Descripción
We are a close-knit family living and working on our heritage farm, which has been in our family for centuries. The farm is home to 240 sheep, 10 horses, some geese and 2 dogs.
We are also actively involved in the conservation of the critically endangered Faroese Horse, a native breed to the Faroe Islands. Several of the horses live here on the farm, so this is an important part of both our farm life and our family's interests.
Our family lives in two neighbouring houses on the farm. In one house are Signa (34), Jenus (41), Ólavur (11), Elisa (10), Regin (1) and baby Evald (6 months). Next door live Signa's parents, Dorthe and Evald, and Signa's two brothers live nearby with their families. There are usually several generations around and plenty of activity.
At the moment, Signa is on maternity leave, while the rest of the adults generally work from around 8:00–16:00 alongside taking care of the farm. Life here can therefore be busy, but we also enjoy spending time together when the day's work is done..
We would love to welcome someone who is interested in experiencing everyday life on a Faroese farm, becoming part of our family for a while, and helping us with daily tasks that come with farm and family life. -

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
Staying with us is an opportunity to experience everyday life with a Faroese family and learn about traditional farm life in the Faroe Islands.
You will be welcome to join our family meals, taste traditional Faroese food and learn about local food traditions. You can also spend time with our horses and learn about the critically endangered Faroese Horse and our work to conserve the breed.
If you are interested in wool, Dorthe can share her knowledge of the whole process from shearing to finished yarn.
For us, cultural exchange goes both ways. We enjoy spending time with our guests and learning about their culture, traditions, food and way of life, while welcoming them into our family life. -

Ayuda
We are looking for someone to help us with our horses and around their barn. The horses are privately owned and are not part of our farming business. Workawayers will not be doing any business-related work on the farm.
You will be helping alongside us with the horses and practical tasks in the barn. No previous experience is necessary, as we will do tasks together and show you how we do things. Along the way, you will learn about the Faroese Horse and our work to conserve this critically endangered native breed.
We expect around 20 hours of help per week and are flexible about how the hours are arranged, leaving plenty of free time to explore the Faroe Islands. -

Alojamiento
You will stay in the house next door with Signa's parents, Dorthe and Evald, where you will have your own private bedroom with a double bed. The bathroom, kitchen and living areas are shared.
All food is provided, and most of your meals will be in this house. Our two houses are right next to each other, and there is a lot of coming and going between the two homes. The whole family often gets together for dinner, and you will, of course, be very welcome to join us.
You are also welcome to use the kitchen and prepare your own meals or snacks when you prefer.
We hope you will feel at home and part of the family during your stay, while still having your own room and space to relax. -
Algo más...
Our farm is in the small village of Signabøur, which is a great base for exploring the Faroe Islands. Despite being in a quiet village, we are centrally located. Tórshavn, Vágar and Runavík are all approximately a 30-minute drive away.
A bus stop is close to the farm with free public transport to Tórshavn. Another bus stop is a little further away and connects to routes between other villages, making it possible to explore without having your own car.
Depending on our schedules and availability, there may also be opportunities to borrow a car occasionally or get a lift with someone from the family. In case you have your own car, we have plenty of room for parking.
The Faroe Islands are small, so many places can be reached on day trips. With plenty of free time outside the approximately 20-hour work week, you will have a good opportunity to go hiking, visit different villages and islands, and experience the Faroese landscape and culture. -
