We are still full of pleasure about the time we were given to spend with Nafissa and Maik.
The Believe and See Ranch is a wonderful place to learn more about the language of horses and to recharge our batteries. Nafissa and Maik are absolutely lovely hosts and Maple Ridge is a place to feel at home.
Together with Nafissa and Maik, we
… read more waterproofed the paddocks. Both of them spare no effort and are always ready to lend a hand. We had a lot of fun with the rest of the autumn work, it was nice to see the ranch slowly being prepared for winter.
Our room with its own bathroom was very comfortable. Nafissa is an incredibly good cook and treated us to culinary delights in the evening. Maik's burgers are also fantastic, he is a brilliant barbecue master.
We also spent an evening at the beautiful fireplace. The evening around the campfire was magical, we prepared German (stick bread) and Canadian (s'mores) specialties and let the evening end under a starry sky. Maik made us a delicious cocktail for the evening.
Nafissa taught me so much about working with horses, and I was also able to take part in her lessons. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. Escudo, PK, Adira and Wolff are absolutely marvelous. We had a wonderful time with all 4 of them, they are very open-minded and warm.
The little twister in the house is Murphy, a very unique little guy. We have absolutely taken him into our hearts. He is so adorable and can perform quite a few tricks for a treat.
On our day off, we were invited to accompany Nafissa and Maik on their boat trip. It was a lot of fun, good music, delicious sandwiches and a breathtaking views.
Thanks to Nafissa and Maik for all these wonderful memories. We will keep this time in our hearts forever.Dejado por el anfitrión para el workawayer (Pia & Fritz)
Fritz & Pia have only been gone less than 12 hours and we miss them already.
They were an absolutely delightful couple, and we enjoyed sharing our home with them for the last 3 weeks.
They are incredibly hard working, they did an amazing job with all the things we needed help with. We had a list of fall projects and they just did it and worked
… read more so well independently.
We did a few projects together and had a lot of fun through the hard work.
Fritz is an amazing Chef, and he made us some traditional German meals which brought me right back to my childhood (my father is German ) and it was truly amazing.
Pia is an excellent horsewoman and was able to help out with a lot of the rehabilitation exercises of one of my horses and helped one of our newer horses start to be comfortable and relaxed. I really think he’s going to miss her SO much. His whole body and face would light up when he saw her coming.
Pia & Fritz are incredibly respectful and we highly recommend them.
We hope they come back to Canada and stay in touch.
Thank you so much Pia & Fritz!

This was one of the best stays i could wished for!
In the beginning I was very nervous because it was my first workaway experience and I am also not that extrovert person. But Nafissa and Mike made it so special for me.
Their farm has a really nice flair and I feeled me the whole time like home.
They took me to many special places around Maple
… read more Ridge and Vancouver. I enjoyed it really if it was a bike ride, a hike or a boad trip ( what is definitly every time something special:) ).
I have also a really big Heart for dogs so I enjoyed really the time with their little pug Murphy, where is sometimes a little special but thats what makes him so lovingly.
The work around the farm was for me also something special because with every step you make you see how everything changed and with how much love and effort Nafissa and Mike let all these things happen.
We were eating every evening together and I had to say it was so delicious. Nafissa is a really good cook and makes even better Cocktails. But also Mike is a really good grill master and he makes really good Pancakes:)
After dinner Mike invites me in his special movie room and we watched some really good movies and series.
Nafissa took some time to invites me into her work with the horses and I appreciate that really because I never did something like that bevor.
Her horse Escudo is a really well trained horse and also a good Coach:)
What I want to say in the end.
These two people, Nafissa and Mike are very special. They give you so much energy for the next steps in your life. You feel like you can do everything. I liked it really to listen to them because it is like a book tells you his Story and Experience.
All I can say is Thank you. Thank you for those really special two weeks and I wish Nafissa, Mike, Murphy, Chip, Escudo, Jake and Wolff only the best and I hope I will see them again.
With love

Louis stayed with us for 2 weeks. He was an amazing guest, a hard and talented worker, and a genuinely fun person to have around.
He arrived on a Friday morning and we were all getting ready to paint fences outside and he just dove right In within minutes.
We were repainting hundreds of feet of existing fences and getting fence boards painted
… read more for new fencing that was going on. It was a huge job. There was a lot of painting and prep work - power washing, sanding etc, and moving boards etc and we could not have done it without him. We all worked together on the weekends and he was on his own on during the week as we had to work at our regular jobs. We were on a deadline to get some boards ready for a fencing contractor to install and he made it happen.
We enjoyed taking him out on the boat, and for a little bit of sightseeing. I enjoyed giving him a natural horsemanship lesson. He did a great job for his first time with ground work and patterns.
He was also very good with the dog who can be an escape artist and also needs a lot of attention and he was so patient with him.
As far as living in the house he is super clean and great in all the common areas and even pitched in with the kitchen etc. we didn’t expect or require that , but he’s just so helpful.
I highly reccomend Louis to anyone who is considering it. A great experience overall.

Simon was an excellent guest. He’s incredibly polite and hard working. I felt bad because so much of the work is outdoors and Mother Nature has been a bit fierce with the rain, which put a damper on a few things. We weren’t able to do the painting we intended however Simon adapted quickly and took care of some deconstruction projects that we had

He was excellent with the horses, handled them independently as well as did a great job with the weekend chores and giving the inside of the barn a much needed deep clean from floor to ceilingComentarios

Lois was with us for 3 weeks and was an excellent guest and a huge asset to us.
We have thousands of feet of fences that we need to repaint once it stops raining, but they did also need to be prepped and cleaned. Her main job was powerwashing and scrubbing them so that they are ready to paint. She did such a fabulous job they look brand new. It

She was excellent with the horses and was able to take care of them on the weekends, and I felt confident with her handling them on her own. We have the horse chores covered in the week by a farmhand but unfortunately, our farmhand came down sick and Lois just pitched in and took care of our farm hand's as well covered the weekday shifts that we were down a hand without even being asked, she saw a need and took care of it. It was highly appreciated.
Lois was a great houseguest, really good with our dog, very clean, self-sufficient, managed her hours independently, was able to work completely unsupervised - we could trust her to just do the job without us having to check in, and she even cooked for us on occasion.
We had a lot of fun conversations on the deck at sunset, and I highly recommend Lois as a guest, and hope that we are able to stay in touch with her and see her again.

About the Ranch:
They have four Horses and a pug.
All of then have ther own personality and a big heart. They are all super good animals, we miss them already.
the horses are very kind and carefull making you feel comfortable around them, and Murffi the Pug... what would the Ranch be without him?! He is super funny and will try everything to be a part.
We are glad that Mike and Nafissa welcomed us in there home, and made us feel like home too.
We had the greadest time with all of them and are looking forward to see them again here or back home when they travel thru Germany.
It was the perfect start for us with Workaway and we're going to continue using the app here and everytime we travel again.
Thank you for everything!

Freddy & Naima stayed with us for 2 and half weeks. It was our first Workaway experience, so we definitely were a bit nervous to start as we basically are opening a room in our home, however from the minute they reached out, then our zoom call and their arrival to now, it has been overwhelmingly positive.
From strangers to life long friends in
… read more just a couple of weeks. We hope to have them back someday or even visit them in their part of the world. And we now also feel so much more confident in being part of Workaway and welcoming more travellers to our home.
They are a delightful young couple and they work extremely hard and diligent with excellent attention to detail. Farm work can be a bit gruelling, especially for a spring clean up after a difficult winter. They took it in stride and did an incredible job.
They trimmed over 100 length feet of overgrown hedges, pulled weeds and ground cloth, and then replaced the ground cloth for over 3700 square feet of garden beds, raked the pastures, took down a pergola, etc.
Naima was very good with the horses, they really liked her, and I was able to trust her and feel confident for her to handle and interact with them on her own. She easily gave our semi feral pony his daily medication (that's NO small task, he's fiesty but he wasn't for her he liked her) and my other 3 really liked her, and she did a great job on the weekend stall and paddock cleaning, as well as a great spring clean of the barn area.
We felt confident letting Freddy drive the tractor and haul material. I think he enjoyed that part. :)
They accomplished a LOT in their short time here, and we are so grateful to have all this work done. They were super easy and self sufficient houseguests, they kept the common areas clean and were very attentive and conscientous with our pug who can be a bit of an escape artist, and he never escaped with them.
Overall It was a great experience, if you are thinking of having them come stay with you, I recommend you stop thinking and make it happen.Experience living on a small family farm and help with animal care in British Columbia, Canada
