Then Our Little Paradise might be exactly the right place for you.

We are a small animal sanctuary in the Peloponnese, about 30 minutes from Kalamata. At the moment, 20 dogs and 26 cats live with us. Most of our animals are former strays. Many of them are old, sick, injured or disabled and would not have had a chance without help.

They have found their home with us and will stay here for the rest of their lives.

We also work closely with the local community and region, taking in stray dogs that are sick, injured or have been hit by cars and come to us after receiving veterinary care.

Three times a week, we also help at a cat shelter with around 50 cats.

So there is always something going on here and at the same time, our life is very peaceful.

We live in the middle of nature, surrounded by olive trees, hills and a lot of peace and quiet. No traffic noise, no hectic daily life and none of the constant stimulation that can be so exhausting in everyday life.

Our daily routine is largely shaped by the animals and by nature.

The day starts with work: taking care of the animals, cleaning, feeding, walking the dogs, looking after the cats and of course there are plenty of cuddles and strokes along the way.

There are the beautiful parts and there are the less glamorous ones. Dog poo is just as much a part of the job as cleaning litter boxes, dealing with animal hair, cleaning, taking out the rubbish and helping in the garden.

You can't have one without the other.

We usually work 4–5 hours a day. After that, you have plenty of time for yourself.

And that is one of the things that makes life here so enjoyable.

You can sleep in, have breakfast, take the bus to the beach, read, go for a walk, explore the area or simply sit somewhere and do nothing.

The beach is about 30 minutes away by bus.

Our life is not luxurious. It is genuinely simple.
But in return, it is peaceful, healthy and incredibly relaxing. A life with a natural rhythm, plenty of time outdoors and far less of the things that constantly occupy and stress us in everyday life.

Maybe this is exactly the kind of place where you can truly slow down while doing something meaningful at the same time.

Our dogs don't live in kennels. They live together in groups.
Some of them also live with us in the house, so there are always dogs around. In the kitchen, in the living room and if you want, you can even take a dog to bed with you.

Living this way creates its own dynamics, and you get the chance to really get to know the animals.

Especially if you stay for a longer period, you will quickly learn which dog needs what, who gets along with whom and who is always first at breakfast.

Our 26 cats live in their own cat house, and the volunteers' living area is located there as well.

For this reason, it is very important to us that you do not have a cat allergy. You will have a lot of contact with cats here, avoiding them is simply not really an option.

Three times a week, we also go to the cat shelter with its approximately 50 cats.

So if you love both dogs and cats, you're already off to a good start.

We are looking for reliable, independent people who genuinely like animals and are not afraid of the everyday work involved in caring for them.

You don't have to be an animal welfare professional, and you don't need years of experience with dogs and cats.

What matters to us is that you think for yourself, take responsibility, reliably get your tasks done and are willing to get involved even when nobody is standing next to you telling you what to do.

We welcome volunteers who want to stay for just a few weeks, as well as people who can imagine living with us for several months.

Long-term volunteers are very welcome. If you stay longer, you naturally become more independent and, after a while, you will know our animals and routines almost as well as we do.

And of course, you will still have plenty of time for your own life.

Volunteers aged 40+ are very welcome.

What you should bring with you above all is a love for animals, reliability, independence and the willingness to live simply.
Because this isn't about trying to experience as much as possible in the shortest amount of time.

It's about animals, nature, peace and a different kind of everyday life.

And perhaps that is exactly why it feels so good.

If you can imagine living this way for a while and helping our animals at the same time, we would love to hear from you.

Staying with us gives you a genuine insight into everyday animal welfare in Greece.

Our life revolves around the animals, and most of our friends are also actively involved in animal welfare. So you will meet people who care deeply about animals and experience a side of Greece that you won't find in the usual tourist destinations.

We live surrounded by nature, away from busy roads and cities. It is quiet here, and the pace of life is very different from what many people are used to.

If you are here during the winter months, you may also have the opportunity to experience the traditional olive harvest with some of our friends.

English is part of our everyday life, so if you want to improve or simply refresh your English, you will have plenty of opportunities to practise it naturally.

We are looking for Workawayers who are independent and think for themselves.

The work itself is not difficult. What matters to us is that you don't wait for a new instruction every time something needs to be done. Once you know your tasks, you should be able to see what needs doing and take care of it.

We want to be able to give you responsibility without having to constantly stand next to you and check everything.
Thinking for yourself is just as important to us as getting the work done.

Days off are organized independently among the Workawayers.

    With the dogs

There is always something to do: preparing food, feeding, picking up droppings, going for walks, brushing, bathing and grooming the dogs, cleaning the food kitchen and taking out the rubbish.

And of course, there are plenty of cuddles and strokes in between.

    With the cats

Our cats need plenty of attention too: feeding, cleaning litter boxes, keeping the cat house clean, taking out the rubbish and looking after the cat garden.

And yes, lots of cuddles are part of the job here too.

    Good with your hands?

If you enjoy DIY or are a real handyman, there is always something to do around the property.
Fences need repairing, trees need looking after and sometimes a water pipe needs to be laid or repaired. We are constantly working on maintaining and improving the property.

And of course, you are rarely alone while doing these jobs, some dog or cat will usually show up to make sure the cuddles don't get forgotten.

We have 8000sqm property, with fruit trees and ornamental trees.

The cat garden also needs regular care and attention.

So if you enjoy gardening, there is plenty for you to do, right in the middle of our animals, of course.

You may discover that gardening here sometimes requires both hands. One for the plants and one for the cat that has decided it is time to be cuddled.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

We have space for up to 4 Workawayers.

The Workawayers sleep in small bedrooms next to the food kitchen. The common area is located in the cat house, so you will be very much part of our daily life with the animals.

Since you live directly on the property, you can prepare your own meals. Cooking is not counted as working time.

We do the grocery shopping and provide basic food supplies. We are happy to take vegetarian, vegan and other dietary preferences into account.

We provide basic items such as bread, butter, pasta, rice, potatoes, legumes, oats, seasonal vegetables, apples, bananas, coffee, tea, jam, oil and spices.

If you would like additional foods such as meat, cold cuts, cheese or eggs, you are welcome to buy these yourself according to your personal preferences.

For anything extra, there is a supermarket about 10 minutes away on foot.
