Descripción
I’m a young native of Tamale, Ghana. Married to a different national, my wife and I set up a non- governmental & voluntary organization in order to support the disadvantaged and vulnerable children in Tamale. Our ethos is to care about every single child in our school, to make sure they are in a happy, learning environment and develop strong life skills for a brighter future.
The school opened in 2018 and our long term aim is to provide vocational skills related to arts and culture providing the children with important life skills and giving them greater job prospects and possibilities to move out of poverty. Our current focus is on ensuring the students have a good level of standard Primary education. Most of the children attending our school were previously not in education, or were disengaged from the Government schools. We provide a caring, person centered learning environment helping each child build in their confidence and skills. The school is completely volunteer led- with local volunteer teachers, and having volunteers from abroad is a great opportunity for our students to experience new ways of learning and engaging with others.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

The organization offers a unique experience, a place where you will make a real difference. We try to incorporate whatever skills and interests you have to bring, and shape your volunteer time around this.
We are in the process of visiting the students families to gather more information about the students home lives and what creative things they like to do in order to plan for future skills training and understand our students contexts. Volunteers have been part of these visits and prepare the summary reports. This allows for engagement with the parents as well as with the children. If it is of interest to you, we can also arrange for you to spend a few days in the local village and be hosted by one of the student families. You can experience how traditional life in Ghana/Africa can be, with the challenges of water shortage, limited electricity, and gathering of firewood. You will also be enriched with the communal village life- share local cuisine, learn to eat food with your hands, sit and relax in the evening fresh air under the Mango trees and learn some basic Dagbani words.Proyectos con niños

Ayuda
Help Required
The number 1 priority requirement we have of volunteers is that you have a passion and love for working with kids and young people.
The 2nd is that you are willing to work hard and with energy during your volunteer hours.
After this, we will work with you to create activities that both you and the students will love to do!
The school programme is split into 3 main areas:
Pre-School Education
Youth Skills Training
Arts & Culture.
Past volunteers have helped to teach English, Maths and Science topics; ran drama workshops with a final performance in-front of parents; started an Eco project; run a reading project and helped with organisational management support. Other type of activities you can be involved in may include playing soccer, caring for the kindergartens (singing and playing games with them); leading on creative drawing and arts projects and vocational skills training. Whatever your interest we are sure we can incorporate it into our school learning activities!
The school regularly has drumming and dance classes led by local volunteer teachers, and we hope you will enjoy the cultural exchange.Idiomas

Volunteers will be hosted by the C.E.O. You will have your own private room (modern hut- with fan and electricity) and share the living, kitchen and bathroom space with the host and any other volunteers at the time of your visit. Accommodation is free and volunteers are encouraged to take part in a cooking exchange so that we get to experience each others countries food.
Travel:
The accommodation is a 30mins motorcycle ride away from the school and volunteers are picked up and dropped off by the local volunteer teachers. We can look into alternative travel arrangements if you do not like to travel by motorbike- a motor taxi is an alternative possibility.
Tamale centre is a nice bustling local market town. You will enjoy wandering around the many food stalls, picking up your fruit and veg for your cooking. There are 3-4 supermarkets and a few bars to enjoy a relaxing cold drink.Un poco más de información
