I stayed with this family for 4 weeks and had a really nice time there! The family is very welcoming, the kids are so happy and playful. Anita, Ylva and Atlas are great kids. Anita told me many interesting stories and taught me new games, Ylva has so much energy and has very creative ideas and with Atlas I had lots of fun listening to music and

I really enjoyed spending time with them, eating dinner together most nights and especially having pizza nights once a week! We also managed to go to Akureyri for a day. They showed me the city and gave me many recommendations on what to do in the area. On other days I was able to go to the pool or the library in town with the kids.
Husavik is a small, but very beautiful town and I was outside quite often. I also saw the northern lights five times, which was the most incredible thing I ever saw! There's stunning nature close by, which I was able to explore with other workawayers I met in town. Another highlight was that I could take part in the Krubbur hackathon, where I could learn more about some of the challenges regarding the environment in the north of iceland, met many people and worked with a great team and oceanmission to present an idea on how to hackle the problem.
The work that was required from me was light household work and taking care of the kids sometimes. Everything was very manageable and did not take a lot of time. I was always flexible and whenever I had any plans, we found a way of making compromises. The communication in general was open and clear, which I appreciated a lot. Tasks were cleaning the kitchen, doing dishes, vacuuming, laundry, cleaning the bathroom, cooking, looking after Atlas, playing with the kids.
Im very happy that I got to experience this time with all of you, thank you so much for having me!! I hope to see you again:))

Me and my partner stayed in Húsavík, in the north of Iceland, for one month from February to March. It was Louis' first Workaway and my second one, and we couldn't be more grateful for choosing this family! It was an incredible experience in Iceland, hosted by the kindest people on Earth! Johanna and Orly are two busy parents, but also very
… read more welcoming, generous and happy. Anita, Ylva and Atlas are very happy, funny, playful and affectionate kids. In the first 15 days we had very light household tasks to do, never more than 3h a day, and lots of free time to explore the city. We did things like cooking, cleaning, vacuuming, babysitting and playing with the girls, so it never felt like a hard work. In the second half of our stay, we had a chance to work at a museum owned by them, which made us discover even more about this big part of the Icelandic culture. At this time we had lots of free time to work in our personal projects. We had many dinners together (always happy moments), the super tasty pizza night (thanks to Johanna) and we had the chance to watch the Icelandic contest that chooses the singer to go to Eurovision. The family brought us to visit a famous waterfall, Akureyri, and we also joined Orly to go to another city to help with his work. Orly has a big knowledge about Iceland, videomaking and so many things, so it was always a pleasure to talk to him. Orly's father showed up a few times and shared his passion about the city, Iceland's history and the celebrities that he hosted there. Johanna taught us about life in Iceland in general, kids behaviors, gave us some tips about weather (very useful ones) and when to see the Northern Lights. It was a dream to see them and we saw 4 times in total, which made our month even more special! We had a chance to see 2 whales while walking near the lighthouse and 2 seals in the harbor. We are big fans of nature in all forms and Iceland provided many different types of landscapes. We also met 2 other volunteers there and we did a trip together, which unfortunately ended by us being rescued by Orly and his father, because there was too much snow and the car got stuck. Fortunately everyone was safe and Orly really helped us in this difficult moment. The family always made sure we were good and that we had everything we needed. They are masters in hospitality and they made us feel like home from the first day till the end! Thank you sooooo much for all this experience! We really hope to be back and to see you again!!! :) Mariana and LouisSolo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.
