from all over the world have joined this art project so far.
We don't have any art skills. Offer the chance but not to join the project.
🥷 The neighborhood 👘
Two stations from Ikebukuro and thirty minutes from Shinjuku and Shibuya.
Very quiet residential area, but there are some restaurants and shops.
My house is very old and poorly ventilated, and it's in a natural area.
Not suitable for people with asthma or allergies to dust or animals.

Sake, Japanese rice wine, is more than just a popular drink.
It also plays an essential role in many aspects of Japanese tradition and culture.
I offer my proudly homemade umeshu, Japanese plum wine, to my guest.
If my roommates have time, we can do a party at home or go out to drink all night.
Japan invented QR codes and emoji but also created pop culture too.
(ex: anime, manga, cosplay, video games, karaoke and so on)
My roommates can share their knowledge of Japanese pop culture.
One of them knows how to play guitar and other instruments, as well as skateboard.
My roommate used to go to women's bars in Shinjuku Ni-chome, the gay district.
Now she doesn't have time to go there, but she can tell her recommendation bars.
Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy centered on finding beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and incompletion, appreciating the simple, rustic, and aged rather than the artificial or perfect. It is a vision that embraces the transient nature of life and the natural world, viewing flaws, such as cracks or wear, not negatively but as integral parts of an object's or experience's beauty and authenticity. However, understanding the concept correctly is challenging, as wabi-sabi is a word that’s difficult to articulate and grasp linguistically, relying more on a sensory understanding. You can feel these Japanese aesthetics in my old house.

We're looking for people who can draw a mural and help with cleaning.
I don't accept requests that don't answer the questions in my profile.
🍡 Duties & Responsibilities 🍢
Paint the mural in any common space, mostly the living room.
No theme for painting, but original or copyright-free characters only.
🍱 Selection criteria 🍣
Send me your artwork. Analog art and digital art are both ok.
It can be your website, Instagram, or a PDF of your portfolio.
It's fine to upload a photo of your artwork as your profile photo.

Not a request to have experience painting a mural or education in art.

We have enough space for multiple people but need only a little help.

🥢 Benefits and Conditions 🍚
You can do it whenever you want. We don't manage your schedule.
We have paint markers, acrylic paint, and paintbrushes.
If you need painting tools, I can buy them at the 100 yen shop.
Japanese style of painting uses paints made from crushed natural minerals.
If you prefer, you cam make paints from stones and plants instead of expensive jewels.
We prefer you stay at least more than one week, up to a few weeks.

Alojamiento
No stoic rule, no curfew. There are two accommodations.
Meals can be offered but depend on how much you work.

The warm tent with futon mattresses and blankets.
There are some storage spaces and a balcony.
An electric fan for cooling and an oil heater for heating.

A private room with an air conditioner and furniture.
Basically for temporary use (e.g., jet lag, sickness, etc.)
Please ask about the availability of the room if you prefer it.
