My name is Cole and I'm an American living in the lovely Czech countryside. My home is a small, renovated cottage with all the facilities and luxuries of a full-sized home. I also have a relatively spacious backyard/garden area with various fruit trees, a small personal gym, and plenty of space to relax. I live here with my 7-year-old rescue dog Ariel and my 2-year-old rescue cat Nox. There is so much to do in this area, including various castles, ruins, and cultural sites located within driving/cycling distance as well as plenty of peaceful nature spots, places to swim, workout, go shopping, etc. The cottage sits at the edge of a small village in the Czech highlands region, but it's still only a short trip to local grocery stores and even two larger towns with all the entertainment you can think of (movie theaters, theater, sports facilities, shopping, etc.). You're going to love it here!

Now, a bit more about the pets. Ariel is 7 years old and she's a rescue dog from Portugal. She is a mix between a English Pointer and an English Setter, meaning she is an energy-filled hunting dog. I do not use her for hunting, but she still loves to go on walks and get all of her energy out. She's very playful, incredibly affectionate (lots of hugs, kisses), and loves to be pet.

Nox is 2 years old, and he's just your typical tabby cat. He is very easy-going and requires basically zero care. He likes to go out at various times in the night and throughout the day to hunt for mice and explore. Otherwise, he just sleeps in the sun and comes over for a cuddle every once in a while.

Experience true Czech village life. See what it's like to live in the peaceful countryside during the summer, enjoying fruits from the trees, swimming in local ponds, hiking in the forests, etc. If you want larger cultural experiences, the regional capital of Jihlava is only 20 minutes away by car. There are also multiple castles and medieval towns pretty much everywhere here.

I am looking for someone to watch my dog and cat for 1-2 weeks while I am away. Ariel (dog) requires 2x 1-hour walks each day, while Nox (cat) doesn't require any special care. Because I live in the countryside, the dog walks happen right outside the front door of the cottage, where you can walk through the forests and farm paths.

Otherwise, the pets need standard care. They need to be fed, given fresh water, and some cuddles. Ariel likes to play with her many toys in the yard, otherwise she just sleeps and rests between walks. Nox pretty much just does his own thing, so aside from periodically letting him in and out of the cottage, he only needs to be fed and cuddled sometimes too.

And that's all I need. Someone to stay here with the animals, make sure they're fed and happy, and take Ariel on her walks. I don't need any other work done around the house, no yardwork, no building projects... nothing. Aside from the few hours a day for the walks and other small things (feeding, cuddling), you can spend the rest of the time doing whatever you want. Go swimming, cycling, hiking, exploring... sleep all day, read a book under one of my trees, workout in my small home gym... watch Netflix or whatever else you want. Just as long as the pets are taken care of :)

Because I will be gone while you are pet sitting, we will mostly be able to have a language exchange while I'm showing you my home and when I get back. Otherwise, you can speak to the neighbors (if they are here), but they are older and only speak Czech (so, good if you're trying to learn Czech).

    Alojamiento

You will stay in my small cottage at the edge of a small village. The cottage is about 45 square meters, with two floors (upstairs bedroom, downstairs kitchen, living room, shower, etc.). The cottage comfortably houses 1-2 people (one large bed + couch with pull-out bed), perfect for solo travellers or couples. The cottage also has all facilities you could need: unlimited fast WiFi, hot-water shower, standard-flush toilet, kitchen (with a fridge, microwave oven, stove top, etc.), TV (connect to the TV via my HDMI cable), etc. Basically, the cottage is an ordinary home, albeit small.

The cottage is the second-to-last cottage at the end of a small village. The neighbors on either side are older couples who often only come for the weekends or for a few hours in the evening when the weather's nice. The cottage also has a relatively large back yard, with 10 different fruit trees, green grass, plenty of space for yoga, working out, hammocks, tents, or whatever else you want to do outside. I also have a small shed with a small workout room (dumbbells, bar, bench, pull-up bar, etc.). There's also a fire pit in the yard, with plenty of already prepared wood, so you can have a grill around the fire if you'd like.

As for food, I am open to discussing how this will work. I myself am a past Workawayer, so I understand how this usually works. However, in my case, I only need someone to watch my pets and take my dog on 2x 1-hour walks each day. And in return, you get an entire (small) home with a big backyard garden all to yourself, with no extra work, chores, or building jobs required. You get free WiFi, you can use my two bikes, I can leave you my car if you want, you can use my small gym, or simply watch Netflix all day, all for essentially 2 hours of work (and the "work" is to simply take a peaceful walk through the lovely countryside twice per day, and then sometimes play with the animals, cuddle them, etc.).

All things considered, the ideal arrangement for me would be that you simply pay for and bring your own food (there is also a store only 2-km away with food and fresh fruits, vegetables, etc. for purchase). If this doesn't work for you, I am open to discussing giving you some money for shopping, but personally I think the trade is a fair one (like I said, I've done Workaway before, and I know sometimes you're expected to work 5 hours a day and only eat when the host says it's time to eat, etc. and sometimes you only have a small room, no internet, no hot water, etc. And here, you get all of those things for free).

  • Algo más...

    Algo más...

I mentioned it already, but I can lend you my car while I am away. It is a manual (stick shift). Obviously, you would need to have a valid license and be a responsible driver. But I also have two bikes you can borrow. And the next town over (only 2 km away) has everything you could need: three grocery stores, tennis courts, an outdoor workout area, a free swimming reservoir, etc. You can easily cycle there in 10-15 minutes.

As for "house rules", I don't really have anything specific. Of course, there's the obvious stuff, like to smoking in the house, no parties (the village quiet time is 10 pm, same as in any city), don't have a bunch of people over. Just common sense stuff.

If you have pets, we would need to discuss in advance what kind of pets and their behavior with other cats and dogs. My dog is very friendly and playful, but she can be sometimes scared of bigger dogs (dominant, aggressive dogs). And I'm not quite sure how my cat would handle it if another cat were to come here. So... dogs are OK as long as they're friendly to my dog and cat, and I would say probably no cats (you never know how two cats are going to react to one another).
