Descripción
Our project is designed to meet the needs of the Kekirawa community, including children, teenagers, youth and adults, assisting them to discover their own talents and develop themselves to be self-sufficient members of the community.

OUR GOALS
Children, teenagers, youth and adults here are able to learn how to speak, read and write in English, use modern ICT equipment and learn how to apply new skills such as media, as well as explore new career and business opportunities to enrich their job and life chances and gain self- confidence and be inspired to take ownership of their own lives.

However, there are many talented personalities in this community. However, they are hidden and have yet to realize their talents and various capacities. The center gives them a chance to discover them and push them in order to let them find their path. Until now, the people in my community (kids, teenagers, young adults, and adults) have walked a certain distance in their life path without knowing this. Therefore the center needs to show them and open their minds to take the right path. This is the only challenge the center as if you can assist us on this. kindly join with us and help us.

I volunteered at this project back in August 2018 and was the most amazing and profound experience of my travels so far. Sampath, was so welcoming and kind. Anton is a grate Volunteer which i have ever met. very decent and very innocent. the work that i assigned him to deal with students was little bit tough. but anton didnt worried about it. i always recommend him for any one who seek very genuine and gentle volunteer.

Since my first visit to Sri Lanka 3 years ago I had an idea to come back and volunteer with beautiful srilankan kids whose big dark-brown eyes loook deep inside of you, right into the heart. So I wasn't hesitating to accept Sampath's invitation.

The centre is a kind of wonderland:) Sampath organized an oasis of contemporary education in this… read more completely traditional and mostly undeveloped place – I was really surpised by that contrast.
The Center has a rich library with a variety of books on different topics (astronomy, animal world, encyclopedias, nature, physics, chemistry, biology, art, sports etc. etc.) My goal was to implement this huge amount of books into the process of study.
1. Reading classes. According to my personal experience reading aloud is the best way to practice any language. We were reading with kids, translating the words into sinhala (with dictionaries and google translator), discussing the topics, answering the questions.
2. Library reorganization. The library had about 1700 books mostly uncategorized and mixed. With other volunteers we were sorting the books and finally organized it nicely with a division into sections.
3. Photos & Videos. It was a pleasure to witness the life of the Center and also capture it on the camera. The materials were needed for the documentation and information about the work of teachers and the learning process.
4. Regular English classes. Every class we followed a particular topic. It was interesting and exciting to prepare different types of materials (video, cartoons, media) for every class.
All in all during my stay (1 month) I got a valuable experience in teaching and organizing work. I had beautiful time with kids and other volunteers that I'm really thankful for. Every student was unique, and although the english level was different I felt a special connection almost with every child. Sampath is a grate person to work and study from. He is a high qualified specialist in computers and media, very hard-working. He is really open-minded and ready to support any idea that can improve the studying process and the life of the community of Kekirawa about which he is carying a lot.

The area itself is really rural, not much to see in Kekirawa, although it's really close to Sigiria (35 km), Dambulla (20 km), Anuradhapura (50 km) – these places you can easily reach by bus or tuk-tuk. But if you are looking for some authentic experience in the true and simple life of srilankan north it's one of the best opportunities to get it here.
