We are a small economic association that runs a Meteorite museum.
The history ...
In the 1930’s scientists had noticed that these unique stones couldn’t be found at any other site than here. They thought that a big earthquake had occurred, but Maurits Lindström proved that this was not the case. Everything came from the strike by the meteorite that crushed in to the ocean which at this time was located on the southern half of the earth. The history of geology tells us how mountains moved and why we today have Sweden on in the north part of Tellus.
Thanks to the drillings in the crater area, they had the chance to prove that this was created by a meteorite. Because the strike was in the ocean, the impact on the surrounding nature is still very clear both here and in other parts of Jämtland. A lot of meteorites have hit the ground and not the ocean which have made all traces disappear in the heat that followed. Visible signs are therefore small. The Lockne Crater is thought of as one of the best preserved in the world, and this makes geologists from the entire world come and visit. They have also found out that the Lockne Crater and the area of Mars are similar.
