We are an "retired teacher" couple with four adult children and two grandchildren who are all very much a part of our lives. We have been making maple syrup for 30+ years and have just recently expanded our maple operation. After having retired from a career in teaching we are making the best of retirement by staying active in the production of maple syrup. We enjoy travelling, have lived in Europe for a stint and like to connect with travelers from other lands. Being teachers we love helping others to learn about our culture, to improve in their language skills and to go away with a positive experience of personal growth.

Canada has some unique experiences to offer travellers and maple syrup production is as Canadian as you can get. The process is very involved and although the main production season happens in the spring when the temperatures climb above zero during the day and fall below zero at night. This is typically during the month of March, but the "sugaring-off" season can last for up to six weeks.

We are a maple syrup producer in south eastern Ontario in Canada. We have 75 acres of property of which approximate 25 acres is hardwood forest. We have recently expanded our maple production so there is much to be done. New pipeline has been installed, lots of firewood has been cut and a new timber frame "sugarshack" has been completed, all with the help of diligent workawayers. We live in a log home, heat with wood and have two dogs for pets. We love getting to know Workawayers and appreciate their hard effort tremendously.

We live in a log home and can offer Workawayers a room on the main floor with a full three piece bathroom for their exclusive use. There are two separate bedrooms for privacy should there be more than one Workawayer at a time. Relax in the hot tub, winter or summer, after a day of helping.
We live in a rural area so public transportation is limited. We live just minutes from Highway 401, Ontario's main highway corridor, which links all major centres. However we are willing to assist with local travel as much as we can. There are many interesting local sites, such as Prince Edward County, an up-and-coming wine producing region, just south of us. Trenton Armed Forces Base, the largest air force base in Canada is within 10km of our home. We are surrounded by forests and farmland so there is ample opportunity to explore nature at southeastern Ontario's best.
