Our Eco Village farm was established four years ago, in the village of Tamil Nadu. From the very beginning it has been an organic, semi-permaculture system that provides safe, nutritious food whilst minimising any environmental degradation and ecological harm brought about by agricultural activity. In many cases, we do our very best to regenerate the on-farm ecology and ecosystems and recently this hard work has been returned by large amounts of creatures, large and small, helping our soils replenish and crops thrive.
The Eco Village is in the early stages of becoming a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) working with local farmers to improve livelihood stability and prosperity, food security and regenerative farming systems, whilst at the same time, working closely in the local community to improve employment opportunities, food security with a focus on nutrition and continuing empowering the local community to make the changes they want to see for themselves and their village. We must stress, this is the very beginning of Eco Village, especially as an operating NGO, so our facilities and resources are still being constructed and flowing in.
At this time we are welcoming volunteers, especially individuals, groups and families that would like to experience a long-term stay here. There is much to do, as always and lots of fun to be had.
Since it begun
Since then we have planted many crops. Millet is our main staple grain and through the permaculture design, we produce a wide variety of organic fruit, vegetables and pulses. When construction work gets closer to being finished, we will spend greater time farming, but until then, we need all the help we can get, as one or two sets of hands cannot keep up with all the work! We hope volunteers feel at home on the farm and can be flexible with their time, averaging at 5 hours per day, with some longer and shorter days. There are many attractions in and around the local village and available transport to towns and cities, such as Bangalore. The farm is situated close the a forest that supports the interconnected lakes that surround the village. The scenery is quite idyllic and you are never too far from a historic temple or ruins that can make for a curious trip out. Village has full of different animals, from buffalo and cows, to goats, chickens and dogs and we have many friends that we visit or are visited by often.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Permaculture design and organic/natural farming, natural building (cob, rammed earth, earth-bag house), traditional cuisine cooking, compost making, natural fertiliser making and seed cultivation.
Walking through old forests and collecting fruits, helping the farm integrate on-farm production units to enable greater village employment through cooperative means. Soap making, mingling with local families, friends and children. Helping teach village children your own skills, especially English Language and ITC.
We are not a formal organisation yet, so we cannot provide any recognisable certificates, nor a set volunteer programme, but we will do all we can to make sure you are informed, comfortable, happy and safe at the farm, learning as we work so that we all have a great time.
Our accommodation is rough and ready at the moment, but we run through all of this via a personal email, so if you are interested, or just want to hear more, send us a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We look forward to meeting you all!Ayuda
The tasks that are involved are flexible and change with the needs of the farm and organisation at the time, but our core activities include crop care, tree planting, seed cultivation and general farm duties, (mulching, raised beds makeing , weeding , digging hole for saplings ,new seed sawing ) (construction collecting stones , collecting sand , collecting gravels, mud mixing, digging, ) which can involve caring for the on-farm animals. Depending on your preference and ability, we ask volunteers to help with construction work. We are currently creating our building/facilities and some of the work includes; using waste material to create a bathroom, tiling the farmhouse building a small nursery and , butterfly garden and a kitchen garden. Our priority at the moment is to finish the farmhouse which is a natural build (using rammed mud, recycled wood and materials we get donated), to build an outside shed, create a meditation space and plant more trees. No experience is necessary, but a commitment to working in harmony with nature is a helpful requirement.
