Nestled in the most isolated region of the continental U.S. on a bench above the kootenai river sits a very little farm on the border of Montana and British Columbia. Here at relative low elevation and high latitude we beat out a living by working the land.

Having gained over twenty years of experience from working with my uncle and an icon in the organic food movement ""David Ronniger,"" we have begun a production of our own. We grow garlic, have a small orchard, and have our home vegetable garden. It is a small intimate atmosphere. We work hard, very hard, but do not expect our friends to do more than they feel will help diminish an otherwise wonderful experience.

Your experience will be what you choose to make of it. We expect hard work when you are working, a good attitude, and no smokers. There will be much to learn about all facets of living sustainably. From composting to seed saving, as well as simply saving a buck through common sense.
You will have a large school bus outfitted as an RV to stay in which is fully functional. Both can accommodate 2 "friendly" people or one person. Be able to eat from the garden in season, and there is much to do in N. Idaho and N.W. Montana, so if you are into the out doors there are lots of recreational activities to keep you busy in your off time. Also there is a good social network of young farmers and woofers to share evenings with. You may like to have a car, but it is not necessary. We speak English and Spanish.

We are not looking for anyone who is not interested in farming. We have had people looking for simply a place to stay and bide time. If this is what you want, Allicins Ranch is not for you. Expect to learn and be challenged here, mentally and physically. We love to teach our trade and take our side of the bargain very seriously, we expect you to do the same. We expect you keep your living space neat, communicate well, and respect the privacy and nature of all beings on the farm.

If you can hack it, send us a message. We will interview you over the phone, and if we like the way you sound, we will ask for a reference. Thank you, Ben and Claire

You should have no expenses beyond what the business can provide and will have enough to live a great life unless you are frivolous, or already come with large debt. We have a thriving organic farming community located in a pristine environment where you can explore the rocky mountains in your time off. We work very hard, but play a lot as well, so there will be a lot of free time to explore. In the winter there are several ski hills close by, and in the summer, there are many lakes, hot springs, and rivers nearby, as well as several cool and funky towns. We look to pay an honest and fair wage to a qualified person that can not only help us maintain, but grow our business.

Depending on the time of year you will learn methods of organic and biodynamic gardening and farming, including no-till farming. Business skills, sales, marketing, juggling...a lot of task juggling, shipping methodology, logistics, mechanics, carpentry, etc.... You will learn about the local nature, and how it influences our decisions here on the farm. We will cook amazing organic meals full of vitality that you can participate in the preparation of. We are predominantly vegetarian, but do eat some meat.
