About Us
I'm Hiro, and I live with three roommates in Toshima Ward, Tokyo.
My roommates are Japanese and Nepali, including a queer woman.
They are an "aspiring" voice actor, student, and office worker.
Room sharing and coming out of the closet are uncommon in Japan.
I'm an IT engineer but not a programmer: an infrastructure engineer.
Art Project
A few years ago, my friend painted a black and white mural in my house.
I'm updating it by inviting volunteer artists from around the world.
They added color to the mural and also added a lot of paintings.
We don’t have any art skills and don’t participate or suggest designs.
The Neighborhood
Two stations from Ikebukuro and ~30 minutes from Shinjuku and Shibuya.
Quiet residential area with some restaurants and shops.
The house is old, poorly ventilated, and in a natural setting.
Not suitable for people with asthma or allergies to dust or animals. -

We have different lifestyles and are very busy most days.
I'm an IT engineer and work from home, busy on weekdays.
If you stay short-term, we may not have much time to meet with you.
While you’re staying with us, we’ll have a get-together at home with drinks.
My roommates are happy to share their knowledge of Japanese pop culture.
They play video games, guitar, skateboard, and cosplay (costume play of Anime characters)
One roommate used to visit women’s bars in Shinjuku Ni-chome (the gay district).
She doesn’t have time to go there now, but she’s happy to share her knowledge.
Offer food or information for food lovers and vegans, including unique meats, seafood, insects, and shojin cuisine, a traditional Japanese Buddhist vegetarian or vegan cuisine. -

One person is enough for it. Hence, we accept only one person anytime.

Duties & Responsibilities
Cleaning inside and outside of the house and mowing around the house.
I make homemade umeshu (Japanese plum wine) every year.
I mainly need help adjusting the taste of umeshu. We’ll compare the old and new umeshu, then adjust the taste as needed.
Paint a mural in a common area (such as the living room, corridor, etc.).
No theme for painting, but original or copyright-free characters only.
We're very busy, so we need helpers for cleaning more than painting.
We accept people who can't help the mural but can help with cleaning.
The amount of work: 99% cleaning and 1% adjusting umeshu, or 9% cleaning and 1% adjusting umeshu and 80% painting.
Selection Criteria
Submit examples of your artwork. Both analog and digital works are OK.
You may share your portfolio via a website, an Instagram account, or a PDF file.
You may also upload a photo of your artwork as your profile image.
Essential Qualifications
Artists, including professionals, hobbyists, and self-taught practitioners.
Previous experience in mural painting or formal art education is not required.
Benefits and Conditions
We don’t oversee or set your working schedule. Please manage it yourself.
We provide paint markers, acrylic paint, and paintbrushes for your use.

Alojamiento
No strict rules or curfews. There are two types of accommodations.
Meals may be provided, depending on the amount of work you do.
We prefer people who don’t use air conditioning or heaters frequently.

A tent with mattresses and blankets includes some storage space.
An electric fan and an oil heater are available for cooling and warmth.
The living room is also the passageway to the roommates’ rooms.
If the tent isn’t comfortable, we can arrange a private room.
