  Dear workawayer,
  
  This autumn/winter 2025 we are looking for people who would like to join my dad and mum on our small family farmhouse in Tuscany.
  Best if you are:
  - a couple or two friends (or maybe you find an other workawayer with whom you would like to stay here for at least a week with) :)
  - have your own car, as the public transport is quite limited (optional)
  The main project will be prepare everything around the house and garden for winter and support my parents (or my dad if my mum is away in Germany) in daily tasks outside of the house.
  
  Where you’ll be:
  Our farm is quietly nestled in the Tuscan hills, surrounded by olive trees and nature.
  It is a rural and quiet place, so it´s good if you´re looking forward to be in a pace of calmness and immersed in nature.
  Also the public transport connections are limited, the next larger city is Siena (50 mins by bus), there are buses 3 times a day, except on sundays. The next village with a supermarket, 2 bars and 3 restaurants is 10 minutes by foot.
  You will stay in a cozy apartment (with wood oven) for yourself.
  We have Wi-FI, which most of the time is working well, ok for simple homoffice tasks (but probably you would need your own data if you need to do online calls/need much data).
  
  What you can help with:
  
  - Preparing the garden for winter and helping with other seasonal tasks
  - Cutting wood (any experience with this is very welcome!)
  - Supporting my parents with tasks that require a bit more physical strength (e.g. carrying wood for the oven)
  
  For this period, we are looking for someone who would enjoy working 4 days a week (about 4 hours per day), with 3 days off. In return, we offer accommodation and basic food, which you can prepare yourself—though my parents would be happy to share a meal with you from time to time.
  
  Please note: Volunteers do not replace local tradespeople. All the produce from the farm is only for our family use.
  
  Who we are
  We are Ruth (64 , originally from Switzerland), Michael (78, originally from Germany), myself Lia (34), and our three sweet cats, Potilla, Tiegerchen, and Nerina.
  
  My parents, Ruth and Michael, have been living here for over 40 years. When they first arrived, their dream was to live as self-sufficiently as possible. With care and dedication, they renovated parts of the old farmhouse, and today they rent out a few cozy guest apartments. At the same time, their love for the land has remained and they still produce much from what the land gives for personal use: olive oil, jams, tomato sauce, and bread, and take care of an organic vegetable garden.
  
  Ruth, my mother, is the practical “doer,” always full of energy and hands-on with projects. Michael, my father, has always been more of the thinker and philosopher. Sadly, his health no longer allows him to be as active on the farm as he once was.
  
  I, Lia, was born and raised here in the Tuscan hills. Today I live in Berlin, but I return several times a year to help my parents with everything around the farmhouse.
  
  When my parents first arrived in Chiusdino in 1986, they shared the farmhouse with Pio, an old Tuscan farmer. He showed them how to prune vines, care for olive trees, and plant onions. His knowledge and way of farming deeply shaped how my parents came to understand and love this place.
  
  Cultural exchange
  We love sharing meals once in a while, exchanging stories and ideas, and giving you an insight into a life close to nature. We also enjoy visiting the local market together, or giving you hints for hikes to historical places like the roofless church of San Galgano, or for small trips by car to the sea or nearby hot springs.
  
  We are equally curious to learn from you – whether it’s about your culture, or your perspective on life. Every volunteer brings something unique, and that’s what makes the experience enriching for all of us.
  
  At the same time, we value a balanced rhythm of work, rest, and leisure, so that everyone feels comfortable and at ease.
  
  Languages
  We can speak Italian, but we mainly speak German at home, as it is my parents´ mother tongue. So it would be great if you can communicate a bit in German too, so that as a group we have a common language. My mum doesn’t speak English, so day-to-day communication with her is mainly in German (or Italian). My dad speaks English, so he can help translate if needed. And we are also happy to practice and or teach you some Italian and learn other languages :).
  
  What you can look forward to
  
  - Good, natural, homegrown food — many things come directly from our garden and kitchen, such as jam, tomato sauce, seasonal vegetables, and sometimes homemade bread when my mum is around. We’re happy to share meals together from time to time. You’ll have all the basics provided (pasta, rice, tomato sauce, vegetables, jam), and if you’d like anything extra, you can easily buy it in the small village of Chiusdino or at the weekly market on Thursdays.
  - insights into a simple lifestyle and work close to nature
  - beautiful views, calm surroundings, sunrises over the hills
  - walks, hikes, and trips to nearby places (Bus runs 2-3 times a day to Siena, it´s one hour bus ride, it´s best if you have your own car).
  
  Getting here
  By bus, the easiest way is by train or bus via Florence to Siena. From there, bus line 122 goes to Chiusdino/Montieri (several times a day except Sundays). If that doesn’t work out at all, we could find an other way and maybe pick you up :).

  Liebe Workawayer,
  
  im Herbst/Winter 2025 suchen wir Menschen, die Lust haben, meine Eltern auf unserem kleinen Familienhof in der Toskana zu unterstützen.
  
  Am besten passt es, wenn ihr
  
  ein Paar oder zwei Freund*innen seid :)
  
  ein eigenes Auto habt, da die öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel hier sehr begrenzt sind.
  
  Das Hauptprojekt wird darin bestehen, Haus und Garten auf den Winter vorzubereiten und meine Eltern (oder meinen Vater, wenn meine Mutter gerade in Deutschland ist) bei verschiedenen alltäglichen Aufgaben rund ums Haus zu unterstützen.
  
  Wo ihr sein werdet:
  
  Unser Hof liegt ruhig in den toskanischen Hügeln, umgeben von Olivenbäumen und Natur.
  Es ist ein ländlicher und sehr stiller Ort – ideal, wenn ihr euch auf Ruhe, Entschleunigung und Naturfreude freut.
  
  Die öffentlichen Verkehrsanbindungen sind eingeschränkt; die nächste größere Stadt ist Siena (ca. 50 Minuten mit dem Bus). Der Bus fährt dreimal täglich, außer sonntags, da fahren sie nicht.
  Das nächste Dorf mit Supermarkt, zwei Bars und drei Restaurants ist nur etwa 10 Gehminuten entfernt.
  
  Ihr wohnt in einer gemütlichen kleinen Wohnung (voraussichtlich mit Holzofen) für euch selbst.
  
  Wobei ihr mithelfen könnt:
  
  - Den Garten auf den Winter vorbereiten und andere saisonale Arbeiten
  - ggf. Holz schneiden (Erfahrung ist hier sehr willkommen!)
  - Meine Eltern bei Arbeiten unterstützen, die etwas mehr körperliche Kraft erfordern (z. B. Holz für den Ofen tragen)
  
  Für diesen Zeitraum suchen wir Menschen, die Freude daran haben, an vier Tagen pro Woche etwa vier Stunden pro Tag zu arbeiten, mit drei freien Tagen.
  Im Gegenzug bieten wir euch Unterkunft und Grundnahrungsmittel, die ihr euch selbst zubereiten könnt – meine Eltern teilen aber auch gerne hin und wieder eine gemeinsame Mahlzeit mit euch.
  
  Bitte beachtet: Freiwillige ersetzen keine lokalen Handwerker*innen. Alle Produkte vom Hof sind ausschließlich für den Eigenbedarf der Familie bestimmt.
  
  Wer wir sind:
  
  Wir sind Ruth (64, ursprünglich aus der Schweiz), Michael (78, ursprünglich aus Deutschland), ich, Lia (34) – und unsere drei süßen Katzen Potilla, Tiegerchen und Nerina.
  
  Meine Eltern leben nun schon seit über 40 Jahren hier. Als sie damals ankamen, war ihr Traum, möglichst selbstversorgend zu leben. Mit viel Geduld und Hingabe haben sie das alte Bauernhaus Stück für Stück renoviert und vermieten heute einige gemütliche Gästeapartments.
  Ihre Liebe zum Land ist geblieben – sie stellen immer noch ihr eigenes Olivenöl, Marmeladen, Tomatensoße und Brot her und pflegen einen großen Gemüsegarten.
  
  Meine Mutter Ruth ist die praktische „Macherin“, immer voller Energie und Tatendrang. Mein Vater Michael war schon immer mehr der Denker und Philosoph – leider kann er aus gesundheitlichen Gründen heute nicht mehr so aktiv mitarbeiten wie früher.
  
  Ich selbst, Lia, bin hier in den toskanischen Hügeln geboren und aufgewachsen. Heute lebe ich in Berlin, komme aber mehrmals im Jahr zurück, um meine Eltern bei Haus, Hof und Ernte zu unterstützen.
  
  Als meine Eltern 1986 nach Chiusdino kamen, lebten sie gemeinsam mit Pio, einem alten toskanischen Bauern, im Haus. Er zeigte ihnen, wie man Weinreben schneidet, Olivenbäume pflegt und Zwiebeln pflanzt. Sein Wissen und seine Lebensweise haben meine Eltern bis heute geprägt.
  
  Kultureller Austausch
  
  Wir freuen uns, ab und zu gemeinsame Mahlzeiten zu teilen, Geschichten und Ideen auszutauschen und euch Einblicke in ein naturnahes, einfaches Leben zu geben.
  Manchmal besuchen wir zusammen den Wochenmarkt, oder wir geben euch Tipps für Wanderungen zu besonderen Orten wie der „Kirche ohne Dach“ in San Galgano, oder für kleine Ausflüge ans Meer oder zu heißen Quellen.
  
  Genauso neugierig sind wir auf euch – auf eure Kultur, eure Sicht auf die Welt und das, was ihr mitbringt. Jede*r Freiwillige bringt etwas Eigenes ein, und genau das macht diese Erfahrung für alle bereichernd.
  
  Gleichzeitig legen wir Wert auf einen guten Rhythmus zwischen Arbeit, Ruhe und Freizeit, damit sich alle wohlfühlen.
  
  Sprachen
  
  Wir sprechen Italienisch, aber zu Hause vor allem Deutsch, da es die Muttersprache meiner Eltern ist.
  Es wäre schön, wenn ihr ein bisschen Deutsch sprechen oder verstehen könnt, damit wir gemeinsam eine Sprache haben.
  Meine Mutter spricht kein Englisch, daher läuft die tägliche Kommunikation mit ihr meist auf Deutsch (oder Italienisch). Mein Vater spricht Englisch und kann bei Bedarf gerne übersetzen.
  Wir üben aber auch gerne mit euch Italienisch oder lernen etwas von eurer Sprache :)
  
  Worauf ihr euch freuen könnt:
  
  Gutes, natürliches Essen – vieles kommt direkt aus unserem Garten und unserer Küche: Marmelade, Tomatensoße, saisonales Gemüse und manchmal selbst gebackenes Brot, wenn meine Mutter da ist.
  Wir teilen gerne hin und wieder eine Mahlzeit zusammen. Ihr bekommt alle Grundnahrungsmittel (Pasta, Reis, Gemüse, Tomatensoße, Marmelade) und könnt euch alles Weitere im Dorf Chiusdino oder auf dem Wochenmarkt am Donnerstag kaufen.
  
  Einblicke in ein einfaches, naturverbundenes Leben
  
  Wunderschöne Ausblicke, Ruhe und Sonnenaufgänge über den Hügeln
  
  Spaziergänge, Wanderungen und kleine Ausflüge in der Umgebung (der Bus nach Siena fährt 2–3 Mal am Tag, ca. eine Stunde – am besten ist es, wenn ihr ein Auto habt)
  
  Anreise
  
  Am einfachsten erreicht ihr uns mit Zug oder Bus über Florenz nach Siena.
  Von dort fährt die Buslinie 122 nach Chiusdino/Montieri (mehrmals täglich außer sonntags).
  Falls das gar nicht klappt, finden wir sicher eine andere Lösung und können euch eventuell auch abholen :)
  
  Wir freuen uns sehr darauf, eine schöne gemeinsame Zeit mit euch zu verbringen – mit guten Gesprächen und Naturnähe

  We’re happy to welcome digital nomads, though the connection works best if you bring your own data. Our internet is generally fine for basic use, though the Wi-Fi sometimes has short interruptions and we need to turn it off during thunderstorms. For regular online calls, having your own data is necessary, as our wi-fi data does not suffise. Living in the countryside comes with these little "charming" quirks, sorry :).
