  We are two parents, two kids (7 and 10 years old) and the grandma living on our 12 hectare (small) organic family farm on the edge of a countryside village together with horses, sheep, chickens, cats and rabbits. The farm is situated about 40 km west of Kassel in the middle of Germany in a nice landscape with gentle hills. We produce vegetables, eggs, meat, grains for ourselves and 35 other families (our community). For a number of special tasks on the fields we use draft horses instead of our little tractor. You help us out on the farm with any kind of work. As a bonus, you could get (on request) a short introduction into communication with horses, baking bread or spinning wool. Living on our farm is countryside living with a good degree of self sufficiency.

  Wir sind zwei Eltern, zwei Kinder (7 und 10 Jahre alt) und die Oma, die auf einem 12 Hektar (kleinen) Bio-Bauernhof am Rande eines Dorfes wohnen, zusammen mit unseren Pferden, Schafen, Hühnern, Katzen und Kaninchen. Der Hof ist etwa 40 km westlich von Kassel in einer landschaftlich schönen, hügeligen Umgebung gelegen. Wir versorgen uns und 35 andere Familien (unsere SoLaWi-Mitglieder) mit Gemüse, Eiern, Fleisch, Getreide. Für eine Reihe von speziellen Arbeiten setzen wir Zugpferde an Stelle des kleinen Traktors ein. Du hilfst uns auf dem Hof mit allen möglichen Arbeiten. Als Bonus, kannst Du (auf Nachfrage) eine kleine Einführung in Themen wie Kommunikation mit Pferden, Brot backen und Wolle verspinnen haben. Leben auf unserem Hof ist Landleben mit einem guten Grad Selbstversorgung.

  Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

  Here you can gain hands-on impressions of the (often exciting and sometimes hard) work and the family life on a small, diverse farm. If you are proactive and stay long enough, we can provide you some basic experiences in traditional fields like sheep husbandry, processing of wool, processing of food or working with draft horses. In general farm work can yield many links to questions about nature and how we should deal with it. Maybe your view and esteem of small scale farming will change through this experience. Or maybe you are just looking for a place to ground yourself and clear your mind by working with plants and animals. We also have experience from the natural scientific academic world, from journalistic work at a workhorse magazine and newspaper, we play music (church organ, piano, folk-fiddle), we have traveled a lot and speak beside German and English also Dutch, Norwegian and some basic French. Since we started the farm several years ago we are more or less tied to this place, so we are happy that people now bring their stories and background to our home. After a long day at the (often late evening) dinner we love to discuss all kinds of interesting topics - maybe with a little glass of red wine...
  If possible we take our Workawayers to little excursions to nice and exciting places nearby.
  
  
  Hier kannst Du einen praktischen Eindruck von dem - meistens spannenden und manchmal harten - Arbeitsalltag und dem Familienleben auf einem kleinen, vielseitigen Bauernhof bekommen. Wenn Du Interesse und Eigeninitiative mitbringst und lang genug bleibst, können wir Dir kleine Einblicke in z.B. traditionelle Arbeitsfelder wie Schafhaltung, Wollverarbeitung, Lebensmittelverarbeitung oder den Einsatz von Arbeitspferden bieten. Generell ergeben sich durch die Arbeit auf dem Hof vielfältige Anknüpfungspunkte zum Lernen über Naturzusammenhänge und wie wir mit ihnen umgehen sollten. Vielleicht wird sich Deine Sicht und Wertschätzung von kleinbäuerlicher Arbeit dadurch verändern. Vielleicht bist Du auch einfach auf der Suche nach einem Ort, wo Du Dich durch praktische Arbeit mit Pflanzen und Tieren "erden" und den Kopf frei bekommen kannst. Wir haben darüberhinaus Erfahrungen aus der akademisch-naturwissenschaftlichen Welt, aus der journalistischen Arbeit in einem Magazin für Arbeitspferde und der Tageszeitung, im Musizieren (Klavier, Kirchenorgel, Folk-Fiddle), sind viel gereist und sprechen neben Deutsch und Englisch auch Niederländisch, Norwegisch und ein bisschen Französisch. Seit wir den Hof vor einigen Jahren übernommen haben, sind wir hier ziemlich angebunden, so dass wir uns um so mehr über Menschen freuen, die jetzt ihre Geschichten und Hintergründe zu uns nach Hause bringen. Nach getaner Arbeit diskutieren wir beim (oft etwas späteren) Abendessen gern über Gott und die Welt - vielleicht bei einem Gläschen Rotwein... Wenn sich die Gelegenheit bietet, nehmen wir unsere Workawayer mit zu kleinen Exkursionen zu spannenden Orten in der Umgebung.

  Ayuda

  Depending on the season you can take part in a variety of typical farm work tasks like vegetable growing, taking care of the animals (chicken, sheep, horses), preparing fire wood etc. Beside that a helping hand is always welcome in the household, with general maintenance and sitting the kids - also depending on what you like best or what you're good in. If you are skilled in wood work/carpentry it might also be of special interest since we always have some ongoing and new projects. - But no problem if you have not gathered experience with farm work yet! The only thing we expect you to bring is real interest for what we do and some (normal to good) degree of physical fitness and mental health. If you have a sincere interest in agriculture/nature/food and enjoy practical work (outside), this is the right place for you!
  With our non-German speaking volunteers we usually communicate in English, especially with regard to the working tasks. If you are not sure whether your English is good enough, please tell us about your concern.
  
  In the spring time, we plant and weed vegetables, make firewood and care for the farm animals, e.g. chicken coop cleaning and arranging pastures (electric fencing) for the sheep.
  
  Je nach Jahreszeit kannst Du an einer Vielzahl typischer landwirtschaftlicher Arbeiten teilnehmen in Bereichen wie Gemüsebau, Tierhaltung (Hühner, Schafe, Pferde), Brennholzbereitung etc. Willkommen ist Mithilfe darüberhinaus im Haushalt oder beim Bespaßen der Kinder - auch abhängig davon, was Du am liebsten machst und wo Deine Stärken liegen. Wenn Du Spaß hast an praktischer Arbeit draußen, wird es für Dich passen! Von besonderem Interesse ist es für uns auch, wenn Du geübt im Umgang mit Holz/Zimmermannsarbeiten bist, da wir hier immer kleinere und größere Projekte am laufen haben. - Aber kein Problem, wenn Du bisher noch keine Erfahrung mit landwirtschaftlichen Arbeiten gesammelt hast! Was wir voraussetzen, ist ein echtes Interesse an unseren Tätigkeitsfeldern und ein normales bis gutes Maß an körperlicher Fitness und geistiger Gesundheit. Wenn Du ernsthaftes Interesse hast an Landwirtschaft/Natur/Nahrungsmitteln und praktische Arbeit an der frischen Luft genießen kannst, ist hier der richtige Ort für Dich!
  
  Im Frühjahr pflanzen und jäten wir Gemüse, machen Brennholz und sorgen für unsere Tier, z.B. Abmisten des Hühnerstalls sowie das Umweiden der Schafe (Elektrozäune stecken).

  Alojamiento

  Simple single room with bed, table, chair, cupboard. WLAN for devices you bring yourself. Guest bathroom, shared with possible other guests. On request we supply bed-linen and towels. We have breakfast and warm dinner (mostly products from our farm) together with you in our cozy family kitchen. You take lunch for yourself from the farm kitchen fridge. We cook no vegan meals, sometimes vegetarian meals, sometimes meat.
  
  Einfaches Einzelzimmer mit Bett, Tisch, Stuhl, Schrank. WLAN für selbst mitgebrachte Geräte. Gästebad, geteilt mit eventuellen anderen Gästen. Auf Anfrage werden Bettwäsche und Handtücher gestellt. Frühstück und warmes Abendessen (oft mit Produkten von unserem Hof) essen wir gemeinsam mit Dir in der gemütlichen Familienküche. Zum Mittag nimmst Du Dir selbst Essen aus dem Kühlschrank unserer Hofküche. Wir kochen keine veganen Mahlzeiten, manchmal vegetarisch, manchmal mit Fleisch.

  Our area is characterised by smallscale agriculture and forest. In the village is a nice swimmingpool (open only during summertime). Furthermore two butchers, an inn, a church and a petrol station. The area is known for the nice traditional timber-frame houses. The next supermarket is a 7 km drive. We are happy to bring you stuff during our weekly shopping.
  In the neighbouring village there's an old castle ruin. The bicycle route Kassel-Edersee passes through our village. It's 10 minutes by car to the well-known Waldeck Castle with café and museum and Lake Edersee, 15 minutes to the Baroque castle Arolsen, 20 minutes to the town Korbach with musea etc., 30 minutes to national park Kellerwald-Edersee and 30 minutes to the city of Kassel (world cultural heritage Bergpark, theater, museums, Grimmwelt etc.).
  On your day off, we can take you, if there's time, for a little excursion, or drive you to the next bus stop for going to Kassel.
  
  Nordhessen ist kleinstrukturiert, ländlich, landwirtschaftlich geprägt und mit viel Wald. Bei uns gibt es ein schönes Freibad im Dorf (nur im Sommer geöffnet). Außerdem zwei Metzger, einen Gasthof, eine ev. Kirche und eine Tankstelle. Viele schöne Fachwerkhäuser. Der nächste Supermarkt ist 7 km entfernt. Wir bringen Dir beim Wocheneinkauf gerne was mit.
  Im Nachbardorf gibt es eine schöne Burgruine. Der Fahrradweg Kassel-Edersee führt durch unser Dorf. Es ist 10 Minuten mit dem Auto zum Waldecker Schloss mit Café und Museum sowie zum Edersee, 15 Minuten zum Arolser Barock-Schloss, 20 Minuten nach Korbach mit Museen etc., 30 Minuten zum Nationalpark Kellerwald-Edersee und 30 Minuten nach Kassel (Weltkulturerbe Bergpark, Staatstheater, Museen, Grimmwelt etc.).
  An Deinem freien Tag nehmen wir Dich gerne mal mit zu einem kleinen Ausflug oder setzen Dich an der nächsten Bushaltestelle in Richtung Kassel ab.

  If you come with your own camping vehicle, we can talk about the space you need and where it can be provided. The farm is not very big but should be big enough :)
