Stevie 64 & Yvie 66. We are both retired from the rat race, been there done that , got the Tee shirt, worked hard and played hard in our early days, loved looking smart, loved clubs and bars, soulful music and now after lots of travelling we are now enjoying rural life in a beautiful sunny part of south west France. we both enjoy music, history and art, cooking and the good life.
We acquired a former wine growers property in September 2021, it is surrounded by vineyards ( not ours) we will have builders in from time to time and it would be helpful at times to have an extra pair of hands to work either in the gardens or some general help in general maintenance/ Barn clearance. The house sits within the Montbazillac vinyard region just south of the beautiful city of Bergerac on the Dordogne river. The house looks over rolling countryside and is less than 5 minutes walk into the village of Pomport, 10 minutes drive into Bergerac or 15 minutes into the bastide town of Eymet or a short train ride into Bordeaux.

My partner and myself are from East London where we still have a property, previously to moving to France we were living in Cyprus where we had 2 shops, we love to travel and explore and would like to do North Africa and go back to Israel again which we love so much.

Possibly learn a bit of the French language and the way of life, or even the English way of life!. Even some new skills.
My partner loves Brocantes or Vide Greniers (Boot/Flee markets and second hand stores) you will be more than welcome to tag along if there is room and you will be treated as a family member. We also like a cultural experience frequently like to drive around the countryside and villages and go for walks, also often do a picnic as well.

Alojamiento
Own clean and comfortable bedroom with double bed, use of own en-suite bathroom. Daily meals will be offered and cold or hot drinks provided. In the evenings at home we often BBQ with a glass of wine or a cold beer and enjoy an outdoor lifestyle. Camping is also permitted in the gardens if you bring your own tent. Smoking is permitted outside of any buildings & be respectful to the countryside and dispose of you litter correctly using containers provided.

In our local village of Sigoules is a Bread shop, Supermarket/Patisserie, 2 bars, Tabac, Restaurant, Fuel, Bank, pharmacy and health centre.
In you own free time there lots of country walks or we can drop you in the city of Bergerac with all its charm and history. We also have a nice terrace and pool with magnificent views for relaxing or swimming weather permitting.

We can pick people up from Bergerac Airport or the Train/bus station, some do car share(blablacar) which you can search on google, and we can pick up in a agreed location, if you bring your own transport, it can be kept out of the sun in a secure area of our property.

Richie is a very enthusiastic worker and enjoys the great outdoors, a true lover of life with a happy and relaxed soul. He is very respectful of our environment and conscientious with his skillset. My time in Pomport,was outstanding.Steve and Yvie,were fantastic hosts,showing me around,quaint villages ,markets on down time.I helped out with landscaping and a little painting.Beautiful location,with vines,left right and centre.Relaxed around the pool,after duties,didnt go short ,of fantastic food.Perhaps down "the track',we may meet again.

I spent only 10 days with Yvie and Steve (It means I would have spent more time with them). It was a very good time. They were very kind and welcoming.
Their location is in a beautiful part of France. I mainly spent the working time to renovate and gardening. They are very fair concerning working hours and days off ( not like some hosts...)

Straight off the bat Alan was like a pal, we had a fantastic time with and consider him a friend, he was always willing and eager to help, his wit was sharp and he had good knowledge on many subjects, we managed to achieve many tasks during his stay, we wish him well on his adventure and is welcome back anytime if he is passing this way.

I could go on forever with my review but I will keep it short…
When Teresa & Stuart arrived we showed them to their accommodation which was a newly renovated with a fully fitted kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathroom. The fridge was stocked with everything they needed to make their own breakfast which also including English tea, instant coffee,… read more bottled water, orange juice, crisp, peanut and wine. We would make them their lunches and evening meals which also included dessert. We asked them not to use the cooker or hob, as another workaway had abused this facility. However they could use the all other facilities. The first thing Teresa said was “we like to cook our own bacon and eggs and fresh coffee” we said sorry no cooking. TEXT REDACTED
Just to clarify a few points Teresa has pointed out.
Power Tools…… as my background is health and safety I did not feel there was any opportunity for them to be used whilst they were with us. Stuart was cutting small low branches and I did not want him on a ladder with a chainsaw as they would cut fine with a handsaw.

Our Rules (our house) which you felt were little excessive.
No fires, this was for your own safety……..however from your review you ignored this by using a portable gas burner in our house without our permission which we were shocked about and feel you breached our trust.
Don’t open window without bug screen on them…….. this is to stop bugs coming into the house.
Don’t take drinks into the bedroom other than water…… this is because we have had workaways spilling drinks on the bed.
Don’t use the oven & hob…….. This is because a previous workaway abused this facility and splashed fat on the walls and did not cover food being cooked in the oven.
We don’t feel these are excessive!

Laundry…….The first week they were with us they gave us 7 loads of washing to do for them. This was because they were travelling and had not done any washing for a while, which we felt was a bit excessive.
Breakfast…….We supplied you with everything you needed for breakfast, TEXT REDACTED. We have had lots of workaways that were quite happy with what we had supplied them with.

You have forgotten to mention the numerous bottles of wine and beers and soft drinks that were on offer at mealtimes and at the 2 BBQ’s whilst you were with us.

Stuart was a hard worker and happy to do any task you set him. However Teresa never seemed truly happy and was always slightly hesitant with any task you set her.
Stuart is very quiet and reserved, whereas Teresa is very confident, opinionated TEXT REDACTED
Teresa and Stuart are travelling around on their motor bikes (which we allowed them to service and offered them tools to enable them to service their bikes) Stuart is very methodical and likes to keep them very clean. TEXT REDACTED

Working with Steve was always a pleasure. He is very relaxed, and sets tasks that can be completed within a reasonable working day, which generally starts between 9.30 and 10 and ends between 3.00 and 3.30 He gives clear instruction, always has an encouraging word during the process, and gives praise for a job well done. We worked in the garden of… read more the house that Steve and Yvie live in, clearing ivy, pruning wisteria, and taking dead branches from 3 of the big old trees in the back garden. We also worked at the smaller house they are renovating close by, where we painted and patched the outside stone and renderwork, painted a window and garage door, laid a new footpath up to the new front door, tidied up the front hedging, and banded and filled plasterboard joints inside the property.

Yvie is the decorating queen and her design skill is apparent throughout the finished interiors.

Steve and Yvie welcomed us with a barbeque on the first night. We were able to leave our bikes in part of their wonderful old barn, and were shown our accommodation. The main house has the facility to close off an interior door to make a self contained cottage at one end, which has 3 large, light, bright and beautifully decorated rooms, and a large showeroom with loo and basin. The bedroom is decorated in a very romantic way, and Steve and Yvie’s creativity is evident throughout all the interior and exterior areas. The lounge was very comfortable, with a huge TV, log burner, (not to be used) and a great view of the sunset every evening. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, oven and hob, and a fridge freezer.

Steve and Yvie were very helpful when we asked to print off a couple of documents, and provided us with an envelope. We are long term travelling on motorbikes, and although we try to be paperless.. sometimes you just have to print stuff! They had also allowed us to use their address to have a couple of items delivered before our arrival. There are no facilities to do your own laundry, so Yvie does it for you. This she does extremely well, and it is returned beautifully folded and amazingly quickly! They have several bicycles on the property that we were encouraged to borrow.

We had some wonderful evening meals with Steve and Yvie. We generally ate at around 6pm, mostly in the dining room in their own home. Yvie makes a super quiche and does a delicious roast chicken and Steve makes an awesome curry, and his stuffed peppers were really good. There was always plenty of food in the evening. Lunch was, in general, one round of ham and cheese sandwiches with possibly a piece of fruit. On Steve’s Birthday and the next day we got cake. We made a flask of coffee for ourselves each day, and provided elevenses’ for ourselves. Breakfast was self-catered, but bread, butter, jam and marmalade were provided. We were only allowed to use the microwave, the toaster and the fridge/freezer in the kitchen. Not too much of a problem as lunch and dinner were provided. We did go to the local (12kms away) supermarket and get granola, fruit, yoghurts and fruit juice for our breakfasts. There is only instant coffee available at Steve and Yvie’s. If you are a coffee addict you may be a little stuck. We had our own portable gas burner so we were able to use our stove top expresso maker... Hoorah! (Sorry Steve)

Steve is a fountain of knowledge and can tell you much about the local area. He is very interested in History and has an amazing memory for facts.

We were not given the opportunity to use any machinery, all branch cutting and hedge trimming, was done by hand saw, loppers and cutters.

All in all we did enjoy our stay with Steve and Yvie, they are good, kind people, but as mature adults (I am 55, have run my own business and raised 2 children) we did feel that some house rules were a little excessive, although we do understand why these rules are in place.
