We're a small community of people, on a beautiful piece of land in rural Texas, full of lush green hills, towering pines, oak savannahs, and wild animals, about 1 hour's drive from Austin (2h from San Antonio, 3h from the beach). 8 people live here now, from age 2 to age 72,
We've traveled the world volunteering with Workaway, hitchhiking and sleeping on floors with Couchsurfing, playing music in bands, farming, building, protesting, yogaing, truck-driving, teaching... all kinds of things. Now, we're trying to restore this piece of land to a more balanced state and to build a home, a farm, an apiary, a studio... We want this to be a communal place that fosters creativity, closeness to nature, silence, loudness, peace, chaos, etc. - you know, the good stuff!

If you want to leave the property and explore, there are 3 major cities within driving distance (Austin, Houston, San Antonio) and tons of natural beauty (Pedernales, Port Aransas, the Colorado River, etc.). If you want to go to the city often, you'll need a vehicle. There is no public transit from here to the city, but if we go during your stay, you are welcome to come. If this is something important to you, please reach out and we can talk about your expectations/hopes/dreams~ But of course, the big draw here is the natural beauty, serenity, and community building. But the city is there too!
As far as the people here, we've lived our lives based on sharing and cultural exchange and (hopefully!) have something to offer in return :) Maybe you'd like to practice Armenian or Spanish or Arabic, learn how to tour in a band or build furniture or drive a semi, play the drums or the flute or make beats on Ableton, talk about Mishima or Goethe or Wong Kar Wai, hear about immigrating from Lebanon in the 1970s, walk through some beautiful rolling hills and come up with ways to make "permaculture" something more than a buzz word, build a compost toilet or a guitar amp... we try to approach all these things in a humble, open way, and that's why we want this place to be more communal and open.

25 hours for every 7 days you're here. So, your week starts the day you arrive. We'll collaborate with you to make a schedule that works for you.
Help includes all phases of house-building (from concrete to wood framing to tiling floors), gardening, building, running our apiary (beehives), ecological landscaping, etc. Everyone here works together.
Please let us know your abilities / experience / boundaries. This is hard work in hot, humid weather. But the place is beautiful, and you will see the work of your hands manifest in front of your eyes, a great feeling. Maybe you'll build something here too someday!
Food: 3 meals a day. Some people here eat meat, some don't. We can probably accommodate any diet, just let us know.
- July - August 2022: Either a tent (we have one and can put it in a secluded, outdoor space) *or* a pullout bed (in an indoor, common space).
- Sept 2022 and after: Private guest house with a bathroom and a bed
And of course all of the other space is communal, so you'll have a place to shower, place to hang out when it's 100 F and 97% humidity (welcome to central Texas!), etc.

Our wifi connection is consistent and decent, but not super fast... we have had people here who teach via livestream or conference, andit's usually adequate. If this is an issue for you, let's talk about it. Also, the only reliable phone service here is AT&T.
Campers are welcome, but there is no electric/water hookup/dock for one yet. But you're free to use the electricity/water in the buildings. And you can run an extension cord.
We have dogs and cats here, so we can only welcome pets that get along with others. Pets must be child-friendly and well-behaved... a 2-year-old lives here. There are a lot of snakes and coyotes and hogs here too. My cat goes out alone at 3 AM all the time and has never been eaten, but my neighbor's dog has ended up in the hospital with a snakebite (twice). So, be aware and be careful.
