  We have a secluded property on 160 acres, six kilometres from the iconic town of Nimbin. We are an hour's drive from the fabulous East coast, and there are beautiful waterfalls and swimmings holes a short drive away. We are looking for honest, strong, handy people to help with building projects, some gardening/landscaping work and general cleaning/downsizing.

  We believe that we live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world and welcome travellers to come and enjoy our sanctuary and soak up the alternative lifestyle that Nimbin and surrounding areas are renowned for. The Byron coastline and Nightcap National parks are both glorious - and a bit over an hour's drive away. Our property is wild regenerating natural bush and John can take you for drives in the paddock basher (four wheel drive) to see some of the best views the area has to offer whilst we check on any of our cows that may have calved. We like to spend our down time hanging out on the veranda whilst enjoying one of John's famous spit roasts, some 'old fogy' tunes and a decent wine. We have an upstairs games room with pool and pingpong tables for those interested in small ball skills. There are plenty of opportunities to learn new skills, leave a meaningful footprint and to express your own creativity for those intrepid spirits who are willing to work hard and live joyously! We welcome new energy and respect for our retreat space and would prefer non-smokers!

  We live in a beautiful old five bedroom heritage farmhouse at the end of a private valley. After 35 years of loving labours we are finalising renovations and would appreciate some help with finishing work (sanding, painting ect) and possibly outdoor paving duties. We also have quite a meandering/steep garden, creek side plantings so help with brushcutting, mulching and general gardening and landscaping would be great. If it is too hot for outdoor work we are working on a major downsize clean out of the carport/garage. You will need to be of strong body and mind as this is farm life with all the usual dust, spiders, vermin and wildlife to contend with as you work hard.
  We expect (all genders!) to help with general house cleaning duties and perhaps window cleaning (we have walls of glass!) and a house rule is 'the cook doesn't do the washing up!'. We are happy to open up our kitchen to share some culinary delights from around the world. There is always seasonable herbs and greens to pick from our own garden.
  Heather may not be around for some stays as she works intermittently overseas.
  Our work schedule is flexible around our own working hours, the weather and what else is happening for each of us. We ask that you help 5 hours a day / 25 hours a week, and that you be responsible for tracking your hours and letting us know when you've had enough for the day/week or when you want to do more. We want a minimum one week commitment (flexibility with work schedule) so you can also enjoy some adventures in the surrounding areas. It would be appreciated if you could follow basic instructions and then work without supervision. As it is coming into the hot and humid season, early morning and late afternoon may be the best times to work.

  We have three lovely bedrooms downstairs with separate entry, bush views, outdoor seating and comfortable double beds. There are no curtains and no neighbours but expect to be seen by the wallabies! There is a small downstairs bathroom and toilet for guests to share. We would enjoy meals together upstairs often on the veranda or indoors by the wood burning heater in winter. Wake up to the native birds and watch wallabies and their babies frolic outside your glass bedroom doors. There are plenty of chill-out spaces on the big verandahs or garden seating to retreat to. As we live at the end of a valley that rises steeply onto the escarpment of the Nimbin Rocks, internet and phone coverage can be slow- depending on your service provider. There is an abundance of wild life, birds, bugs, spiders (sometimes snakes), goannas and wallabies in our bush living lifestyle- so those with any bug/animal phobias would definitely be challenged! We are meat eaters but can welcome tolerant vegetarians who can also prepare some of their own meals.

  There are plenty of things to do in and within an hour of Nimbin: Live music, cool cafes, local markets, glorious East coast beaches and rivers, bushwalks, waterfalls, swimming holes and fishing to name a few. Nimbin is 3/4 hour walk away from us and there is no bus service to our property. Bus connections run from the village of Nimbin including round trips to Byron Bay but there is no night services. For those wanting evening outings and extended adventures in the forest and beaches - a car will be needed. We offer a fabulous retreat space for those wanting and able to enjoy more independent adventures into the forests, beaches and flamboyant culture of Northern NSW. For responsible, licensed drivers, an old 4 WD vehicle may possibly be available with diesel costs the guests' responsibility. Access to this vehicle will need to be negotiated with John and is not guaranteed.
