How do I begin to explain the wonderful experience I enjoyed with this beautiful family?!! From the moment I saw Daniela and Ethan standing on the sidewalk in front of the train station I knew I had made the proper decision to stay with this family!
Instantly I felt kindness and generosity and this feeling only grew after I was warmly welcomed
… read more into their lovely home with Nonna and MIke greeting me at the door. Nonna is the mother of Daniela and she is an amazing cook. Each day, with the freshest ingredients, she prepared delicious foods for lunch and for dinner. We always ate dinner outside on the terrace and it was delightful. Always there was good wine and bread, my favorites! She always offered to prepare some breakfast for me but I'm not too much of a big breakfast eater so I would eat fruit and yogurt. I mentioned Mike, he is a beautiful Golden Retriever who just has the best personality. We quickly grew fond of each other beginning with the first walk we had on the morning after my arrival. Each morning he would greet me at the foot of the stairs anxiously awaiting our brisk walk. (I miss Mike!) My comfortable room was on the very top floor of a large 4 story house and with its private bathroom was the perfect place to wind down after a busy day with 2 growing and lively boys and a big dog. The bed was very comfortable and I didn't have any trouble sleeping. I mentioned 2 lively boys, yes they are typical boys of 4 years and 9 years. It was great fun speaking with them in English and reading stories and doing activities. They are active boys and full of energy. Several days Ethan, who is 9, walked with Mike and me to the park and Ethan played on the swings while I walked Mike around the park. We had fun talking and spending time together. This family is so nice. They included me on a trip to the beach one day which was so nice, and to a large park another day. Daniela allowed me join her and Nonna at the end of the school year programs for each of the boys and they were such fun to watch. They truly welcomed me into their home with love and kindness. Francesco was always there checking to see if I needed anything. One day I rode with him to the building supply store to purchase some things and he gave me a tour of the village. One evening I joined him and 2 of his friends for something to drink at a local nightspot. It was great! I just can't say enough nice things about this family and one day I hope to return to spend more time with them! Francesco, Daniela and Nonna and Ethan and Liam, thank you for allowing me to opportunity to get to know you and experience true Italian family life.Dejado por el anfitrión para el workawayer (Mark)
It was a real pleasure to host Mark for one week at our home. From the very beginning, he impressed us with his calm, kind, and respectful nature. Mark was always willing to help around the house and took initiative with daily tasks. He was especially caring and attentive with our dog, Mike, whom he walked every single day. Mike absolutely loved his time with Mark and was clearly very happy and well cared for.
Even though this was his first experience as a Workawayer, Mark showed admirable courage and curiosity. As a senior citizen, his willingness to embrace a new culture, learn a new language, and try something different is something we deeply respect and find inspiring.
He kept everything clean and orderly, was always polite, and contributed positively to our daily life. We truly hope to see him again in the future and would be very happy to host him anytime. Thank you, Mark!

This was my first workaway experience (as an older person too!) and so I was quite apprehensive. Going to stay with a family is a big leap in the dark; HOWEVER, from my first contact with Francesco, I felt reassured and confident. He made contact to find out when I could come, he then kept in touch regularly, suggesting travel and transport
… read more options and overall making me feel that I could trust that the plans would come to fruition. Although part of my purpose in doing a workaway was to listen to and speak Italian, it was very reassuring that Francesco spoke such good English as it meant that there were no misunderstandings and plans were very straightforward.
From the moment Daniela picked me up from the train station, I felt welcomed and I could immediately relax! The family consists of the parents, two young sons, Nonna (Daniela's mother) and Mike (the golden retriever). I was welcomed with friendship, warmth, generosity and interest. It is easy to say 'make yourself at home' but in this case, it really felt genuine and heartfelt. From the mornings when the boys were getting ready to go to school, to the lunches at home (usually with Nonna and Daniela) to supper with everyone, I was part of the day. I realised that Mike the marvellous dog loved going out and so his walks naturally became part of the daily routine. If you love dogs, you'll love Mike - he is just so enthusiastic and sociable and will be eternally grateful for attention and walks!
I loved the Italian food and Nonna was incredibly patient and kind with me as I asked how she did this, how she made that. I could also really try and practice Italian listening and speaking with her for which I am very grateful!! The boys were absolutely lovely and I found it so interesting going to their schools, finding out about the Italian education system and spending time with them (both of them speak some English and I was happy to talk to them in English so they could practice).
The family included me in their lives in every way; from trips with Daniela to the children's schools, to the farm shop, to the shopping centre, to have drinks with her local friends, walking with Nonna to the supermarket, to going with all of them to the countryside outside Forli. We had two wonderful trips to the stunning hills around the city; I was introduced to their friends and their children which I felt was a great privilege and very enjoyable.
The family kindly provide a very comfortable bedroom and bathroom at the top of the house so there is as much privacy as you need. The family were very respectful in relation to privacy and personal space which I found very reassuring. Because of this, settling down happened very quickly and easily. Basically, no stress, no hidden agenda, very open conversations. I wanted to help out and so did some very limited housework and walked Mike but I never felt that there were expectations of me that I was unaware of.
The house is just outside Forli in a blissfully quiet area overlooking fields and mountains in the far distance. Forli and its station is very easy to access via a local bus (there is also a bike if you want to use it - the area is very bike friendly). I was able to do a few trips to Forli, Faenza and Ferrara which gave me a greater sense of the area and the beauty of Emilia Romagna.
I feel so privileged to have been part of this wonderful family and their lives. It really was a 'cultural exchange'; I have a much better understanding of Italian family life, education, politics etc and definitely feel that my Italian has 'got going'. There is no better experience than being with a family as you are immersed from the moment of arrival and learning and absorbing new information all the time. I am so grateful to Francesco and Daniela and Nonna and the boys and Mike (last but not least) and I honestly look forward to seeing you all again. I would recommend you all from the bottom of my heart!!Dejado por el anfitrión para el workawayer (Mary)
Hosting Mary has been a truly wonderful experience. She spent about 15 days with our family and from the very beginning, she became a part of our daily life with warmth, kindness, and genuine interest.

This was Mary’s first Workaway experience, and we feel lucky to have been the ones to host her. She brought positivity, cultural exchange, and a true sense of connection. We wholeheartedly recommend her to any future host and sincerely hope our paths will cross again.
Thank you, Mary — you will always have a place in our home.
Staying with Francesco and his family over Easter (8 days) was my first workaway experience, and I enjoyed it immensely!
I was very involved and included in the family life and activities but also had opportunities to spend time alone. I had a private bedroom and bathroom and was free to borrow a bicycle and go and explore Forlì on my own.

Francesco was working a lot of the time so I didn’t spend much time with him, but Daniela took me to a museum in Forlì and on a trip with the kids.
The kids were eager to play and so was the wonderful golden retriever. I had some interesting talks with Daniela and Francesco and learned a bit about Italian culture and history. I also enjoyed talks with Nonna and other family members who came to visit, but with them it was a great benefit that I already know some Italian, as they spoke very little English. But the kids and parents speak English very well which made it easy to connect.
This is such a warm, loving and welcoming family and I felt at home right away. They were attentive to my needs and very generous. My best recommendations to this host! 🌟

Abe stayed with us for about a month and a half, and it was truly a great experience having him here. From the very beginning, he integrated wonderfully into our daily life. He took amazing care of our dog Mike, walking him at least twice a day—something Mike absolutely loved!

He was a huge help with housekeeping and garden maintenance, and he gave me a great hand in organizing and settling the basement—something I had been putting off for a while!
One of the things we appreciated most was his love for cooking. Often, when we got home late, Abe would already have dinner ready for us, preparing delicious and comforting meals—many of them traditional American dishes we had never tried before. The highlight was definitely the Thanksgiving dinner he prepared and shared with us and some friends—it was a wonderful evening, and everyone loved his cooking!
We truly hope to welcome Abe back again in the future. He became part of our family during his stay, and we can’t recommend him enough as a Workaway guest.

What an exceptional family! Francesco, Daniela, Ethan, Liam, Nonna are amazing hosts. My stay was about 1.5 months and my experience was beyond what words can express. I can't wait to return. Whenever I wanted to have free time I could walk to the store/ market, gym or take the bus downtown. My room was private, spacious and comfortable and great wi-fi. too. This will be a great experience, so do stop by. All I can say is that I am eager to return as soon as possible. Thank you all for allowing me to stay and share your time/family/holidays/friends. Ciao and see you in 2025 ✌️🎈🎉🎉✨🎄🎊

My role was to be part of the family. During the day I would relax at home or accompany Dany on errands to nearby towns and go for a wander. I had many interesting conversations with Dany while we drove.

I enjoyed taking Mike for a walk each day. Whenever I came down the stairs in my walking clothes he would practically vibrate with excitement, and he would carry that energy the whole walk.
Nonna would prepare the most delicious meals, ensured I was well-fed and was always ready to help if I needed something. Our communication was impaired by my lack of Italian but we got by with translation apps, gestures and smiles.
After Francesco arrived home in the evening we would chat about our days over dinner. I learned a lot about Italy vis-a-vis Europe during these chats, which as an Australian was fascinating new insight I have not had access to previously.
Thank to you all for welcoming me into your home and making me a part of your bright family for the past four weeks!

I was so sad to leave and I will definitely be going back someday! I recommend this family to anyone looking for a loving home in Italy ❤️
