The homestead is an emerging and unique part-time enterprise in the Peace River region close to the Rocky Mtn foothills of northwest Canada. The property is situated on the shores of Moberly Lake, in north-east BC. Proprietor Reg has lived in the Peace region since 1991, where he has operated an environmental, community development and land-use planning consultancy. Reg also enjoys cultural pursuits in music and international travel. He also created and led projects in support of a non-profit organization The Boreal Centre for Sustainability related to eco-friendly livelihood diversification and support for food, water and energy security.
With the help of extended family and youth workers from the community and First Nations over several years, the property now has three facilities including a rental guest cabin, office/guest house, and lakeshore principal dwelling to provide a range of guest accommodations. Efforts are being made to complete renovations including alternative-energy retrofits, interior design renovations featuring a lakeview music studio, a roof-top garden plus expanded production garden. I would love for you to share this experience in helping to realize this community eco-cultural project vision if you have some of the basic skills and interests to support our program.
The impressive surroundings and vibrant local economy creates a foundation for the facility which is situated midway between Vancouver, BC and Whitehorse, Yukon and a convenient base for Workaway travellers to enjoy a tranquil natural setting, amazing outdoor adventures, and unique northern rural and indigenous cultural experiences.
Plans are to start hosting a few short-stay tourist visitors, backpackers and friends starting in the early summer 2025 as my ability and time permits . The facility when fully operational, will have capacity to host both local visitors and international travellers as a unique short or extended stay visitor experience.
Reg's professional background in environmental consulting has focused on faith-centred sustainability planning with northern rural and First Nation's communities. This work and life experience is being transferred into this new creative and visionary endeavour at the Eco-Homestead to shape people's interests in cooperative intentional travel and learning about ecologically-sensitive living....not to mention, just simply a place for enjoying beautiful & tranquil surroundings with opportunities to share in music, food and conversation!Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

During the forthcoming season of operation in spring 2025, the placement opportunity is for a minimum of 2 weeks depending upon seasonal timing and needs. Compensation will be at the minimum BC hourly rate for all hours worked in a subcontractor capacity based on a prior mutually agreed service agreement.
A vehicle is essential for this remote community location. Self supporting private or shared accommodation is also available along with all utilities and wifi for the workday commitments.
Work on the property includes a range of tasks including but not limited to berry harvesting and processing, facility maintenance (interior/exterior painting, cleaning ), light construction and finishing, fencing and occasional house-sitting/pet care. Additional help may also be needed for supporting short term paid guests and to develop the Eco-Centre online resources, with product development, social marketing and promotional social events.
There are local opportunities to promote your own artistic endeavours, and perhaps offer short-course instruction on topics of your own interest or supporting other community learning activities as opportunities to enrich our shared experience together. This could be just the refuge get-away travel experience you need and connecting with cool people who share similar values and thrive on the idea of a northern remote living and learning experience.Idiomas

Solo or shared accommodation will be provided in either a rustic lakeshore (2B) guest cabin or a fully equipped 34 ft RV trailer along with limited broad-band wifi on the property. Additional nominal charges or work exchange are negotiable for participants seeking non-work day holiday travel accommodation. Workaway participants are required to prepare their own food. Use of recreational water equipment is also available (kayak, canoeing, windsurfing), fishing supplies, etc. at the traveller's own risk of use.

I need a minimum two week time commitment stay to have greatest mutual benefit and to support logistical arrangements. Extensions are possible for work exchange subject to a mutually satisfactory review. Some accommodations may be rented for short-term stays so there is possibility of other visitors which help may be needed for cleaning of rental units.
There are many special opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast and self-motivated individual who loves to explore, connect with local First Nations communities, and enjoy the northern rural country life. There are spectacular mountains to explore nearby, horse-back riding, water sports, hiking, photography, and winter sports are all very popular.
Numerous local cultural events and facilities can be found locally and around the south Peace region, hiking at the world famous Monkman Falls, mountain trekking or visiting local pioneer history/dinosaur museums, and annual music festivals and art/cultural events through the summer and fall season.
The summer weather can range from quite warm 30 C deg + in summer, to low 15 C+ in the colorful early autumn operational season. Due to weather conditions, winter operations are generally not available but subject to need as may be updated on the profile.Un poco más de información
